Jaymes, I corrected your pronunciation of “Mayer” in Metro Goldwyn Mayer in your short but now I need to give you your flowers. There was a prior generation of queens who knew all this information by heart but these days it’s great to see someone younger imparting this info about the classic Hollywood movie queens of yesteryear! Flowers for you!!

To give you an idea of how Bette Davis felt about Joan Crawford: after Joan Crawford left "Charlotte",she was replaced by Olivia DeHavilland. Shortly after production resumed, there was a publicity photo taken on the set where Bette ,Olivia, and the director,Robert Aldrich toasted each other with Coke bottles.

Really enjoyed this Jaymes. Very well done. Love the corner images that flash trough out. Is that Ernie's doing? I'm fascinated by your breadth of knowledge not only about the movies, but the novels they came from. Joan Crawford was a very giving person. A dear friend of hers from the silent movie days was Billy Haines. When Louie B Mayer asked Haines to give up his longtime companion Jimmy Shields, Haines refused. Mayer fired him the spot. Joan had always admired Billy's home, so she had him do her place and used it to showcase his talent as a designer. Mommy Dearest used Billy Haines original designs in the home for shorting. You can still buy Haines's furniture. He created the Hollywood Regency designs that everyone thinks of when they think of "Grand Hollywood. Joan often said that Billy and Jimmy were the happiest married couple in Hollywood. Joan really was a great lady.

Knowledge is power and Ms Mansfield brings it on every iconic episode.💖 May I share, Jaymes is looking gorgeous gorgeous!! That big wig. The soft dewy makeup. Glamorous.😍💐😍 Ms Crawford was an intense woman imo. I mean when she was on screen, she took up every space and you couldn't look away from her. She was talented but there was an edge to her too. That 'feud' with Bette Davis is a thing of legend. There are soo many rumors. Thanks for doing a through job, Jaymes. The wig looks good on you girl!!!🩷🩷 For your consideration: Lucille Ball and Rita Hayworth. Gloria Swanson. Olivia de Havilland. Joan Fontaine.

She made sure her sets were freezing because the lights on set were blazing hot. They didn’t have the kind of lights like we have today- those old lights would really crank out the heat, and for older actresses they’d crank them up to 11. Heavy AC made sure neither they nor their make-up melted while they were on stage in wigs and foundation garments.

Once again, I am so impressed with your knowledge of these classic actresses. Joan's professionalism was the greatest, and I think you yours is as well. Yes, Trog is probably one of the worst movies ever made. I hadn't seen it in decades, so I recently watched it. Even in such a poor film, I was still mesmerized by her performance. Watching her act was as much a thrill as ever. Thank you so much for this, and all your videos! These ladies were the best at their craft, AND SO ARE YOU! 🕊️💖😊🌈

You mentioned the competition between Bette and Joan. I’m finding that in general, Joan’s performances have aged a bit better than Bette’s more theatrical style. I love them both but I’ve sat with people who weren’t aware of Bette’s acting style and it sometimes throws them. They can’t buy it as “real”. 😂

Speaking of “What’s The Matter with Helen”, in my opinion, the best of the Horror Hag genre and directed by a gay director, Curtis Harrington, the hair style Debbie Reynolds had in that movie was based on Jean Harlow. You’ve probably already done Harlow, but if not, that would be a great recreation. Also Joan made a lot of savvy deals after she left Warners where she got a cut of the profits on some of her movies like Baby Jane.

Love the hair! Meanwhile, on the Joan Crawford tip, I had the pleasure of meeting miss Anita Page, one of Joan’s earliest costars. They had their first picture together back in 1925, when both started as extras, anyhow, Anita Page day is august 12th on TCM! They will have show 3 Joan films the “our” films. Btw Anita page was a lovely woman, I kinda got a Norma Desmond vibe from her, but she remembered Joan thoroughly , and even called her some colorful names, good times, they don’t make ‘em like that anymore, also I’m a devout Joan Crawford fan, since I was. 10😊, enough rambling, goodnight

Joan was literally the Hollywood real story of Cinderella, Holywood was the prince, her first film was the ball, her discovery and fame was the glass slipper fitting moment. If I was director I would Joan to Play Catherine the Great. Both Joan and Catrherine was a strong woman who both were kinda could related, They had a rough childhood, they had mother who was kinda nasty. and both had an opportunity to make a name for theirselves. While Bette Davis made a great Elizabeth I, I feel Like Joan would have got an academy award if she had the opportunity to Play Catherine.
