What the f...? When I was a child, we had black mold at home. The reason we could not get rid of it is a) black mold is incredibly resilient b) we were poor. How can a billionnaire be so uncaring about her own home?! Maybe the rresident evil mold is truly in control, would explain a lot.
Same here, but I have the feeling that those excuses were a bit stupid. Maybe the price of mold cleaner came down since I was a child but in my experience it doesn't seem significantly more expensive than other cleaning products. If you can afford dish soap you can probably afford mold cleaner. And the mold itself is not really resilient, it's just that you probably won't fully get rid of the discoloration with nothing but cleaning products. That's probably why people are so stupid about mold, they know that making it look clean again requires them to repaint the wall which is too expensive and high effort, so they give up completely, when all it takes to make the room safe to inhabit is to spray the mold with some stuff every now and then.
@NeiZaMo It's not just about buying a spray. Sometimes, to truly rid yourself of it, you have do plumbing, roofing and wall work, gutting, cleaning and then refitting the whole house. That costs more than soap, but go off, I guess.
Like I said, I'm speaking from personal experience here, I was forced to sleep in moldy bedrooms for most of my childhood until I was old enough to buy my own cleaning supplies and fix the issue myself. And in my experience most mold issues I encountered up to now are as simple to resolve as spraying them with some cleaner every couple months. Of course that might be because flats here in Germany are just better maintained on average, maybe because landlords in Germany have to pay for the hotel their tenants stay in when their flat becomes uninhabitable due to stuff like burst pipes.

It's been a while since I've played Wolfenstein: The New Order (great game, btw), but I remember that the "uber concrete" that the Nazis were using to build everything had a tendency to break down and attract mold. Yo, I have black mould in my shitty overpriced Sydney apartment and it is a NIGHTMARE to clean. But my god, it’s not like she can’t afford to have professionals come in and fix it.
Some super rich ppl just live like poor people inside their mansions... My aunt cleaned out a hoarder home of a widowed woman whose husband was some super famous sailor who traveled the world with his wife before he died... This woman was then living in her mansion like a mountain goat, climbing over her stuff that was piled almost to the roof... She slept on like a towel on the floor because all the bedrooms were totally blocked off... A bunch of luxury items were basically rotting... Sometimes they'd find boxes of money buried places, and one time my aunt had to go on a mission with like a map crawling over things to go retrieve a box they knew of which had a ton of money in it that the woman needed... And like, my aunt got trusted with transporting certain things because it was like, so valuable that they didn't wanna rely on too many random ppl that couldn't be totally trusted... By the end of it I think the job took like 6 weeks or so iirc and this woman tipped my aunt tens of thousands of dollars as well as a free car... So yeah, inside some of those big fancy mansions are super rich ppl who live like homeless people in there... At least until they eventually hire ppl to solve their issues they got going on...

Yep. Decades ago I was a satellite installer, the big ones, not the direct tv style, and I was amazed at the shape and condition of some the houses I went into. One place was even the huge home of two doctors, one of which was a contagious disease specialist. Humans will be humans, and money does not buy class or cleanliness.
As someone who has had mould in their flat. Absolutely insane. Not difficult to remove by hand and this is probably down to her never ventilating the place properly.

I could do something abouy the moldy old silicone in the shower, but once mold in the toilet, it will *always* come back ... unless you get a new toilet bowl
I saw that comparison picture, and the first thing I thought was that it was wallpaper with asian styled ink patterns of trees and clouds, you can literally see the hills at the bottom. The colour of the wallpaper is reminiscing of that golden ish style of that is used for background with those aesthetics. I live in northern England and I can say with certainty that black mold is common and it is dangerous in high amounts. It usually gathers around windows and if left will spread, but most people do something about it. I did however live in a house last year where the landlord was awful and just painted over the mold. This didn't work, obviously, but I had no idea why I was getting sick until I found a lot of it. It is bad, but usually causes harm because people don't know it is there. I have no clue how someone could have mold like that in the open in such high quantities and not see it as a problem, and also not get sick from it. It seriously looks like black mold.... but it can't be... right?

The only thing that makes me think it's not black mold, but rather an atrocious wallpaper design seen from afar, is the seemingly pristine status of the fireplace. BUT...since she's a hateful bigot, who seems to assume the worst of anyone who isn't in her coven of witches...I'm going to agree with the consensus that it's black mold and it has slowly taken over her brain. What should the fireplace look like if it's never been used? For all we know it's covered in dust you can only see up close. My family hasn't touched our fireplace in 20 years, and you wouldn't be able to tell. It just sits in the wall lol. Never used, never cleaned. I'm sure it has dust on it.
I lived in a slum apartment with a landlord that actively forbid the tenants to do any upkeep on the property for eleven years, the black mold was not as bad as it is in JKR's pics, but it was still bad enough to do me permanant lung damage. So, you know, we can all live in hope.

I am an interior designer and imho that is a Japanese hand painted wall finish which covers entire walls top to bottom. The design is always subtle and uses many layers of expensive paints including "gold" paint. It appears she was ripped off in the person that did the hand painting and wall redesigns, they clearly have very little knowledge, know how or skills in this art.
mycotoxins is typically a saturation thing, your body can handle it to a point, like say urbexing thru a mold infested building is prob fine if you hurry past the moldy parts and don't do it too often. It's not like a biological landmine if you encounter it, but being in proximity of it means you are exposed and inhaling it. If you become overexposed it'll degrade your immune system so whatever else comes along is the thing that gets you. You see black mold anywhere you live you need to address it sooner rather than later as it's ever increasingly lethal for you to be around. I Think unfortunately that is just tasteless wallpaper tho, the pattern it grows doesn't scream black mold to me, looks like questionable artwork of trees and stuff.
Literally look-up abstract black and white water color art. It looks the same as black mold. JKR just selected the black mold style wallpaper by accident. Nobody told her how bad it looked, because they are so high off their own supply. This is the reality I choose to believe.
Yeah, I think you're right about it. As much as I would like to believe that she's a bigot because of mycotoxins and not because she already had that capacity within her, I don't think it's the case. Ugh, I wish it was black mold, but its not. Its an aged look, weathered wallpaper. Kind of like a patina look. I've seen similar in mansions I've done work in. Black mold to that degree would be caused by leaks, and leaks wouldn't be that wide and uniform, unless its literally raining in her house.
Doesn't she live in like a medieval castle. I mean seriously it may not at all work like an ordinary house. That's why I think it's much more likely that it's actually black mold. That and the fact that she apparently took the picture down in a hurry.
@@angelainamarie9656 logical reasoning dude. If it’s a castle, it has stone walls. If its stones a leak wouldn’t be behind me the wall creating that type of mold pattern. Even in castles, wooden framed walls are more likely to create room partitions. To create a medieval look, you’d use worn patina’d wallpapers. You can find tons of similar ones online. I don’t they’ve just ignored a leak of that size this long. There would be a pool on the ground.

It was not built by modern people with modern problems in mind and, it's definitely warm enough in England to grow mold. In the summer which I don't know if you noticed but it's currently the summer. I think it's perfectly reasonable to assume that that's mold because like a lot of rich people she probably lives like some sort of wild animal inside her den. Having a lot of money doesn't mean a person is saying or you know keeps themself like a normal person I expect she is slowly disintegrating like a lot of super wealthy people who isolate themselves. It's entirely reasonable to expect that she doesn't clean her house on the regular. Her f***** in the head mental state is my clue as to why someone as deranged as her might be cheerily watching mold climb up her walls and not even realize what that was.
Black mold killing you was a myth, it has been disproven since. Currently there is no link between black mold and any serious health issues, other than allergic reactions. I have seen it a few times, in older european houses with their thick walls that don't support air circulation well, you have to regularly air out the house or mold is all but guaranteed. I imagine it must be much worse in a place where it rains more frequently like UK. The "cracked walls" also strongly look like to me as moldy wallpaper that gets wet from humidity and starts to slide off and crinkle. She is still weird if that is all mold, she of all people has the money to quickly deal with it. Personally I take mold like that more as a sign of total self-neglect.

I really wanted it to be black mold, but let's be honest with ourselves when looking at the fireplace pic. Its hard to tell if yhe wall actually hasn't changed colour due to JK not understanding what white balance is. In one picture with lots of natural light the wall appears white, but is probably some kind of fancy off white, and in the rest it appears much warmer, almost yellow. Either it's lighting, or she's had the colour changed. Then in the fireplace pic, idk how others aren't distinctly seeing an illustration of trees.

I grew up in a house with balck mould. It gave me athsma for a while, sure. But after 3 years moved out its like I was never there. (Unless it gave me autism or the woke mind virus 😳😳😳)

In Britain, household mold is ridiculously common. It is usually black in color, but not all of it is the 'toxic black mold' (stachybotrys), which is more common in the States it seems (I've lived in both countries!). It isn't 'behind the walls' here, because our walls are made differently. We rarely have hollow walls with drywall. We often just have one wall, made of brick, stone, etc. Dampness can actually 'rise' through these materials, and that's a big part of why our houses are like this. Also, we have very thin windows and no central air con/heat, so we have max water condensation with zero air circulation. It's gross! I feel pretty sick in many houses here, but most people seem to just live with it...
