Thanks, Paulie!! I'm hoping for some good wifi to upload some content but I'm kinda holding till then, Im afraid!! Hopefully in the next week we can get underway!
I was stoked to hear the travelinbeat anthem song again. Happy you are back out on the trail cause you make awesome hiking content. I stumbled across you on RU-vid in the middle of AT. Followed you on the CDT, and PCT as well. I knew nothing about hiking, and thanks to you and your content I applied for a permit this winter and got out on the PCT to see it with my own eyes.
Fantastic, thank you sos so much!! I'm honored to have played some motivating role in your exploration of the natural world! Thanks for watching and commenting, it means a lot to me!!!
Thanks, Eric and Cindy in NM! Looking like the debut will be delayed until I reach adequate wifi, unfortunately, but rest assured production is already well underway!
The TSA tracks bags with firearms very carefully - kind of like sending a registered letter, where it’s logged in at each PO it passes through. It ‘protects’ the bag from being misrouted.
Sure am!! Thanks for being AWESOME, Allen, I'm so pleased to have met you and shared some great conversation on the cruise up to the start!! Videos forthcoming pending availability of quality wifi (what Yosemite boasts in beauty it lacks in connectivity!)
JMT ++, aha, that sounds interesting for sure… Thanks for the gear review, not many extra underwear and socks, but the electronics section looks good… 👍 The start gun trick looks like a bit overwhelming for me, hihi 🤭 Err, not possible to pay a bit extra to have your bag tagged as priority luggage? (But maybe they don’t do that anymore 🤷♀️)… Looking forward to following you, and have a nice trip 😀🌞
Priority luggage, still subject to TSA check through with that critical "tossed"/"damaged"/"disrupted" item after the search which for an ultra-thin pack that has a dozen straps and packed a certain way is a surefire thing. After all the gun scares that gets posted to YT I think TSA would just not want to bother touching a bag with a gun tagged to it because of that. Given the timeframes he set for himself on hikes, he mentions flying out within the 24 hours, I can understand why he is overly paranoid about that stuff and ensuring luggage at destination even though it isn't a problem for 95% of travelers and their checked baggage.
Hey Beat! Looks like a fantastic geag list!! Wahoo you're heading out again. Really enjoyed the Netherlands city walk series. Not sure what to call it! Ive never seen anything like it!! Good luck on the JMT ! I'll be looking forward to it!!
Thanks, Becky! I am also kind of uncertain what to call that event-- for what it's worth, they call it a march, which I suppose is a term I'm happy enough to use in deference to local custom!
Appreciate your no BS gear commentary. Do you have a video about how you planned your JMT hike? Travel plans, shuttle, permits, etc. Thanks for sharing.
looking forward to your videos!! we had a great 20 mile hike in yosemite last week and then went to the eastern sierra and back over sonora pass, was thinking of all you pct hikers /// ps you may already know Frozen from outdoor adventures took up your practice of giving a weekly health update, you started a pct video trend, very cool
Huge pack and way more? But hard to argue with a PCT thru hiker that forged a continuous thru-hike of the sierras (triple crown) and further! I followed your every PCT video.
Hey Beat hope all is well, hope you have a good trip across the sierra. Ive been good, hanging out in the central Oregon Cascades again this summer walking the miles as much as possible.
Good to see you back! I just hiked Mammoth to Kennedy Meadows South and you started before I finished. So I'll be interested to see your perspective on what I just hiked. Your solar may be much more challenging going sobo with the sun in your face rather than at your back. As a fellow sobo I can relate. I finally broke down and got that same pillow a couple years ago. Best decision I ever made. I also got a locking biner for my inReach after dropping it from my pack twice. I have no idea how that happened but it won't happen again!
Nice!! Glad you warmed up the trail for me, that's a great section! Yeah Solar Panel wound up not working great for me after all-- perhaps I'll give it another try some time down the road!
Solar panel is "Lixada," available on Amazon. This is the 3rd one I've owned. I was impressed with the 1st (CDT, '22), but the second and this third one have not really been worth the weight. I will be swapping it out soon and carrying more batteries instead, I'm sorry to report
Sorry that my unscripted nature is so difficult to hear! I was home for about 50hr between Europe and California and decided to take the time to collect, arrange, organize, shoot, edit, and post a video in hopes that it might help people. I beg for lenience in judgement, so little of what I post is perfect, bit it's all honest and hopefully that counts for something. I can assure you that the frequent deployment of subconscious linguistic fillers is not by design
