That's my Prius that Matt is showcasing and I will say that the system he installed is incredible - what a difference. The best part is the sound, including the subwoofer does not over-power the environment of the car, or the ears of any passenger - just pure, clean beautifully EQd music. Thanks Matt!

Did you still retain the factory volume control from your steering wheel?

@@stayonpoint21 I am wondering why NO ONE will answer that question. Like is it really that hard to answer? I also went to audio control and asked the same question about the dm810 and I got no answer. SMH.

@@joseluisruiz3789 The Audison Prima 8.9, f8.9, and 4.9 will retain everything. You can get a harness from them that plugs into the back of your stock deck, that powers and takes control of your whole system, with out having to even run new speaker wires to your stock or after market speakers, that are in the stock locations. Up to 9 channels too, and a RCA & digital output for a sub or another main amp. I really wish JL would have done this!! Plus they have a few remotes that control way more than than the JL remote. You give it power, ground, and plug the harness into the stock deck, and done.

Before we make a sales pitch to the customer, they get educated on why a DSP is the most important starting point while upgrading an OEM sound system. We simply wont move forward if we do not start with the Fix at minimum.

I'm curious about what the FiX does on the Loudness compensation filters. For those who don't know, this is a volume dependent EQ (usually set around 80 Hz and 10 kHz) which compensates the lack of bass/treble that we feel at low volume levels (higher boost at low levels than high levels). If you make the FiX calibration at 3/4 of the volume, the Loudness should already be disabled. I guess, if the FiX doesn't monitor other volume levels during the calibration process, the Loudness is maintained - which can be a good thing in most cases.

Very informative video. You've really explained in detail some of the concerns I have with my install. I recently sold my 2011 F150 that had Focal ISS570 5x7 components in the front and Infinity Kappa coaxials for rear fill all Driven by a Hifonincs Brutus 4 channel amp. Pioneer shallow and a D8601 for bass and full Hushmat and baffle install. It sounded GREAT! But I didn't have any factory integration even with my Sync OS. Fast forward, just bought a new 2017 F150 and thought I would invest in some nicer equipment. Unfortunately I rushed ahead, as my friend had recommended a FIX82 and I jumped on board without doing much research. So I purchased one along with a pair of Hertz Mille 165.3 Components and some Gladen Alpha 165 coaxials, retaining the Pioneer shallow 12" and pairing everything to a Hertz HDP5 5 channel amp. I really had high hopes. My installer did a decent enough job but they did some damage to my paint and I won't be returning to them. Don't feel like asking for their help any further. The first thing I noticed was the loss of my fade/balance. When I try to adjust, I can never truly isolate one door without getting sound from the other, whether it be front or back. Isolating a side isn't a problem. The Mille's also sound completely anemic and under powered, or maybe unrefined would be a better way to put it. Definitely not the air moving mids I expected from a Hertz set. The Gladen's on the other hand fill the rear pretty well. They also draw a 3ohm load so that might explain the contrast. Any ideas/suggestions? I really thought this setup would be performing better. Do you think the FIX 82 is the right piece for my setup or should I make the switch to the 86, or a different product altogether? Thanks in advance. New subscriber here! -J
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 7 лет назад
jshannon2k8 the Fix 82 is only a 2 channel output. So if you are summing the front rear and sub, than that is why everything sounds bad. You will have a lot of phasing issues, especially in the Ford. With the Fix 82, you only input what will give you a full range signal. This means probably just the front stage. If you aim in the sub with a full range front, you will have suck out at the low pass frequency of the subwoofer. Same when summing the rears. If you want to fade and the front stage is not more than 3 sets of inputs, than use the Fix 86.

Is the only benefit of the 86 vs the 82 the ability to keep oem fader control because of its six output rca channels (Front/Rear, L/R) vs two (L/R) of the 82? Or does the digital output of the 82 able to keep fader control as well?

Question for you. On the old cleansweep unit you could always here when the DSP kicked in at certain volume levels. is the new clean signal on the fix always the same or does the new flat signal change at different volume levels? Is that maybe also dependant on what the factory set up does at different volume levels. Some factory units will drop out the base at higher levels but have more bass at lower levels. what has been your experience with this.
@therealmatty_s

Matt Vanourney this will always be working. If the OEM radio had dynamic EQ (meaning the EQ changes with volume) than you have to keep the OEM radio on the volume where t was calibrated and use the JL knob for master volume.

Why most installers still require you to install Audiocontrol LCQ1 or DQ-61, is there a problem with the JL Fix 86, i've spoken to at least half a dozen of these guys, different stores too. I'm sensing they're lazy to move forward and embrace the new tech. A couple of those stores are JL Audio Authorized dealers too and they refer you to a non-authorized dealers and they charge so much, the worst thing is they don't want you to touch their setting after they set your EQ, plus they say that they're saving you money but they're labor to install is astronomical, example to install a Fix 86 cost almost $500 with the unit, which they order from their source, if you bought it somewhere they trick you and they say it's no good and they'll sell you their product saying there's a lot of noise coming from these units, One of the LCQ1 that was installed in my car got so warm that it shut my sub off so they messed around with the jumpers and ran the system into a whole system, it sounded bad at front with the highs so fatiguing and the rears so boomy, it lost the dynamics and coherency of the whole system, I'm running Audiofrog G60S front and rear with a JL Audio XD 700/5v2, and a JL sub, you think I should get the Fix 86 and install it myself, you spend so much and read up on certain products then you'll just be bummed because the installer says it's no good.
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 5 лет назад
The Fix is only responsible for fixing the input EQ from the factory radio. Every car's interior is different. Speakers are in different locations, seats are in different locations and the reflections vary from car to car. You still need a controllable DSP to achieve the target output EQ. This is done when you place a microphone inside the car and use an RTA to adjust the EQ to achieve your target EQ curve for that specific car's interior. This is where other products come in play.

@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 7 лет назад
Thats impossible. LC7i is a summing line output converter. It is not fixing signal, nor OEM time alignment. A LC7i is simply just allowing you to take a front mid and front hi and sum them into one output for an amplifier.
@damiens601
@damiens601 7 лет назад
I was in the same boat as you were, i.e. looking for a 1 stop solution for my factory deck while keeping bluetooth and steering controls. So I started hitting the forums and learnt a bit of electronics along the way. The LC7I is Line output converter (high to low) plus some feedback circuits that keep superimposing the same signal on top each other like a stackable sandwich. That's how they get the missing bass thru accubass. Problem is, ur gonna get some stacked high frequency and stacked low frequency so you will be looking for a pre-amp/crossover to start cleaning up the high shrieks and off-key lows. The fix-86 from research, does a lot of correction using DSP technology to recognise, detail and correct the signal before amplification without the use of the pre-amp/crossover. So those high spots and extreme low spots on the scope at 6:34 remain if using the LC7i, while the mid and lows are "boosted" as a result of superimposition due to feedback circuit. But with the Fix-86, it gets flat as seen at 8:29 allowing you to tweak or play just as it is.

Does the DQ-61 have "fixing" capabilities ? Or is it pretty much the same as the LC7i with extra eq controls ? Pretty sure it does time alignment though.

@Rare Bullet a little late but I went through a LC7i, DM608, and a DM810 (system evolved as my genius ass thought wow that would be awesome if I did this lol) with a JL XD800/8v2 and now to a FiX82 digital out to a JL VXi 8 channel. The AudioControl stuff is pretty easy to work with and has a lot of adjustability but, in my opinion, the sound clarity is a hair better with the FiX82 and VXi. FWIW the AudioControl has U.S. manufacturing and great support, some of the JL stuff is made in China but I haven't had any issues with support. I don't think you can really go wrong with either so I guess what I'm saying is best deal wins.

Hi, if I didn't care about fade (I've never used it in my life) would the 82 be sufficient for a simple sub amp and 4 channel install? I understand it only has two outputs but a simple splitter would solve that.
@TickleFingers
@TickleFingers 5 лет назад
If you're not going to use a DSP like the twk88. Get the fix86 over the fix82. The built in crossovers and 6 channel output is worth the extra $50 over the fix82 and you're not adding in some crappy splitters or anything like that. You're getting calibration to 6 output channels with some equalization functionality on each channel. Don't waste your money trying to save $50. You'll end up paying that in the end trying to make the fix82 work as a multiple channel unit.

You can but for just sub frequencies you really don't need it. Just get an Audio Control LOC with Accubass. I'm not a salesman that's exactly what's in my car now and for $100 and all the bass is there. You should really only get this FIX 82 or 86 if you're going to upgrade the inside speakers. From experience, just switching the speakers won't do anything without balancing the frequencies.

Hey Matt, help me out here. I am an old school (mid 90s) IASCA competitor. I understand wanting extended control over the peaks and dips in a system but a flat curve doesn't sound good to most people. I ran 2 banks of AudioControl EQLs, 1 set for the listening tests and a second set flat for RTA, and would bypass one or the other. The flat EQ wasn't thrilling to listen to. This doesn't seem like a great default process. Also, were there upgraded speakers in the Prius? You only mention the amp.
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 7 лет назад
Ryan Redmond keep in mind that the fix is just making the input EQ into your amplifier flat. Your interior frequency response will probably not be flat after the speaker. This is where you would invest in a TWK to take the signal from the Fix. With the TWK, you achieve whatever frequency curve you are after. The Fix will give you a nice flat EQ into your amplifiers much like replacing the radio with an aftermarket.
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 7 лет назад
Ryan Redmond the new TuN software for the Fix also gives you a few bands of output EQ adjustment for simple tweaks.

Great question. With the new firmware update with the Fix you have a 10 band graphic EQ on each of your outputs. With the Fix 86 you are also given the ability to have multiple options to hi pass the outputs. You can even recalibrate and view the before and after response curve of the OEM radio all within the program.

@therealmatty_s

Ken Cavallo they will sound better until they blow. Keep in mind, the reason the factory EQ is the way it is, is to optimize the sound for the OEM speaker and the way it way constructed. When you take the limited eq off the speaker, it sounds fuller but now are playing frequencies that it wasn’t made to reproduce based on their materials.

Is this better than the Audio Control DQ61

Ok so I have a question. I want to upgrade my sound system with keeping the factory radio of course. Does this mean that I have to buy the fix 86 just to flat out the signal and then also buy the twk 88 to be able adjust everything??? Or did I understand wrong? Does the twk 88 let flat out the signal and let u adjust it all in one?
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 5 лет назад
Correct...FIX fixes the input EQ into your output DSP. Your output DSP in this case would be the TWK88. The TWK fixes the atmosphere where you are playing the music (the car). With every car being different with different locations and reflections, we need to fix the atmosphere of the vehicle. Thats when we use the TWK88 and use a microphone to adjust the EQ as heard from the interior of the vehicle.

How would you run the software if your system does not support CD/DVD drive? Would it work to transfer to thumb drive and install via USB port?

FLAC.. Rip the disc to flac,, if your HU wont accept flac, then 320k MP3.. Its free software that will do it on your pc

Currently have a Bit Ten but seems outdated now, do you think this will work well if not better than the Bit Ten? (car is a 2016 Mazda 3)

locoface the Fix with the TWK working together I believe would be a better option than than bit 10

how does this work with stock HU's that have base roll off? and after it flattens the signal coming into it can you then run pinknoise through your HU and fine tune the EQ?
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 7 лет назад
Mickey Gaming you can use the Fix to flatten the signal, then use some of the graphic EQ adjustments with pink noise to make a few tweaks to the output EQ into your amplifier.
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 7 лет назад
Mickey Gaming any head units with dynamic EQ (meaning the EQ changes with volume), you will have to remember the volume that you calibrate the Fix to and use the JL knob as your master volume.

Yeah, I sort of figured that's how it worked but wasn't quite sure. Thanks!

What if the vehicle (2017 Chevy Cruze) does not have a cd player?
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 7 лет назад
Chicagofan then you rip the JL cd to your computer and put the files on a USB drive or load them on your phone to play the calibration files.

Need some help please. I have a 2017 f150 with a fix 86 in it. The installer didn't give me the CD program that came with the fix. I am missing the mid bass big time. I would like to reprogram it by pushing the button for 5 seconds. But what test tone or sound do I use? Just a regular radio station work? Thank you.
@therealmatty_s
@therealmatty_s 6 лет назад
Sound like the calibration is not your problem. I am just going to take a guess, the installer possibly summed the subwoofer and front speakers together possibly creating a phase issue. I doubt it was setup correctly.
@adamvasquez2593

Not sure. It has 4 channels in. And 3 rca out. Can i reprogram it? They didn't set my settings to 0 when doing so. What would happen?

Matt Schaeffer yes. DSP into amps.

Sounds like you have "floor noise" Your amp levels are to high. You need to find a good balance with your input voltage to not create floor noise.
@Fly2kill1

Matt Schaeffer I tried that before. It's most definitely the HU, bypassing it and running AUX it's silent.

Go look at newer cars that have everything integrated... not easy to just swap in a double din and call it a day.
@Menard892000
@Menard892000 6 лет назад
Because you cant replace the factory head unit in some newer cars or you lose A/C, heated, cooled and Ventilated seats, rear window defroster, rear view mirror dimming and so much other stuff that it doesn't make since to switch to a aftermarket unit.
