I want the 80s back. Power suits, matching shoes and pocketbook, fabulous jewelry, big hair, outstanding accessories. Today's fashion sucks. I learned how to be a smart ass watching Alexis on Dynasty, Sable on The Colbys and J. R. Ewing on Dallas. I learned to prance watching Alexis...she's got a confident walk that non-verbally says "don't mess with me."
I grew up watching Dynasty with my family, God !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Joan Collins as Alexis was the epitome of elegance and glamour, no TV show has matched that character till date. I am sure Joan kept some of the dresses. Her wardrobe was to die for, oh my mum use to watch Alexis just to gawk at her clothes. MMMMM the 80s.
Dynasty was quite simply a designer’s playground. Every week I looked forward to the most beautiful ensembles on earth. Nolan Miller, if he’s not already, belongs in the Fashion Hall of Fame. Such imagination, creativity, and variety will never be equaled. Bravo, sir, bravo!!!
Dame Collins is and has been since she started a benchmark of talent, style, distinction, elegance, and professional grooming until this day features that are very rare these days... young starlets have a lot to learn from dame Collins... living legendary figure until now... love her!!
Dame Joan Collins is exceptional. At 87 yrs old, she's still advertising for cosmetics giant, Clarins. Not many could do that at her age. Beautiful lady.
When it comes to looks Joan is in the same league as Elizabeth Taylor. Sophia Loren must still be kicking herself for turning down the role of the century. The only American actress that could have played that role would probably have been Raquel Welch.
Joan has a perfect face for the camera and her makeup is in a league of its own. She knows style and with Nolan Miller created the Dynasty style which has never been replicated or matched since. You have to really give it to Joan Collins because when u see the clothes on their own without the wearer or with a model wearing them they are not the same... the magic is not there. Joan Collins made the character Alexis memorable with good acting and a lot of camera presence and the over stylised acting she did was perfect for this 80s Aaron Spelling camp grand night time soap...something that has changed with acting styles for tv now a days. Also the casting was perfect and the other actors on the show really complimented each other. Times change. Tv has changed. Tastes change. Acting has changed for tv. And that’s all fine because we have such a glorious and delightful legacy that is Dynasty.
Me, too! I loved through the 80s and yes, it was glamorous. Even those with limited means could look glam shopping costume jewelry and knock-off power suits at Kmart, J. C. Penney, etc., and matching shoes and pocketbooks at Payless Shoes Source. We've lost glamour and traded it for classless t-shirts and sweatpants.
The 80's..... Before there was an influx of cheap disposable clothes, and everyone did their best to look their best...... Nowadays people wear pajamas to the store, and consider athletic wear "casual" I miss the 80's , the glam, and the shopping!!!!
I could not agree with you more !! ...........people like to make fun of 80's fashion but even in pants back then there was a sense of femininity not so anymore from behind most girls look like boys now . And now leggings everywhere i'm sorry in my opinion just ugly women just don't put as much thought into there style anymore .
Joan Collins is a singular beauty. She always wore the clothes. They never wore her. In order to pull off those grand looks, one has to have star appeal & a larger-than-life persona. Sound like anyone we know? Joan Collins totally fit the bill. She’s a marvel.
I love this video. I used to watch it all the time before you took it down for a while. I only wish that the images were more crisp. (I wonder if they're fading because I'm watching it so much?)
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH. I LOVE THIS. GREAT EDITING AND MUSIC..............I COULD KEEP GUSHING BUT I WON'T BORE YOU...................OUTSTANDING!!!!!!
Dame Joan Collins…. Incomparable! She wore this decade the best of them all. I see a lot of this fashion sense coming around again. Feminine but bold and powerful.
Très belle femme s'habille très bien une femme de caractère brune je suis la même coupe je suis brun comme elle le même style de carter mais j'ai pas une femme Alexis Carrington très classe
Aaron Spelling gave Nolan Miller an amazing budget to create a unique outfits for each character not to be worn twice. Well Alexis Carington Colby became the fashion Icon during the 80's. She got the most outrageous and extravagant clothes through out the years of DYNASTY....There's a documentary of the show, check it out.
PungiFungi She did wear a few things more than once but with different hats and/or wigs, you'd have to be obsessed to spot it, and I am. Joan was repeatedly told off for wearing wardrobe to events but I think Nolan loved it!
Yeah, your absolutely right. I was confused with some of the outfits worn that looks familiar, I thought the fabrics are just the same. Well the reason I said that the clothes were just worn once is because Nolan Miller said it in an interview before. actually there's a documentary about Dynasty where I heard him again saying it. It's nice to know that there are still people like us who are obsessed of Dynasty..Well I guess there are million of us out there.. Oh by the way check out the documentary about Dynasty you may also like it... thanks and take care:)
To what I've heard some of Dynasty stars took some of the outfits with them and never returned it. When I do research it, I found out that there are a lot of them were kept in an storage room.but I really don't know where are they now. Maybe dilloninja has the answers.
My only complaint about the show; not enough scenes with Diahann Carroll. As much fun as those rows & catfights with Krystle were to watch, it was really Dominique Devereaux who was truly a match for Alexis. She was sooo gorgeous & sophisticated. Class personified.
In the immortal words of Dominique Devereaux “I don’t sleep in my clothes, nor do I sleep with them! I require a 2 bedroom suite, one for my clothes & one for myself!”
