Saw her and Richard Thompson 20 years ago. So sensational !!!! I brought 3 friends with me (who didn't know either Joan or Richard). One of us four now loves them both more than I did when I brought them all there. That is the loveliness of influencing beloved friends. Our family chooses us. We choose our friends !!!
@@kanebaker3075 I haven't been able to find it for over 3 years now...... This version is wonderful...... but ........ there was a show where this song was even more amazing. It was Joan Armatrading LIVE AT ABBEY ROAD....... if you find it, it's the best version of the song EVER. Probably something stupid like copyright squabbling that got it taken down. But....... if you find it....... Kudos ........ you are all the luckier for stumbling upon it !!!!
And then there's Taylor swift. There's more soul in this angels little toe than Taylor whole body. Got to see joan perform live 5 times beyond amazing. She has feed my soul for about 50 years. I'm a 76 years young man who loves joan
I have heard Joan saying that she never tires of singing this song. I will never tire of listening to it! Thank you, Joan, for so many years of unique musical pleasure!
Only ever known the studio recording, but this version is off the scale for production quality, vocal delivery and sheer dripping emotion! This is the definitive version imo!
Without a doubt one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in my 70 years . I remember hearing that song when it first came out and was floored by the perfection. That feeling has never gone. Few people have a gift as great as Joan’s.
often find myself disappointed with live music versions of studio songs i like but OMFG, how awesome is this woman still. absolute masterclass, gave me goosebumps
This has been the definitive performance of this song for me for years but I've only just realised the sax player is also the drummer. Added level of coolness.
Damn, after hearing this song on Netflix series ‘Eric’, I came to check it out again and found this version on Jools Holland, she absolutely nailed it to the point of making the hairs on my arms stand up, what a song and above that, what a performer Joan is live!
I Was 21 and lived in London at that time where one day I found a tape there I discovered Joan Armatreding and falled in love with her since then, I'm 57 today and the shivering hasn't changed so far
Fantastic. Sitting here with a big grin on my face. Even better than when I first fell in love with this song 25 years ago. Joan you are an absolute legend ❤x
Legend is often over used and when it isn't true. This musician is simply among the best....ever. Wonderful voice, oustanding writer and an outstanding musician. ❤
I, as a old men, am musically stuck in the 80ies, therefore I appreciate this song very much, thanks Mrs Armatrading your keep my positive memorys alive!
What is going on with the BBC all of a sudden? They must have accidentally hired someone with good taste to work in the RU-vid release department. Joan Armatrading is always on my playlist.
That's because they are releasing the Jools Holland Later archives on YT as they get selected from faves by whatever artist they feature on his show each week... .. and even the crap artists can pick great stuff :)
This song is so beautiful and so totally leveling. I came to a new understanding of some real troubles in my life by listening carefully to this song. I am forever grateful to the extraordinary Ms. Armatrading. Thank you, so much, for sharing your incredible gifts and insights with the world.
I just listened to the 1976 version of this song from Joan, and in 2007 she is spot on here with it again. Always loved this song and Joan is fantastic!
Saw Joan on the OGWT blew me away........I think I was probably about 16 at the time. Saw her play a few times (I am in B'ham in UK) Love authenticity of this writers material.
I saw her live back in the 80’s in Dublin. She had a guitar with a mirror finish on its face and they aimed a spotlight right at it. The lights went down and that guitar shone like a searchlight over the crowd. The impression still stays with me. We were all blown away. What an artist.
Joan is the real deal. Always has been. I remember when I first heard this in college back in 1976. And just look at her. She's going to be 74 years old!! Not one line or bag or anything. You go, Joan!!!!
I can only listen to this version. Haha these guys kill the background vocals so hard that all the other versions pale in comparison… no shit.. god I love this.
Totally agree Amy H. Only ever known the studio recording which is great but this version is truly off the scale both in production quality and Ms Armatrading's vocal delivery. God I love this too!
I love this artist so much. She was a groundbreaker and this song was her first big hit almost 50 years ago. I might have never known about her if not for my gay roommate who invited me to a concert. She was a hit in the gay community for her song about a drag queen named Rosie, but without my good friend Phil I could have missed her talent. RIP my dear brother. You and your friends gave me a new way to look at the world and we both witnessed those dear men fall one by one until it was your turn. I miss your intelligence and your humor. ❤
