RIP Mary Tyler Moore, Joanie did some bang up job of your theme song! You know you have left a lasting mark, when another epic woman covers a song about you. We will miss you!!
Still love Joan! I still have a bump on my nose from when it got broken slam dancing in the mosh pit at a Joan Jett concert at the Whiskey A GoGo years ago.
This is probably my favorite song ever. I love that she updated it since I grew up with MTM. My 25-year-old daughter was killed a few days ago in a head-on collision. This song, for me, says everything. Her smile did indeed light up the world, and she was just breaking out on her own.
The woman knows how to work a camera. She looks at the camera at key moments in the song and you feel as though she is singing the song right at you. love her.
Yes. Excellent awareness. They used to have a light on the camera light up when it was the "live" one. Joan was probably very good at spotting that light while playing.
She does this in live concerts too. First time I saw her at The Living Room in Providence, Rhode Island in mid/late '80's, she looked right at me for about 5 seconds and then winked before looking away. I melted and from there, Joan Jett has always been my favorite live performer. Went on to see her at least a dozen times... 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Never seen this before. it's perhaps the best Joan Jet ever. I'm both thrilled and sombered by both Dawn's losses below and the loss of my beloved daughter a year ago. The love of others and gifts of music like this this are among the things that get you throw it and make make life enjoyable.
That is the best ass-kicking Letterman Live Performance this south-of-the-equator-bound human being has ever witnessed. Bow down in shame, tonight show orchestra!!!
You gotta love Joan, she doesn't say a word just comes out with guns blazing. Great punk/power pop version of the Sonny Curtis song. Joan's homage to MTM.
Excellent, is all I can say!! This song gets me, "up and going" when feeling negative and/or sluggish..... The extra 'umph' that Joan Jett puts into it, makes it extra special!
Went to a Boston concert, where she opened. Before it, I didn't really get her fanatic fans who showed up with black fingernail polish. She's cool and there is something magnetic about her. Better in concert than recorded. This song was my favorite.
Why is the fact that this is just a little bit slower makes the shivering more intense. Never thought this song would hit me so hard all these years later. I remember this when I first heard it on CD and was like, no way! Played the hell out of it because I thought that this was so awesome. And it is. But for some reason I got here from the end credits of WKRP. That would've been an awesome one for her to cover. But enough of that. I think I will play this for the 4th time now. I'm sure it ain't gonna be the last. Thanks Joan. And whoever wrote the original.
This song was written by Sonny Curtis who was a boyhood friend of Buddy Holly and has been the lead singer and guitarist for the Crickets for 6 decades. He is a legendary songwriter.
Wow Joan you really made me happy when you added Rock N' Roll recipe to this my favorite inspirational theme song. You rock. Baby, please remake Do You Want to Dance by Bobby Freeman. You will get a Platinum record no doubt and it will sell millions of copies and you will earn millions of more dollars! Your music is so energetic! You go Girl!
It seems a consensus that this live version was as good or better than the studio version, and it had more energy, if that's possible. The only thing missing was the power of the studio backing vocals, but the live energy covered that without any problem. I'm guessing that was Paul Shaffer adding the little keyboard lick at the very end. I was very impressed with Joan's vocal live on this video --- her vocal is very professional and spot-on with no letdown.
MTM, thanks to the wonderful body of work you've left behind for future generations, you'll always turn the world on with your smile. You will take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile. Thanks to you there will always be love all around. Yes, you truly made it after all. R.I.P., MTM.
Ahh, good catch. I was wondering what Paul was doing/playing during the performance. That flourish at the end was a clever ref to the show’s ending (and definitely an unJett)
Joan is winking at ME. Cuz she remembers me and Wayne riding around on his BMX in the 80's digging the Blackhearts on the ghetto box in the dirty Shwa.
Who can turn the world on with her smile? Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Well, it's you, girl, and you should know it With each glance and every little movement, you show it Love is all around, no need to waste it You can have the town, why don't you take it? You're gonna make it after all You're gonna make it after all
