Laporta is right we have really good players, overhauling the squad each year isn’t sustainable and Xavi sounded like he had mentally given up before the season even started. Flick injects enthusiasm into the team and the fan base we’re all excited for the new season and it wouldn’t have been so if Xavi stayed, so all in all Laporta made the tough but right decision……can’t wait to see Flick’s team in action 💙❤️

It is unfortunate that Xavi’s time as coach ended this way but, I am OK with Laporta’s explanation. Xavi is a legend at the club and he had won the league the previous year so I can see why he would follow his heart. The challenge with Xavi and any coach at Barca currently is that they have to accept the fact that there isn’t a lot of money to do big transfers so you have to work with the squad you have. If you take the job then don’t go to the media and complain. It is just what it is, it’s going to be an up hill task. Xavi made a big impact; Flick needs to move the project forward.

Xavi's lack of experience clearly showed. I am wondering what else we could have achieved if we had a top level experienced coach.

I remember hearing Xavi staying while at work… it never sit right with me because I thought the club is a joke when a coach could swear he’s never going back to his word just for him to counter that after a 4-2 defeat against a city rival. And I never believed in him in terms of bringing the best in individual players. But I thank Xavi immensely for bringing so many La Masia talents.

Flick needs to bring a better mentality and winning mindset back to Barca. Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen this year showed what can be accomplished even without having a full lineup of superstars. Real Madrid shows what can be done when talented superstars play like they’ll never give up.

Laporte is just class.. I love how he takes accountability and spoke out on his thought process on why he sacked xavi, && this is why I believe the future will be positive. A good sign of leadership. Logics over emotions.

LaPorta hit the nail smack on the head when talking about the team dipping after 60 minutes. It was a little hard to see the overall pattern game to game, but in retrospect we had a lot of single goal wins while playing like crap in the second half. I still wonder what Joao Felix did to get in Xavi's doghouse. When he played he made things happen, and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. And he loves being at Barca. That's a guy I want to keep every time. I am eager to see who Flick wants to keep and go. We currently have a glut of forwards and midfielders, and it is a complete crapshoot as to who he plays at the moment. Fun.

It’s not about getting better players, it’s about the coach and the mentality of the players. Keep in mind Madrid won La liga and The champions league with Militao, Alaba, Courtois on the sidelines. I think Laporta NEVER wanted Xavi to continue. He agreed with Xavi that it was time for him to move on, but he didn't want to be the "bad guy" for pushing a legend out the door, so he pretended that he wanted him to stay to save face in public while being happy he was going. THEN, when Xavi changed his mind, he felt like he couldn't say no or else look like a liar. But, THANK GOD Laporta had the sense to take the heat for changing his mind and do the right thing, bringing n Flick in the end. Força Barça!

Xavi was out of his depth, the signings he wanted (keeping Garcia, renewing Roberto etc) and the direction Xavi wanted for the team was just going to be another failure next season. With all the sacrifices we made to give Xavi what he wanted, the performances were underwhelming to say the least and there was no sign of things changing next season at all. So we can debate about if Laporta handled things right or wrong but alternately I think the decision so sack Xavi at the end was 100% the right one. One thing we can all agree on is that this Barca squad is better than the performances under Xavi suggested. We only Need a CDM and maybe one or two more signings and that’s it. The core of this squad is very good.

I think there’s a little bit more to the story about Xavi and how things went down. I do think that sometimes we tend to think with our hearts, and not our clear minds, and therefore I agree with you, Jamie, that our president should have seen the signs along time ago instead of waiting until the end of the season. In terms of the new campaign, I am very excited, and I am very hopeful with our new coach that we can take our talents to the next level and to encourage our young players to help us round out our team, full hunger and players that want to succeed . We can only go up from here and I am ready.

I used to believe it was the board that approached Xavi to convince him into staying I didn't know it was the other way round. And in that case I don't feel bad about the sacking. We can't have him making such statement and then settling for less when the season unfolds

I think this makes the whole fiasco seem more reasonable. Laporta was okay with Xavi staying if he was willing to work with what he had. So when Xavi went on to say the club needed to change a lot he didn’t see the point in keeping him. While what Xavi said might’ve been true, it’s not what he told Laporta. Obviously the club isn’t able to completely revamp the squad so he wanted someone that was willing to work with the players the club already has with maybe One or Two big signings.

As Barca fan Real Madrid are miles ahead of us hopefully we add to our squad and help the new manager

As much as I love Xavi Laporta was right. We need a Coach who has winning mentality, and Xavi saying to the press that we could struggle facing Real Madrid is a big red flag. One things I know is that flick will suffer in Barca. I'm not optimistic about it in one way. They are even struggling to complete the free signing of Guido Rodríguez..... not to talk of bringing in world class. When flick sees how cruel the Barca job is.... he'll resign himself. If there is one part of football we know flick is poor at.... its defense. He has always relied on individuals to bail him out of it. It worked at Bayern where he had Davies who could do it.... but here in Barca..... I have nothing else to say.

I think at the end Xavi lost the mental battle, you don’t want your manager saying your team is not up to the mark, that’s something that needs to be within the organisation. Xavi was playing it safe, gave too much importance to what the media and fans were thinking. He needs to grow some thick skin and come back to barca. I feel he’s the ideal coach for barca but he needs to be more experienced.

I know a lot of people hate Laporta at the moment but man that guy has an incredible way with words. I'm up for the challenge of dethroning Madrid next season! Força Barça!

As a president you have to do what's right for the club. This is why I respect Florentino Perez. No matter how blunt, disheartened, or shrewd his descisions may be, it's always for the benifit of the club. Whether it's selling Ronaldo, or cutting wages of older players it doesn't matter. This is why people need to give Laporta a break. Yes he did things that really were disrespectful, but at the end of the day he had a club which wants trophies every year and to be competitive in a billion dollar debt, completely ran down. Yes some descisions were taken late or in a wrong manner, but it was always with the best interest of the club.

Laporta omg I will forever respect him for this, I saw a clear heart, honest and nothing wrong said. Laporta's words clear up a lot of questions and help with the exit of Xavi, while I'm still not a fan of how it went down. But I think there is no question that for Barca to win in La Liga they have to play in a manner in which there is no close calls. The leadership and ref's in La Liga do everything they can to hurt Barca and try to keep them down....preseason games can't come soon enough! Looking forward to seeing what's accompished this off serason in terms of making sure our stars stay healthy and youth comes on strong. Though I'm hopng we find a way to play Lewi less because he's a pricey pricey option for someone twilighting their career.

Xavi depends so much on world class signings in other to be competitive; A world class coach develops his players to world class and that's Flick. I believe Laporta knows exactly what he is doing, we need a coach with positive and competitive mindset not one hiding under big signings

WIn or Lose a coach has to be 200% optimistic and instill the same confidence to his players( the grit ,GIRONA has, is 2nd to none ) .... It was being reflected on the pitch time and again... The team needs everyone to be on the same page. Xavi said one thing to laporta, then saying something different in the press conference. Xavi had no confidence in the players we have even tho he said we will count on them. For us to florish everyone has to be in the same state of mind. Laporta made the right decision.

The big turn off this season was we were even struggling against low block teams physically and mentally this accumulated and in big matches we show no character and everything was random, On Flicks arrival I pray that we take every minute serioulsy and destroy low block opponents with ease so that we are high in confidence and on big stage is just matter of small percent of effort needed to get the win. Xavi was always overanimated can't blame that's his nature and pressure but right now for another 3 years or more we need a solid cool headed champion mindest coach glad we got Flick. Jamie, with all due respect, I absolutely disagree with your take that sacking Xavi was a right decision. Remember that Xavi is the person that took a problematic Barca team and lifted them from 9th to 2nd place and won La Liga in his first full season. He is the person that gave us fans the belief that despite all the financial issues, we can still fight for titles. Xavi just needed a good pivot and a left winger for next season to provide better results. And I would argue that the result of this season is not his fault. There were tiny circumstances that had a compound effect in the end. Araujo’s red card against PSG is a good example of that. I don’t believe that Flick will succeed at Barcelona. Sacking Xavi was a bad decision and the team will just stagnate under a new coach trying to adapt to his playing style. Changing a coach every 1-2 seasons will not make a club successful.

Everybody is threatening Xavi now as an enemy, not remembering how he transformed Barcelona from Koeman. Xavi is a legend. As a player and as a manager. He has done an incredibly excellent job. Getting tired at the end but for me he has done more right than wrong.

So what I get from this interview and several reports from the media is that we'll be in the 1:1 rule and we'll have more money from the Nike deal, the lever that Libero didn't pay and something else. Also Cancelo and Felix are staying and the plan is signing a CM and a LW, hopefully Kimmich and Nico Williams but it could be someone else. Cubarsi, Fort, Balde, Gavi, Yamal and Fermín López are key players, Casadó will renew his contract and be promoted, Ansu Fati Mika Faye and Vítor Roque will be gand none of the big names has to go. I'm not sure I buy it, especially that last part because if we have Fort, Koundé, Araújo, Christensen, Iñigo Martínez, Cubarsi, Faye, Cancelo and Balde in the back it's at least one too many and obviously Julian Araújo and Alex Valle can't stay. Then in the middle and the wings there'd be Kimmich, De Jong, Gundogan, Casadó, Gavi, Pedri, Raphinha, Fermín López, Yamal, Ansu Fati, João Félix and Nico Williams, that's 12 people, 2 need to go. I don't know what Laporta is doing but I don't trust him, I trust Deci even less and I think they improvise and they lie all the time. I'll believe all those deals and the 1:1 FFP rule when they're official. And I don't know which players are gonna leave the squad but a few players from that list will have to, I'd say 3 or 4 but at least 2.
