I saw JJ and Mofro 16ish years ago, in a little hole in the wall dive, in SC. It was 12° hotter than the LITERAL hinges of hell in that place, I was 6 months pregnant, had never before (nor have I since) been so sick in my life. In fact, I think I eventually wound up in the hospital the next day. I was so weak that I couldn't even stand but ill be damned if I was going to miss seeing Mofro! JJ sent one of his people out to grab me and my chair and my husband; he put us right up front so I could sit down but still see the show. I couldn't dance but I sure did cry the whole time. Big fat ugly happy tears just rolled down my face with every song. His soul tohches me in places no hands can reach.

Wow… this hits like a freight train. Certainly one of the most powerful solo performances ever… stunning! One year later: I have added this to my acoustic cover show… having been a hard drinker for decades, I can sing it with conviction. Singing it in front of an audience is difficult and painful, yet easy and healing at the same time…? Guess I’m really singing it for myself, and not the audience… great song JJ!

This song runs deeper then I can ever put in words. You see I lost my little girl 4 years ago in a fatal car accident one month before she turned 18. She was working at the Monto Rio beach, on the Russian River. She died on Moscow Rd which runs along the river. That river was her life. She had gone out that day to cash her paycheck and never made it back. We lived in an old three story house made into apartments overlooking the Russian River and spent every free moment on or in it. The River has claimed many life's over the years. When I hear him sing this song with all of the passion in his voice it reminds me of her passion for life. She was (is) an old soul with the all the love and kindness one could possibly have, enough to fill the hearts of a whole village and then some. She was truly our angel on loan. Thank you for your music and for the depth of your passion that ,comes straight for your soul. I am from Napa Valley CA and I wished that I had known of you when you preformed here at Bottle Rock I'd have loved for her to have seen you, for us to have seen you.

Dearest Cathy, I am so sorry for your loss! But I must admit,it do find strength in your words of your daughter. I discovered this song approximately one year ago when I learned that my son would have his eighth open heart surgery. I dreaded every day I've been given until now, where by the grace of God he had a successful procedure. I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter. I hope that every day you have coming, you find strength in not only this song, but in everything that comes your way. God bless you my sister!

My roommate used to listen to this song everyday. I like this song and JJ is one of my favorites but everyday this sad song and JJ's voice would fill our house. I never understood why she loved this song so much until she died of alcoholism. Now it has a whole new meaning to me and what she was secretly hiding from the world. I play it , not everyday but a lot and I know somehow, someway she's next to me singing along like she used to. ❤

Y’all should definitely check out the official video. He stares into the camera when singing the most painful lyrics, and his eyes pierce your soul as they reveal the deep sadness he’s been through. If you’ve seen him perform live, you’ll probably know through his stories that his lyrics come straight from his life experience and from his heart. He’s an incredibly sensitive and honest artist.

😭Great song. 💝 This song touches me so deeply. These lyrics hit me so hard “….trying to find purpose, trying to see meaning, trying to make sense of this nonsense I call my life” and “see them all work and play, there on the other bank, warm in their houses, while I face my cold alone”. I’m not a drinker and I definitely don’t do drugs but I do feel the aloneness & hopelessness this song conveys. 😭😫

One of the simplest, pure , raw examples of music at it's very best. This song awes me how , with just one sentence it echos completely through my entire being , tearing open parts of my emotions that have been closed for so long. And yet it's pureness of word and heart somehow heals me. . May you be blessed and please continue to share your music . @@irishmickhead1 yes I have fruitlessly tried finding a way out. Unfortunately due to the fact that I'm on SSDI and 56yrs old the waiting list on every apartment list I'm signed up on for (9) is 4yrs long. I don't wish this on anyone.

u can feel.his emotions running through you. we all have a "river" that we go to. I go camping, to see the springs and watch the river flowing outward, it brings me to a place that I can get by and get through, I forget everything, and it brings me back, it literally saves me from myself
