I even remember her from the Ed Sullivan show and how funny she was then. I love seeing the old clips of her and of the Johnny Carson show. Half the stuff they said back then would not be allowed now. It’s great having belly laughs.
@@watching789 You must be 79, and find her humor offensive. LOL George Carlin, Chris Rock are also on my best list.. Go ahead, stick w your Jack Benny, Laurel and Hardy, and Soupy Sales. I just love to laugh at the Very best.

There is not a single young female comedian who approaches the stage presence, audience affinity, timing, and hilarity of this woman. This looks like huge fun, but very few performers could pull this off, and none in the current generation that I've seen.......and all of it done without gross profanity......She masterfully uses the power of suggestion.
That was Joan's comedy in the beginning, bboucharde--funny without profanity or shock value--just consistently great timing and irony. But somewhere in the early 1990s, her act became increasingly raw, uncooth and vulgar--as it became less funny. One of the reasons why I liked Joan in the beginning was because there was a tremendous talent that didn't rely on shock value (or excessive profanity, like Richard Pryor and too many others to name). Likewise, Rodney Dangerfield had a fine and dignified act, and in the 1980s, so did a very funny lady named Wendy Liebman (she never used profanity because her act and timing was a priceless example of great material and unsurpassed comedy). Having known Ms. Rivers since 1987 (because of her work with 'God's Love We Deliver,' where I was a benefactor), gave me a chance to see how genuinely kind and compassionate she was when the cameras weren't rolling. Although I never discussed her excessive profanity and vulgarity that she employed in her recent stage acts when I was invited to her home last year, it always bothered me (in my mind's eye), because she was so much funnier (and ironic) without the use of shock value. In the end, she was murdered by a reckless, starstruck doctor, whose medical license should be permanently revoked--followed by the longest jail sentence. A fatal tragedy of having been cut down in the extended prime of her strong and healthy life!
***** Your're welcome, bboucharde. There were many fine memories that I was fortunate to share over the years with Ms. Rivers. Always the gracious and caring hostess, I never detected a single false moment about her. Off camera, she centered her time, attention and interest on whomever happened to be a guest in her home, or a welcome friend or acquaintance. Therefore, it is so critically important to maintain a personal philosophy of mine that I've been saying for years: The business of life is the acquisition of memories. In the end, that's all that there is. I think of this bit of wisdom frequently as it relates to my life (and my unquiet mind, given the many good friends, family and acquaintances whom have passed on to glory), for whom I can sadly count Joan Rivers as one more tragic and untimely loss. I hope that the new year will bring you a renewed sense of purpose, contentment and faith--as I hope and pray for the very same for me and my close circle of friends, family and loved ones everywhere. Happy New Year. . .
Richard Iritano Richard, I just want to thank you again for sharing your thoughts and perceptions from the times that you spent with Ms. Rivers. Best Wishes, BB
I have seen through Joan Rivers for a while. She is the sweetest, kindest, person. People who become offeded by her, need to know its an act, and it works, and good for her. She is smart, funny, quick.
I'm 16 and I love Joan, I saw her on fashion police and fell in love with her then and I loved her on celebrity apprentice I love watching her do stand up and I was devastated when she passed away because she was a trailblazer and no one will ever fill up her spot on earth she is absolutely a hilarious comedienne and was funnier then most female and male stand up comics R.I.P Joan ❤️
What a joy she was. A hilarious woman, who let it all out and a true original. I can't believe she is gone because she was someone you would expect to be there forever. May she make people laugh wherever she is, and we will never forget this legend. RIP Joan, you will never be forgotten.
New Yorkers are by far the funniest stand-up comics. She has the accent the attitude and is very quick witted. Very intelligent as well and shrewed. :-)
Irish too. George carlin is my goat. I knew joan was a comedian growing up and was the occasional host of carson but never knew she was this funny. I found her as an adult and think she's one of the funniest ever. Definitely on of the heavyweights.
Comedian icon, til the day she died, opened door for female comedians her entire career... she was ahead of her time in so many ways, thats why at the end of ner life ppl finally realized how awesome she was i hate it took that long but i love her... rip joan rivers...
This entire video was absolutely phenomenal. From start to finish, my God, I couldn't stop laughing. I don't know why the "have a stool" just killed me.
I saw her onstage decades ago. Hilarious right up to the end. She knew how to deliver a line and she proved it night after night all her professional life. 😢 Never be another as good
I've heard celebrities comment about Joan's passing and some made the distinction that her comedy became more caustic in the decades that followed her departure from the Tonight Show. On the Tonight Show, she mainly made fun of herself. She had a lot of comedic genius. She did not follow a script entirely. She could do great extemporaneous stuff on the fly - brilliant stuff.
Joan Rivers is so funny and always so kind giving away flowers to the audience.Never been another like her and she was hysterically funny on Fashion Police me and my mum would fall onto the floor laughing everytime.
She was always the top in my book. All the times i would travel to vegas... i always checked to see if she would be there.... Never happen... i missed her show one time by 2 days.... i almost stayed over. I wish now that i had..... All the greats are leaving us now days. so sad... but as we watch moments from the past... we will continue to smile and laugh .... Thank You for that :)
I hate that this is happening to her. Losing two comedy greats, her and Robin Williams, would be so awful. She is truly great and I've always laughed my ass off at her.
Doesn't look good. I think she's brain dead. Needs life support just to breathe. Such a shame. Wednesday before her vocal chord surgery she was FULL of life. She would have lived to see 100. We'll miss her.
DollyAnneBowman I'm sure her grandson would see lots more, and probably not on youtube first. and unless you have seen her, you also have no idea whats going on. relax.
DollyAnneBowman If we could have heard ANYTHING positive - we would have. We have not - therefore, it is what it is. We don't want these things to be true. We pay vigilant attention to the facts which have not been forthcoming. Therefore, we are left with one single conclusion - and it isn't good. We paid attention because we cared. We understand the true outcome because we did pay attention. RIP Joan!
I find it ironic that ALL of you Joan Rivers' haters yet somehow manage to bring your pathetic behinds here and piss on her grave. Joan Rivers is one of the giants of comedy period. One of the few comedians to be on Tonight Show AND Ed Sullivan show. Her comedic timing is impeccable. Delivery awesome. Easily one of the 10 funniest women comediennes ever.
If Mary had a 37 y/o kid, assuming she had that kid at 18, Mary was 55 y/o in this show. That means Mary is 91 y/o today. I wonder if she still has Joan's shoes?
I love Melissa just because of how much I know Joan loved/loves her❤️MISS THIS WOMAN! I was 14 when she passed and I CRIED! Filmed myself reacting to her death and posted on my Instagram😂💔 Thank you Joan Rivers. I MISS YOU SO MUCH I COULD CRY!
Put down paper and have a litter! I remember seeing this when it first aired and laughing hysterically. My Mom thought it was positively disgusting and said she was embarrassed to be a woman after hearing Joan Rivers. She never liked her after that. Oh well, to each his/her own.
"have a stool, Mary..." She's truly great! I'm just researching female Stand-Ups, and right before this one, I watched two consecutive (German) ones who constantly used audience members ... the first one, I thought: "your audience is funnier than you ..." and switched her off. The second one I actually thought: gal, you should pay that woman in the audience!" But of course, she didn't. Ok, I think, for relaxation I'll just watch something of Joan's. And up comes this sparkling generosity! Thrilling!
Aside from her genius one-liners, listen to how conversational her comedy was- especially when speaking to audience members. I think this was her real gift.
No way man, that bitch is still as sharp on stage today as she was 30 years ago, if not sharper. She may not be able to do all the stunts and fits she did back then but she's still hilarious.
I loved joan rivers , she always made me laugh she made me realize that life is a box of Chacolet's life brings you limes you make limenade, wonderful woman a true diva
My best friend's mom, who I've known my entire life, and Joan are so alike in their looks, the way they carry themselves and the sense of humor it's astounding. Momma G has been 29 for 61 years and will find something funny about anything.
She is hilarious, wished her show lasted a lot lot longer. But her decision to quit in support of her husband showed how great a person she is. I wish her the best.
