One thing I found out and I don't know if this is true but I think it might be is that martial arts have fighting techniques and then they have techniques to use the fighting techniques an MMA might have the fire techniques but they don't have the techniques to use the fighting techniques as well as they could you should look up the Martian RU-vidr Adam Chan

Basically what I'm saying is there a ways to do things where you don't have to be really big and muscly you have to be physically fit but not like MMA people and Adam Chan teaches techniques so you don't have to rely on brute Force

if they are doing MMA rules, then it's MMA vs MMA. If 1 TKD student and 1 ballet dancer use the unified rules, they are both MMA. Just like if an MMA fighter boxes Anthony Joshua, that's boxing.

These are both great examples of something you dont see enough of. Its something my instructor drilled into all of his fighters. Its the ability to throw a punch without any other muscles even twitching. The true untelegraphed strike. The second fight was an excellent example of that. Having the training to allow the fist to initiate the movement for the strike. Gave me chills seeing these again. True fighters will know exactly what im talking about here.

Humans are weird. We naturally mirror each other in communication. Bas Rutten once noted it and said if you kick a guy, they try to kick you. I remembered this once in a fight. I came from a BJJ/wrestling background, and was Fighting a good striker. I needed to get him down in the last round, so I threw a high kick, thinking he would probably mirror it. He threw a high kick back, but I was already shooting in in him, because that's the reaction I expected. I got him down, got mount, felt him deflate, it was the third round and he hadn't gotten back up every time I took him down, and punched him like 100x in the face from Mount

I would say JKD is conceptually MMA, but techniques taught in JKD come from Wing Chun Fundamentals (of course with other stuff as well) and “generally” MMA uses Muay Thai and BJJ (with boxing and wrestling) as the main training systems. So the JKD guy just has different fundamentals IMO

There's a reason alot of the best MMA fighters use stuff from JKD. GSP and Anderson Silva have talked about using techniques from JKD, Jon Jones does, Conor McGregor does. And you'd be surprised how many UFC fighters fight dominant hand forward! GSP is a left handed orthadox and called that his secret weapon, Anderson Silva is a right handed southpaw, Jon Jones is a left handed orthadox, Nick and Nate Diaz are right handed, Dustin Poirier is right handed, Lyoto Machida is right handed, Colby Covington is right handed. And Cyril Gane is also right handed, so I was so interested to see him vs Jon Jones; as they both usually fight dominant hand forward...but that didn't last long lol

Great comment, and so glad to finally see some of the more generic "BJJ wins all" guys finally getting silenced and seeing more of the traditional martial arts finally rearing their heads again in combat sports. Are you referring to JKD as a concept or Inosanto's systemized JKD that tries to preserve Bruce Lee's fighting style? JKD taken as a concept will vary from person to person. What worked for Bruce Lee may not be the best for you. Screaming like a cat worked for Bruce, but it may not work for you. I wouldn't say the jkd guy fights hands down. He had them at his chest 90% of the time, and I believe this is the most effective. Many mma fighers use this position too. Advantages: your arms are in the perfect position for punching, so you can throw very fast and with max power. Your arms are in a bouncy angle that makes it so you can very quickly lift them up to block, rather than being stiff and immovable on your face which also blocks vision.

The hands down routine seems to be an effective way to distract from his footwork. There are times when he’s got his lead foot back with his trailing foot close behind (like an incomplete shuffle) ……. Kind of leaning too far forward. It works for him, but it could get exploited. His fight IQ is great and pressure is good. Definitely has some power in his strikes.

So many years ago I entered a longsword tournament and I kept getting caught on my outside. Its only towards the end of the bout that realised he's a lefty and fighting left over right as opposed to the more common right over left. After this point I started training more with the other grip and and it could be used to sometimes catch people off guard in sparring. The reason I mention this is because if I ever come across a lefty I tend to mirror them intentionally because they are generally more used to fighting right handed people. So quite often their game is designed around that.

This lead/cross hit he is using is tricky. It gets more interesting when you notice the small leap forward he does while throwing the lead hit. I noticed it because I do the same sometimes while kickboxing because of my karate shotokan background (the name of the move is kizame zuki). The momentum of the leap increases the power of the straight lead hit enough which might suprisingly KO someone. Of course the traditional move kizame zuki is lame, but if we adapt it to be more conservative it becomes useful.

Since I was new in those days I would naturally get destroyed. I wasn't physically strong nor athletic in those years. As time went on, I developed my own thing thru trial and error. In those years PKA was a thing. I would emulate those guys. After army basic training, I joined a dojo that did Okinawan karate and boxing. It was there I learned to have a fight IQ. It also helped that members of that dojo were filled with PKA veterans and active boxers learning traditional Okinawan Karate. This was in the late 1980s to early 1990s. JKD has basics, but is more of an approach to fighting - it is supposed to be able to morph/adapt. What started out as Lee Jun Fan had to change - boxers, and wrestlers always presented too many problems. Nowadays JKD has adapted to try and find solutions, if possible. That was the original intention. I don't think of JKD so much of a ' type, or style ' , it changes, the same way MMA has, and does. In the early years, Lee Jun Fan/JKD had a lot of holes in the system. Real, full contact matches with experienced fighters from boxing, and wrestling ( which were rare ) was what it needed.

@jovanleon7
@jovanleon7 7 месяцев назад
Many, many have missed the true JKD essence because of the "concept" statement Bruce made. The truth is, to really understand what JKD is you must first understand why it's created by Bruce Lee. It started after the fight with Wong Jack Man that lasted way too long than Bruce would've anticipated, though it's actually just under 3 minutes which is actually not that long by pro combat sports standard, but for Bruce, a good fighter should be able to end a fight in seconds, not minutes, hence his journey to crystallize various martial arts and fighting techniques into what's known to be Jeet Kune Do began. So no, JKD is NOT just some concept of whatever works in a fight or just essentially mma 😂 JKD is a crystallization of whatever works to end a fight as fast as possible, meaning whatever is the most effective and efficient techniques to end a fight, THAT'S JKD. That's why you can't say that it's "different for everyone", or "just use whatever works for you and that's your own JKD", "JKD is just MMA" or "JKD keeps evolving" 😂 I mean, sure, if you manage to make the techniques and ways that Bruce had crystallized from his various findings in JKD even more efficient and effective or maybe you invented or found new/other techniques that work better to end a fight than what Bruce found then yeah, that would be JKD, but as of today, I have never seen someone that claims that he has evolved JKD has actually don that and personally I myself haven't found many better techniques or ways better than Bruce's, though there are some. That's why Dan Inisanto has done a great disservice to JKD by adding many flowery techniques he found from Silat or Panantukan or whatever, hence complicating JKD which in turn made it no longer JKD. In the previous video, the JKD guy didn't really embody true JKD but here he really showed real improvements. Massive props to him!

@@jovanleon7 That's a whole lotta words, man. And, imo, none of them matter. The truth is, JKD Concepts guys like Matt Thornton and Straight Blast Gym have a proven record of success in combat sports like kickboxing and mma going back to (at least) the early 2000s. To see one of them doing well in a venue like this is not surprising. However, other forms of JKD do not have such a record of success. Therefor to see one of them doing well in a venue like this IS surprising. Regardless, whether one or the other is more true to Lee's vision is meaningless. All that matters is which is more effective. And without a doubt, the concepts guys are more effective. And that's because ultimately how you train is more important than the individual techniques. Because training properly weeds out ineffective techniques and promotes techniques that work. And the best way to train is for sports combat.
@jovanleon7
@jovanleon7 7 месяцев назад
@@judosailor610 sure, you are indeed correct. JKD concept guys have achieved massive success and indeed their professional focused training plays a huge role in that. But imo, the true JKD, the JFJKD, is actually far better and more effective, it's just people are not yet convinced on applying it to the fullest of its extent. JFJKD is the most simplest, most direct, it's about daily decrease and not daily increase, meaning instead of adding more and more techniques and movements you minimize everything to the absolute core and focus to practice them to reduce your reaction time and execution time of each technique and movement until you become almost super human. We'll just have to wait and see if there ever will be someone that perfectly embodies JFJKD emerge from the shadows.

No. These are not JKD. The guys are obviously sanda prtactitioners coming from a sport school with 20+ years of practice. Not a single JKD movement. It is habitual in China to hire a professional to represent your school in a match just to make advertisement. They pay 50 000 yuan+ for a match.

You never find Jeet Kune Do like this. That's why I left Wing Chun decades ago. Steve Lee Swift spoiled it for me. I didn't look up every Wing Chun Sifu in the world, but after being at Steve's Chicago school in the early 80s with all the students he had that could actually use it...well I never found Wing Chun after that that looked like that or worked. I admit that there are plenty, but I have never found RU-vid videos showing any Wing Chun fighters who could effectively use Wing Chun without changing it like Steve, Simon Lau and Wai Po could. I admit that all his students that could use it were beyond the 3rd stage in the 18 month 3 stage wall bag process, but I still have never come across any RU-vid videos of Wing Chunners who can use it like Steve, Simon and Wai Po could, without adding boxing footwork and the boxing bobbing and weaving. Though Simon, Wai Po and Steve all hide it in Wing Chun videos of them ha ha. Well you see the real Wing Chun they use with all the palms, elbows and kicks to the chest in some of Steve's old DVDs like Mind of the Wing Chun Fighter 1 - 3 and extreme Wing Chun, but other than that I've never found that kind of Wing Chun outside of his early 1980s Chicago school. I mean it's always the guy who only knows the straight blast, can't use the traditional Wing Chun kicks palms or elbows, and doesn't know the bong sau's only a blink of the eye. Or it's someone bobbing and weaving or doing MMA, but calling it Wing Chun. I know they exist though somewhere out there.

Bruce Lee's JKD is not just about taking what works, it's about self defense (hunter/prey) instead of sport (domination). A linear fast attack neutralizes without getting tangled in a clinch or on the ground, and then you can run. Attackers just need to be interrupted because they don't want a fight. It is better than most patterns you see in MMA, but it doesn't work in sports because with no element of surprise lunging, linear attacks will be weathered or countered.
