Part I of 4
A tribute to Anthony Newley part one. Rare footage and recordings.
Keeping the memory of Anthony Newley alive.
In the mid 90’s Tony kindly gave me hours and hours of private film footage from his personal collection. In this video there are just a few wonderful moments from that footage.
I intend to continue to place up more, when time permits. The piano and vocal demos are from the recordings we made in the early and late 90’s. I hope you enjoy this video as much as we have enjoyed putting together.

This interview with Merv Griffin is just great. Anthony is very witty, and, of course very handsome and talented. I love the long hair look. I would have given anything to run my hands through it. LOVE AND MISS YOU, TONY.

How many people realize that the woman who brings Newley his socks is Jackie Collins, later to be the much celebrated and notorious novelist!
@markdeimel4869
@markdeimel4869 2 года назад
@constantine the crabbit Sorry you're too focused on pissing to watch the actual video; early on Newley says that they are staying at his sister-in-law's place; then, at precisely 5:39, he says, "Yes, Jackie, I do want my socks." She then complies. That is Jackie Collins, not his wife, Joan.

Hi Nick so pleased you enjoyed them I several more, which I will get around to doing. Tony gave me videos originally then some years ago I transferred them to DVD now they have to go back to the computer for iMove, so once I get set up it’s a bit easier to do a few at a time. A lot of the songs I added have never been released so it’s a joy for me to hear them again, anyway many thanks for your kind comments everyone has said nice things so that inspires me to keep uploading. Kind regards Kenny

@@denton115 Ive more or less just decoverd anthony newley, sparked by my intreast of coarse by Bowie, and that scene from gangster no.1 lol. But Wow never knew he was behind so many classics and most notably, by my self at lest, "feeling good" as a co-writer Could you tell me was he the lyricist or the composer. As i can't find this information anywhere thank you

@@rainblaze. Hi I'm so pleased you are discoverying the genuis of Anthony Newley, although my channel has many uploads celebrating Tony's life. I have recently uploaded Part (1) of in a way an introduction to Anthony Newley, outlining his life, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o1GImlFcWhs.html there is another upolad coming soon continuing his life story. Many of Tony's classic songs were written with his partner Leslie Bricusse. Mostly Tony would write the lyrics and Leslie wrote the music. I hope this gives you some background. Kind regards Kenny

@@denton115 Thank you so much for the info Kenny . I think his influence extends further than just Bowie as i can hear echos of his lyrical ideas in other artists as well. Two which immediately spring to mind are morrissey with the smiths song "let me get what i want" and even the McCartney with the Beatles song "all together now" where he employs the "Darling" trick, but using numbers instead of letters , but maybe I'm reading to much into that one -- but given he went on to write a song called "oh darlin" -- maybe not. I'll be sure to check out your other bio videos of him with great pleasure and thank you again for your reply.

What is the mystery of Anthony Newley somehow seen in his face and his expressions and his voice a sadness, but also a fortitude the sense of it is, somehow a very gifted person but a sad person. RIP dear Anthony Newley
@denton115
@denton115 Год назад
Hi Onalee. I not sure your question is answerable. But I don’t think the sadness is prevalent is his early days. So in my view, the major success during the 60’s and his marriage to Joan etc began the divide between Anthony and Tony, which lasted to the very end. I was lucky enough to spend a fair amount time with the both. When I worked with Anthony he was always analysing himself. Whereas when spending time on a personal level he was completely different character. He had a wonderful sense of humour he was a fantastic impersonator. I once suggested he should do it in his act. I can still see his eyebrows going down and his eyes going up. When I asked him about various times in his professional life he would alway answer talking about Newley in the third person. It’s hard to describe how different he was as Tony especially around his mum grace. I really wish I could describe it better. Kindest regards Kenny

@@denton115 You have been so kind, Kenny to talk about Tony and the other side of him, Anthony.... and I am truly delighted and happy to learn how you knew him and were his trusted friend. These home movies, especially when he is holding his little child, there is so much love expressed there for that child and for a father child relationship that he has in that moment. When he performs, there is a mystery of how he allows us to see his soul and it is a lovely thing to know this man, Tony Newley. Thank you so much for your comments and for Keeping the Memory Alive. A blessing!!!!!

Quite poignant the footage at the end of the young Newley family at the airport, in the optimistic days of the 60s, good years still ahead of them.

It seems he was a humble man with a wonderful sense of humor. I tried to like "Doctor Dolittle", but couldn't. The only thing I like about this film is Bricusse's work. Also read somewhere that Rex Harrison was very mean to AN during the filming of it. Thank you for keeping your promise.

I will put up Pt 2 and 3 and maybe 4 it's just time soon. Tony did have trouble with Rex. I wrote. book a few years ago, which sold as as an ebook the company went bust so I had to take it down. I had time to look at it agin and note some new chapters but still haven't finished Time again. I have put below an excerpt from Tony's chapter relating to Dr. D . Tony told me a story concerning the making of the movie, “Dr Dolittle”. Rex Harrison was originally second choice to play the lead. When he was finally cast as Dolittle the movie problems began. The first thing he did was fire the director. He then set about changing Leslie Bricusse’s screenplay, so everyone else in the film had monosyllabic lines, allowing Rex to gain the best lines in the movie. Whilst these changes were taking place, Rex chose to sit out his contract, continuingly making unreasonable demands such as having Sammy Davis Jr. who was to play the role of Bumpo, replaced by Sidney Poitier who was not known as a musical artist. The part of Bumpo was eventually cut out altogether. The producers lost their patience and hired Christopher Plummer to replace Harrison, but when Rex agreed to behave, Plummer was paid his entire salary to leave the production. Rex’s talent for upsetting everyone involved in the movie was avenged by the animals that would bite him at every opportunity.

@@denton115 Thank you for sharing this story. How wonderful it would be if Christopher Plummer stayed. He was a great actor. I've learned just recently that he was also an accomplished pianist. Thanks again for being generous and share your archives.
