This style of music is basically the 2nd wave of Freestyle. First wave was in the mid to late 80s. Tommy Boy Records is as OG Freestyle as it gets. While there are many good examples of first or second generation Freestyle, one song that really captures everything well is Rockell's cover of In A Dream, originally by Lil Suzy.

@@GunnisonUndercover Well her music was big over here on the east coast of the US. I heard like 3 hits from her playing on club stations growing up… Do You Miss Me, Alittle bit of Ecstasy, and If You Could Read My Mind were all big dance hits

Swing music made a short lived comback in the 90s while 80s Synth made a short comback in the 2000s. Music styles constantly make combats before fading away again.

Tommy Boy Records gave a lot of unknown upcoming artists the chance to record their music. Not a lot of record companies would take freestyle or house music artists back then. Great jam!!!!
