Yeah totally agree! I love the story but if it had been written now, I feel like Jo would get her deserved ending of going for her writing without any love interest there. At least it’s still not the main part of her story.
yk she actually wasn’t meant to marry professor bhaer. in the book it happens that way because the publisher forced louisa may alcott (the author of little women) to marry jo since it would apparently “sell” more than a single heroine. in the movie this is actually reflected in the first scene when an editor of a newspaper tells jo that he will only publish her story if she makes sure that the leading woman is married by the end. however, since jo is a reflection of the actual writer, i assume that the end she really wanted for jo is for her to make her own way on the world and become rich due to her manuscripts as this is actually how louisa may alcott’s life was like
She didn’t actually marry the professor in the movie, the last scene with her kissing the professor was how she altered the book at the end because the publisher told her so, but in really life she never ended up with anyone.
Yeah i read this somewhere on the internet that jo was supposed to end up alone. But she (the author) had to alter the book because of the social pressure that women needed to be married.
"I persist and resist the temptation to ask you if one thing had been different would everything be different today?" That line is written for them. Change My Mind ❤️
"I think you'll marry. You'll find someone and love them. You will live and die for them. That's your way, and you will... And I'll watch." funny how Laurie said this, but Jo ended up doing so.😭💔
"In my defense, I have none" totally matching Jo's immediate regret of turning down Laurie's proposal and her many silly reasons/excuses for doing so ("I don't why I can't love you the way you want me to"/ "I don't think I will ever marry to anyone"/ "We will always disagree with one another"/ "You wouldn't want to marry me because I am awkward, I'm not proper"/ "I value my liberty too much to ever get married") Both Jo and Laurie were just too young and impulsive to handle the serious next step to their relationship. Jo is too rush to turn Laurie down with her many childish excuses when she has no idea what true love and real heartbreak feels like so how could she know she doesn't love and needed Laurie as much or the same way Laurie does for her? And Laurie is too strong-headed to pressure Jo too hard in his ultimatum way of proposing and later too proud to give Jo time for regretting her decision and give her a 2nd chance to say yes by proposing to Jo again. In the end, they were just too young to correct their misunderstanding and the mis-opportunities. "It would have been sweet, it could have been me" that's what in Jo's mind when she found out that her soulmate married her little sister.
I think that you’re super right and wrong cause…they were soulmates but here’s the thing, Jo is an independent girl living in a time where a girl’s worth was what she can do for a man. And if Laurie waited until she found herself and accomplishments, she would’ve married him but while he was impatient for the girl of his dreams, he also kinda neglected hers.
@@bandanagirl417 Like I said in my initial comment that both Laurie and Jo are just too young too stubborn and too similar to know the correct way to undo their mistakes and Laurie as a man of that time was too heartbroken and too proud to be the 1st one to apologize. The combination of mistakes and misunderstanding as well as their pride resulted in them missing the chance of being with their soulmate for the rest of their life. To lose being with the love of your life is something neither of them will ever get over!
In my defense I think Jo could have learned to love Laurie like how Laurie learned to love Amy. It was Amy who told him that love is chosen. Not just something that magically happens. And he learned that he could, all this time, he could love someone who isn't hurting him like Jo did to his heart. And it sucks and I hate it, because in that sense I believe Jo could learn to love him if she chose to. That she would be able to love laurie as laurie learned to love Amy. but she was too late and he had already learned to love someone else. and it breaks my heart. And man my emotions are so invested in this don't mind me
Amy was such a villain and she still gets away with it. 1. Always jealous of jo, she burned her books out of jealousy and I know she was young but damn I was once twelve too and didn’t burn other peoples hard work. 2. Went with their aunt in France instead of Jo and I know you will say that she didn’t know how heartbroken Jo was over this but SHE LITERALLY SAW HER when she said that she thought that her aunt was supposed to take her in France instead . 3. Met Laurie in France, saw him being extremely heartbroken over her sister and kept on loving him and interfering when it really wasn’t her place to do so. 4. She used him when she knew he was at his worse and got together with him even though he had a relationship like this with her sister - they were always together, best friends, he proposed to her and he was still heart broken over Jo but that literally didn’t stop her. 4. She got married before she could ask her sister about it and she even admitted that she thought she might me angry meaning she knew exactly how painful this would be for her and still did it. 5. The first thing that she said to Laurie was something along the lines of “my sister is getting her books published and I am not a genius” 6. Was she even in love with Laurie or was it just to spite her sister ? 7. We all know damn well that hadn’t she got as involved with him during their stay in France Laurie and Jo would be end game . I am not saying that they would necessarily be a match made in heaven I am just pointing out that had that letter reached him before he married Amy, LUrie and jo would be a couple by the end . 7. She calls me her “lord” ? 🤮 8. LAurie settled for Amy because he was heartbroken from Jo. He still wore her ring for god shake. 9. Imagine having a sister like that ? 10. I know that probably Jo and Laurie wouldn’t be the perfect match but so was LUrie and Amy and so was Jo and the professor . In my humble opinion Laurie rushed his proposal when jo was not yet ready because she thought this would prohibit her from the feminism lifestyle. Your best friend is always the best match for you, they were soulmates and they would have been happier together. Nothing can change my mind .
i’m so late to leave comments but this video is the best, the way the lyrics literally match with the scenes, e.g, “it’s another day waking up alone” and the camera pans to the empty bed, and “and if my wishes came true, it would’ve been you” AND THERES LAURIE RIGHT BEFORE HER
Omg I'm so Jo that it hurts in a way, I think we all wanted this pair to end up together, but I understand so well that I cry when I see the situation he was in, it's a very difficult thing to explain but sometimes it's so hard to have a relationship, not know how to love someone properly and think that maybe he won't love you for who you really are , it is something very strange and somehow inexplicable, but I suffered a lot, whatever...
it just doesn’t make sense to me. they have incredible chemistry but don’t understand me wrong but i didn’t see this chemistry with amy :( the were like a soulmate
okay but whenever there's a scene in Little Women where Jo & Laurie is just playing around i always think 'nah they're not acting, that's just how Timothee & Saoirse are with each other in real life'
Even if he’d found the letter, he was already married to Amy. He was already in love with Amy. If he had found the letter it would have just made their relationships awkward but he wouldn’t have left Amy.
@@rosiearts7199 Tbh it felt like Laurie just settled for Amy cause he couldn't have Jo. Amy and Laurie's relationship didn't even make sense, it was too sudden, not even fleshed out.
@@onlystarsknow767 I completely disagree. His relationship with Amy as an adult forms and is completely different then his relationship to her as a “child” when he used to love Jo. He gets to know her again as a woman who is responsible and smart and has her own values. Not just Jos annoying little sister. He finally sees her as more, and she makes him work for it too. It’s not like she just swoons the second he shows an interest. They grew up together but never interacted as equals, then in France finally get to really talk, get to know each other and for a real relationship. Their relationship builds in a very natural and satisfying way.
People dont agree with fact that jo ends up with someone in movie. I think its the most perfect thing, she deserved that. It wasn't a poor choice. Her entire life was this hustle and responsibilities she never actually willed even though being a writer. Young love is like that, lauire and jo... that was young love.

casting saoirse and timothee as jo and laurie is the best and worst thing this adaptation did. best because they are incredible actors and worst because their chemistry is soo good that despite the plot, people wished they ended up together.
