@@DMBisAwesome It's gonna get to the point where the top 20-30 players are just gonna have controllers literally made for them. Highly unlikely Nintendo will ever make new ones, and even the newest gen ones aren't as good as the OGs.
Been watching for about 15 years, and I agree. Zain's first major losers run is marred by this, and Jmook missed a chance at getting a tourney win after beating HBox (who had a 13-1 record on him before this). Even counting Shuffle V & Smash Con 2018, this is almost certainly the saddest.
M2k vs hbox getting rested like 8 times or whatever was sad. Mango getting tan a train on him G4 was sad. Westballz sandstorm was sad. Plup be Hbox TBH 7 was sad. This was tragic.
Yeah, it was a good game, and I think Zain still would have won, but it’s the uncertainty of it that makes it so disappointing, if Jmook was at his best it would have been more satisfying.
I feel bad for everyone. The spectators, competitors and TOs. Such a good tournament tho. I wanted Zain to win but i feel like i can’t be happy right now. Everybody got robbed
@kkokay4 What makes you think that. I feel like they are all friends and he was just trying to help out doesn't make sense just for attention that would do nothing for him in any way
@@Juniper205 this is a classic hbox move. Remember when zain beat leffen and hbox ran up behind him and hugged him? Zain literally didnt even know him yet lol
Yeah I mean it’s absolutely not the announcers fault lol he was just doing his job. He’s gotta promote and up the hype as much as possible. This whole situation was no one’s fault yet it made it shitty for everyone - obviously the worst for Jmook
@@Chiplinked it would of been better if the announcer just said Lets give it up for jmook everyone instead of lets hear it for 2nd place JMOOK. you can tell he didn't like that one bit lmao
Controller Johns are real af, that being said. Jmook iirc has the advantage in setcount vs Zain? I’m sure it’s close tho, but I doubt it would’ve been this one sided if Jmook’s controller wasn’t effed up. Still congrats on the dub for Zain but I know he ain’t happy about that win as a competitor lol
@GioHimonPro That's awesome! =] I used to go by Poyo btw! You might know me from PHC, I'm the maker of the Akarui and Dream characters! I was so surprised to see you in these comments! XD
@@TheBeggies95 Aye that was so painful. I don't understand what he was thinking. Why the hell would Jmook be interested in any of that just before grands lol
@@grimabsolssbm It’s a tie between these 2 and this grands 1.M2K vs Armada Smash Con 2018: Around this time M2K got significantly better as a player but he could never beat Armada in grands often. What makes this set sad is not only was M2K close to winning, but apparently was the first American player he ever became friends with and this was this their last set ever and M2K more or less went on an indefinite Hiatus Or 2.M2K vs HBOX Paragon 2015 M2K gets triple 4 stocked even in a horrendous Jigglypuff Ditto.
I’ve never seen such disenchanted players from Grand Finals juxtaposed by a guy who legit has professional hype man energy. Honestly poor Jmook as well Zain - what happened sucks for both players.
Pretty sick there was a huge tournament in the UK. Europe is woefully lacking in majors and supermajors - I'm lucky as an American to be near a lot of them, but it's awesome to see Europeans stepping up to get their own tournament series.
@@BudStepHIthe way Zain played throughout Loser’s, he definitely still could have won even if Jmook’s controller was fine. Probably wouldn’t have been 6-0 though.
Do you not realize that the crowd is underwhelmed BECAUSE of the controller thing? There’s no “despite the controller thing”, because that issue is basically what defined the whole set.
Huge bummer that Jmook's controller broke at such an inopportune time. It's too bad that Melee players have to spend hundreds of dollars maintaining modded controllers instead of the community agreeing to a software balanced patch of the game such as Hax's 1.03. The game would be sooo much more accessible when everyone could use a vanilla controller, and stuff like this wouldn't happen.
Idk about everyone else but it was just so clear to me that Jmook wasn’t playing at his normal level so the controller issues make a lot of sense to me
If your using modified hardware you run this risk. I’m sure the players understand this. I don’t think the phob was ever advertised as product that can’t fail.
Love these two players and it’s all good but I just can’t fathom being a top 10 player (let alone a top 3 player) and only bringing one controller you’re comfortable using to tournaments
@@alexblackburn2247 I feel like it should be get the one fancy one, and have another controller that at least works. You won't have all your notches and mods and such, but if you know you can shield drop, wavedash, ledgedash, up b the right way, then that's at least something as a backup.
Melee is extremely precise at top level and it's pretty much impossible to have 2 controllers in the same condition. Switching controller will make a lot of things feel different and would probably have led to Jmook losing anyways.
Those 3 are really pulling away as the only possible contenders for #1 by the end. Unless someone else wins literally everything from here out it’ll be one of them
Omg GRAND FINALS Zain and Jmook having a Conversation 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 ZAIN Face is like ....... Maybe i shouldve just played Roy He knows Marth can win Grand Finals ...THE PERCENTAGE IS HIGHER THE DIFFICULTY with Roy winning is VERY VERY VERY LOW
This was the most depressing smash video I have ever seen. Even when they cheered Jmook at the end he just looked even more sad. Then Zain looked just as depressed. Never experienced such an awkwardly negative finals lol.
m2k literally carried a bag of controllers lololol. People have been modifying controllers since the first person accidentally notched their controller or had a spring fail in a trigger and replaced it with a shorter spring. You literally don’t know anything about this community obviously
Why would you assume that? I been a part of the com for 8 years now and I'm top 3 in my country since 2018. All I'm saying is this is the first time I've seen something like this happened in grands at a major. OEM rarely malfunction like this out of the blue because they don't have modifyable settings, what you get with them is basically just a slow gradual worsening over time.
Deserved win for Zain. Controllers are the responsibility of each competitor so bring a spare or accept the risks involved with pushing controllers to their limits in make and use. Nobody ever said it would give you all the benefits and no drawbacks. Of course nobody wants to see that get in the way of the game, but I would argue that Zain was simply more prepared to play this tournament.
Idk if he was more prepared, like this could have happened to anyone, Zain deserved the win that's correct, indeed he won. But everyone knows that this grand is just a little tasteless for Zain, he wants to win against 100% Jmook, is just a bad final.
No one is saying that Zain didnt deserve the win, just that it was unfortunate that he played against Jmook with a contoller problem. Also, the controller that malfunctioned in the middle of game 3 of set 1 was apparently his spare.
Really announcer?!? Are you not socially aware?!?! “Congratulations zain!” dawg he’s talking to jmook. Stop. “To second place JMOOK” he doesn’t wanna hear that shit! His controller broke in grands and the last thing he wants to here is “congrats 2nd place”. Seriously, why has no one talked about the announcer.
@@robcaboose510 Nah, he should’ve given some time and said something along the lines of “give it up to the TO’s and the staff for hosting this event. Thank you for supporting us and congrats to all the top 8 for an incredible showing”. Saying “shout outs to ZAIN” wasn’t too bad, but still too soon. “Give it up to second place JMOOOOOOK” was WAY out of pocket
@@robcaboose510 haha, yeah OP is a bit insane on this one. Literally every competition celebrates the winner immediately and gives a shout out to the runner up. They're just personally upset lol.
@@KalebSDayNah, I still that shit is outta pocket for the situation. Why you gotta say “shoutouts to 2nd place JMOOK” after what happened lol. That’s so unaware.
He lost the second game because whoever is in charge of the hub/icons is an hbox cuck and though it was appropiate to put green puff instead of shiek under Jmoook, but then he realized he jinxed and fked it up so he changed it back
No matter what it was, Zain had his foot on Jmooks neck for practically the entire set. Every stock. Baiting out grabs, whiff punishing predictable buttons from Mook, punishing so hard each opening. That’s a sweep ladies & gentleman 🧹🧹🧹🧹
