Joan Armatrading....more people need to discover Joan. A phenomenal voice, musician, lyricist and extremely versatile, you will hear many different styles and tempos from her. I've circled back around to listen to her again for 20+ yrs. now. Some stated prior, but here are some suggestions...Show Some Emotion; Love and Affection; The Weakness In Me (touching lyrically this one); Me, Myself I ; Willow.
I LOVED your reaction and how you didnt keep stopping it every 1 minute!! I cannot tell you how much I love Joan Armatrading, she is one of the best singer-songwriters ever. That performance made me tear up!!!! SO GLAD YOU FINALLY FOUND HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember going to see her play live here in London back in the '70's and she absolutely blew me away that night. She always had this kind of self consciousness about her, and her music reflected that very often. God bless her, she's still criminally underrated and unappreciated but she's one of the finest we've ever produced. 🙋♂
Yayyyy Joan Armatrading. Her finest writing was "Love And Affection", 1976 version is gorgeous! 👼😁 And she plays some delicious electric blues guitar in "A Woman In Love". 😇🌹
Aww my absolute favourite and rhis is my favourite song from joan. She is absolutely amazing and its criminal that she has not had the recognition she deserves ❤
Joan has a catalog so worthy of respect. She's English and never made a big splash here in the US. One of her finest is another live track from 1977 called "Woncha Come on Home". Brilliant
All these great artists that you’re reacting to and all the very smart people requesting them is such a beautiful thing! The only thing more beautiful is your ever so stunning smile. Thank you Angela 😊😘
Finally someone reacts to Joan Arm trading, one of my female performer/songwriters of all times. I think she is Jamaican and that accounts for her accent that you noticed. Lots of good song suggestions here and I would add Willow, This Must Be Heaven and I'm Lucky
Just to correct some of the mistakes in my comment, Joan was born and spent most of her childhood in Caribbean islands such as Saint Christopher and Antigua which are close to Jamaica but are not Jamaica. She moved to England when she was seven years old. And the song I recommended is called "Heaven" not This Must be Heaven as I remembered the lyric wrongly which actually goes Am I In Heaven.
Your beautiful. The person who requested this is probably a wizard so you should listen to him more often. I’m so happy to see this get a reaction. My Dad always loved her and I never knew anything she sang just that he’d go see her when she came around. A few years back her name popped in my head and I decided to listen to her stuff. She is fantastic and I’d wish more people knew about her. Great stuff
Another new one to me! I really like it! It's very down home and rustic! It's great to hear something new and interesting, and discovering the different types of magic that music has to offer!
Born in St Kitts and raised in Britain. Joan brought the Reggae influence to her music. That's the connection most folks miss. Check out Rosie, All the way from America, and Willow. She first came on the scene in the late 1970s, so there is value in that.
Played this song and the whole 1976 album Joan Armatrading to death, some songs off that album are almost too beautiful, too moving ... 'Love and affection' being one ' save me' the other. Think she was brought up in Birmingham, England
You are pulling from the top shelf. Me likey. Other Joan greats include: "Shouting Stage", "Stronger Love", "I'm Lucky", "All a Woman Needs" and "Love & Affection". Each song a powerhouse of depth and emotion and skill. I knew you'd resonate with her intelligence. Most of those songs above are on the Shouting Stage album. I can imagine all of these songs becoming your anthems. She is that great...and vastly underrated. Enjoy the adventure! She is like a female Jimi Hendrix, and Benjamin Clementine is like a male Joan Armatrading.
Right on the money David, but Love & Affection is head and shoulders above those other songs..............................................it's that good. Joan is a colossus.
Such a terrific talent It took a little time until anyone in this country noticed her, and then it was as if record companys were trying to categorize her She clearly had those clever vocal phrasings like Joni and Dylan, if those brilliant executives would've let her be herself Yeah she has a big catalogue Great choice
I'm coming to this late but so glad you reacted to Joan = wonderful singer, songwriter and guitarist. I saw her live twice many years ago. I didn't go to many concerts but she was the person I prioritized singing. For a little change of pace I love Water with the Wine - from the same album
Shook the worry from your head, but then again she put trouble in your heart... These and others of her lyrics were the soundtrack to my sweatheart and my romance some 43 years ago now, and we're still together! Thanks, Joan!
She is a real treasure. Her self-titled third album, from which this song comes, is nigh on perfect. Fab song after fab song, superb arrangements and production, and her beautiful, soulful voice. Literally *any* song from it is worth doing. Great songs elsewhere: Show Some Emotion, Willow, Cool Blue Stole My Heart, Barefoot And Pregnant, All The Way From America, I Need You, and Drop The Pilot.
You clearly love her. Joan is from Birmingham in England. So talented. Please listen to her song 'You've got somebody who loves you'. You will love it. Really.
I only know Joan Armertrading through my brothers love of music in the 70's and his buying record albums that were not all main stream, I fell in love with her and her album for obvious reasons and all any one has to do to find out who she is is to just "you tube" Joan Armertrading full album
Yes yes yes. Brilliant request, thanks! I was lucky enough to be exposed to Joan Armatrading back in the late 70s. Gotta say, while I love “Bottom to the Top” , my very favorite of hers is called “Get in Touch With Jesus” - which has just amazing guitar and vocals - and though the title sounds like it’s a heavily religious song -it’s not, really. It’s about lost love and a desperate yearning to find hope - to be able to dream again. As individual tracks go -that track is in my top 50 all-time, all artists. Absolute jewel in my book. Yay! This reaction is also a great song, an excellent live performance. Great to be there to see Angela discover Joan!!!
Joan Armatrading.....without doubt one of the best, if not the best singer songwriter to come out of the UK ever.....a fiercely loyal fan base and a back catalogue well worth a listen....dive in and enjoy....you will not be disappointed....superb. As an aside, whilst touring back in the day she passed the time between gigs by studying for a history degree......which she duly got.!! As a further aside Melissa Etheridge covered Joan's song "Weakness in me".....
I've always been one to listen to many styles of music. As a youth I lent my ear more toward Zeppelin__Sabbath__RUSH__etc., but I also listed to much much more. I recall having her cassette, with this song on it, in the late 70s.
She was a big star. I saw her in London in about 1980. Do listen to more of her songs. The Weakness In Me is just fantastic - the album version is best
Isaw her at Hamersmith Odion in 1980. San Francisco in82 and The Sage Gatesheadi think 2012. Been a big fan since her 1st sold record ´Back To The Night`. Worn out many copies.
Thanks, you bring us some brilliant songs with your reactions. But what I really, really appreciate is that you don't interrupt with inane chatter you treat these songs with respect and listen with us Thanks again.🙌🙌👍
Such an underrated artist from a time of great lyricists and musicians. Love her compositions. So much to listen to like Barefoot and Pregnant, Love and Affection to name but two of an extensive catalogue. Great reaction
Great reaction! Another vocalist for Ladies Night: Diana Ankudinova is 18 years old in this video, singing a very unique cover of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. She's a contralto, and a commanding stage presence. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M-znD6QKbrg.html The performance was from a Russian show that aired last fall, and ran for 9 weeks. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles. Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned at a bus stop in the winter with a broken collarbone by her abusive mother at the age 3 and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest, as they say, is history. It's a safe prediction that you'll have goosebumps and say that's the most unique voice you've ever heard.
Listen to "Dark Truths" by her. No one seems to remember her anymore. I sold 3,000 records, my whole collection, last year and they did not want Joan Armatrading.
I wish "Beautiful" Angela would react to a great song and musician for me called, "Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five." by Paul McCartney. He gets very little recognition on these reaction videos. Especially since he was a Beatle and is to this day, the most successful songwriter in history.
OKAY - IF YOU WANT TO GET MISTY EYED - #1-IT'S MADNESS - MARVIN GAYE #2 ANGEL-ARETHA FRNKLIN- #3 - MISTAKE NUMBER 3 - CULTURE CLUB -#4 - GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON - PHYLIS HYMAN ( LAST SONG SHE MADE BEFORE TAKING HER OWN LIFE.😪)
Joan is so great, She's had so many hits over the years. Another love song that might get you is Glen Medeiros-Nothings gonna change my love for you from 1987. Love seeing you feel the emotion the songs!
Angela, I'd like to request a song called Make Me Smile, by the group Chicago. See if RU-vid will let you play the American Bandstand clip. It sounds the best! Thanks!
Does she have anything else to listen to?!?! 😲😲😲 Only around 50 YEARS of impeccable songwriting & performing..........& still busy working!! You'd be very hard pressed to find a more pure 'performer' in music, she's amazing!! 😍
Absolutely under rated artist....look for her "Drop the Pilot", I believe her only US hit...she was much bigger in the UK. Love your channel...Here's a couple ladies for Friday...havent seen you do any Anita Baker, "You Bring Me Joy"(studio version) a fav. of mine. Also look for Sass Jordan "You Dont have to Remind Me" I got a million other songs to recommend!!
