I got out as a RD2. I loved the job. But since it been re titled to OS. But I also stood QM watches on 201 Foot Cutters. I had a side job on my last 378 as a EW, which I came close putting the Sherman to GQ Combat mode. I picked up a Fire Control Radar locked on us. Lucky it was an US Air Force F 111 doing some training. But when we worked with the Navy, we always ended up embarrassing them.
Love your channel. I too am a CG vet. (Aviation Maintenance Tech) As you mentioned about so many jobs being encompassed in one rate, in the CG if you are an aviation rate you also serve as aircrew. We fix em' and fly em'. As for the matter of does the CG have spec ops? Yes we do. The MSST (Maritime Safety and Security Team) Members go through spec ops training including (but not limited to) parts of Navy SEAL and Army Ranger training. They're like a boarding party on steroids. They do both small boat AND air operations.
@@jimmyhernadez6185 love it man. saw some amazing things and did some fun stuff. joined and I'm still in lol. left Florida and went to washington state and got to see the Pacific Northwest and live that dream.over in the Great Lakes now. these years have had some serious self development and growth.
@@josephmagana4268 that’s awesome man I’m currently a senior in high school graduation is right around the corner and I’m seriously looking at joint the coast guard specifically an ast ik it’s super hard but I rather attempt then never try yk. What would you recommend for another rate as a plan b? I was also looking into the law enforcement side of it
Most operations specialists are actually ashore. When I went to a-school for the rating they told us that we were going to be one of the last classes that would get navigation and plotting. I actually went to a Cutter after a-school. I should also mention that OS's are only attached to 210' and above cutters.
Hey Chris I'm definitely interested in joining the Coast Guard but I'm having trouble on which rate I want to select. It's either between storekeeper because I eventually want to be a financial advisor whenever I become a civilian so working with budgeting and inventory definitely will help or culinary specialist I don't mind cooking but I wouldn't consider myself passionate about it & let's not forget the $20,000 bonus. What are you guys opinions?
I have a couple questions. Q1: What did you to to prepare your body for boot camp? Q2: What are the types of ME'S as you move up and what are their task? Q3: What are all the befits the Coast Guard & and base school provide/ offer to you you before and after service? Q4: what is the most used gun used my an ME?
Yes they are on cutters. We had a ME2, ME1 and a ME Chief on our 378' cutter. They are in charge of the boardings we were all on the boarding team together doing drug interdiction and fishery regulations.
I'm confused. I understand that rates in the Coast Guard take a long ass time to get into after Basic Training, but what exactly do you do that entire time you're waiting? I have plans on becoming an ME (of course lol), so am I just gonna be sitting around on a ship for 2 years until I go to A school or what?
Army 13B here just seeing what my fellow military branches are all about. Nothing but respect for anyone who serves our county. Just a question though. What does rate exactly mean? Sounds like what we would call an MOS?
Andrew Griffin I was Duty GM on our ship. That included weapons accountability, checking the temperature of the ammuntion storages, etc. The GMs on my ship were awesome. If you like guns then GM is for you. It also opens up a lot of tactical unit opportunities for you.
How times have changed. when I served on the CGC Chase (WHEC 718) out of Boston as a GM3 myself and 2 others were responsible for maintaining the 5"/38, torpedoes and tubes, .50's, 20mm's. 40mm's, small arms, sprinkler systems.magazines, hoist. And as you stated we were on boarding crew,as well as shark watch during swim call. Semper Paratus
thx gents, I am currently underway to getting in, I am waiting on MEPs to tell me what they need, then I will be off too MEPs, boot, and then A school. thx again
Not for nothing but you guys look so stoned. Semper High? Not a complaint just an observation from a guy who is stoned, love that 420. Now...As you were.
Apparently from what I heard it is hardest CG job rating as far as the physical requirements go. Pass rate sounds not too high so these guys mentioned in Part 2 that having a backup job rating would be smart.
Nate Steeze Don't tell them about the mips. It will save you time and they'll never find out unless you tell them which will only prolong the process of getting in
