Today I will be discussing some of Joan Collins favorite beauty products and some of her favorite beauty secrets that I picked up in her vintage beauty book Joan's Way: Looking Good, Feeling Great.

Joan Collins is known for wearing the perfume: Guerlain Shalimar, Guerlain Jicky perfume.
Guerlain Shalimar

Shalimar is the first oriental perfume in history.
L'Eau de Parfum Shalimar is a mythic fragrance with bergamot, iris and vanilla notes; an intense wake with a touch of impertinence, always glowing, embodies skin-caressing with a hint of the forbidden.
Inspired by the passionate love story between an emperor and an Indian princess, Shalimar, which means "temple of love" in Sanskrit, symbolizes the promise of eternal love always. It is a fragrance of desire.
In 1925, the Shalimar bottle designed by Raymond Guerlain won first prize at the Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition. Its curves were inspired by the basins of the famous Shalimar gardens. The fan stopper with its sapphire transparency recalls the garden's eternally gushing water.

Jicky by Guerlain is an Amber Fougere fragrance for women. Jicky was launched in 1889. The nose behind this fragrance is Aime Guerlain. Top notes are Rosemary, Bergamot, Lemon and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Lavender, Tonka Bean, Orris Root, Basil and Jasmine; base notes are Vanilla, Leather, Spices, Benzoin, Sandalwood, Amber and Brazilian Rosewood.

Unlike many actresses Joan’s beauty advice sounds very down to earth and achievable for anyone. She is so right about hands. I have noticed in many movies from all eras that some women look young in the face but have wrinkled old hands. Something I have recently started doing is rubbing a little of the anti aging serum I use on my face at night, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, on my hands as well. Crikey, the difference is astonishing and I noticed it after only one night. It’s amazing stuff.

Joan Collins was absolutely stunning in her day, and she still looks terrific at nearly 90 years old. Ms. Collins also posed for Playboy at 50 years old - one of the very few celebs featured in PB when they were over 40. I always thought that she was cool.

Joan Collins is an interesting survivor type. I would not agree that she became an "icon" in the 1950s for her pink Thunderbird or for anything else in those days. Joan lingered in relative obscurity--a face in the Hollywood crowd that the public sort of glossed over--until Dynasty when she was 48 years old. It was a fascinating turnaround of circumstances. She cut back on work to raise her children and in the decade before Dynasty, her roles became increasingly small. She rebounded in England with The Stud, but didn't make an impression in the U.S. till Dynasty. I really admire the way she plugged away until something big happened for her.

For my hands I deeply moisturize them when I am in bed. I might add lanolin to the cream for extra richness. I wear gloves when washing the dishes. Recently I bought a sunscreen stick from neutrogena and will start rubbing it over the tops of my hands before I go out, because I don’t like the sticky feeling on my palms. I also wear spf driving gloves when I am in my car.

oh i love joan , i actually have a couple of her products i have two blushes , they are beautiful too ! and i use Vaseline on my eyelashes every night and they are long and black every one compliments me when they meet me ! and i am a mature lady , i always use estee lauder but my lashes are always treated with vaseline , oh she has a siamese i have siamese cats all my life , in fact while i am watching you he my lovely boy is wrapping himself round my neck bless him , mr Jacob Black !

Another FABULOUS video, Laura! Isn’t Joan the best!? As a young boy, I fell in love with her as Alexis in “Dynasty” 😄. I used to stay with my Nana on the weekends, and when she would put Dynasty on for us to watch together I would dress up in one of her beautiful old gowns, and prance around in her too-big high heels, pretending I too was Alexis. Her hyper-glamorousness and bitchy one-liners made a lasting impression on me and to this day I’m still drawn to those sorts of characters. I’m sure there are MANY other men of my age who also discovered the joys of drag & dressing up thanks to Joan Collins! Love from Brisbane, Australia Chaq x ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 PS. I have read one of her books and I always wear foundation, especially as I have to dog walk twice a day and gloves are a must as soon as it gets cold. I really admire Joan, definately a very chic lady to aspire to. Excellent vid thank you☺☺

I have one question to you beauty history goddess... what is that champagne gold glitter nail polish you are wearing? I love it! I've been going coo-coo over wanting something like that and was wondering what brand of nail polish that is to get it. I love champagne gold glitter nail polish. 🥰😘 Thank you so much. PS: I've been using your corn starch recipe for my own body powder, and thank you so much for that. Also, huge shout out thank you for showing how to use and get Ponds' cold cream. I'd advise you do further research and get accurate information. Re the role of Cleopatra, Collins was asked to take over the role from Liz Taylor who became sick and ended up in hospital, had a tracheotomy, etc. Collins refused to take on the role. (That's the short of it)

I'm glad she did not get the part of Cleopatra. Elizabeth Taylor was the perfect choice. Also Elizabeth Taylor was way more gorgeous than Joan Collins.
