The horse can run and would be at Churchill if Zedan wasn’t so stubborn…thinking this is now a restricted race because Amir didn’t transfer is stupid

Thank you for another week of TDN Writers Room. Best of riding to Keith Asmussen in the Derby and the Oaks and beyond. Fun to see youthful enthusiasm and love for the horses. Churchill Downs attorneys never disappoint with their glib and condescending and ludicrous statements. Their corporate ego is always on display. The worst of having Derby Fever is keeping a horse in the race that is not served well being there. I must admit, though, that Zedan and Churchill could have done better by not using their athletic comparisons and assertions they could not prove with data. Please discuss on the merits of the under tack speed breezes in the two year old sales. No one has convinced me that they are necessary for anything but increasing the sale profits for these youngsters. One gruesome death is one too many and I did see the video and the clips. Not even the euthanasia was a good death. Best to you and yours and the horses and jockeys.

If it's a restricted race because Bob Baffert is disqualified, then what about the previous two Kentucky Derbys? Are they restricted as well? Does CDI not have the right to ban participants? Are participants with exceptional horses not banable?

I grew up playing Gameboy games on the third floor of Lone Star Park with Keith and his brother Eric. If his dad didn’t exist, my dad would have a couple more training titles at LSP. Awesome to see how him and his brother have grown and progressed as young men.

Sounds like things are so litigious lately and everybody is greedy/hating!. So sad to not be able to bet in New Mexico. Wishing for non-greedy organizations and hurting local people betting on horses for fun. Get over it people. Dont be greedy and support the horses, and riders NM!!

Uncle Cash, was pretty good 😊and i use to here your dad put 200.00 to win place and show on his horses. Lone star park 90s until 2010.

I have written this and said this [ from the days at Hollywood Park with than owner Marjorie Everett the stewards had a list of all trainers that they wanted to mess with and Baffert was one of them and it was messed up how easy it was for them to fail a drug test.] It was other tracks too that messed with Baffert and i wrote this to Horse Racing Nation and they took down what I wrote and the same with other racing news outlets they did the same

THE RULE SAYS BOB BAFFERT IS NOT ALLOWED TO RUN INT KY DERBY. SO WHY DON'T YOU MOVE YOUR HORSES TO ANOTHER TRAINER???

This year Churchill Downs Moved UP the date to change trainers to Jan 29th. That was well before any horses could have done much if any qualifying, and last year they had the ability to stay with Bob until very close to the Derby, then transfer. So they could have at least gotten most of their training and qualifying points under him, had those rules HELD. Everyone with a horse under Bob, stuck with him and told CDI to go you know where... He has probably the best filly in the nation who also can't run in the oaks, and a better horse than Muth.

THE DERBY people changed the rules. They decided everyone had to move to new trainers in Jan. That wasn't so last year. They could remain with Bob, train an get qualified until much later in the racing calender. A huge group of owners of horses. Not just Zendon, refused to switch to new trainers. All stood firm, including possibly the best filling in the nation.

@@BetsyAmos DANG!!! SO MANY RULES/RED TAPE...I THOUGHT YOU COULD CHANGE TRAINERS ANY TIME YOU FELT LIKE IT. OH WELL...WHEN CHURCHILL ANNOUNCED BOB BAFFERT WAS OUT ANOTHER YEAR...THE OWNER CONCERNED SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CHANGED TRAINER...GOING TO COURT IS COSTING HIM $$$ AND WON'T GET ANYWHERE.

@@georgepimentel3072 Wrong. The owners who stuck by Baffert know that Baffert had done nothing wrong. The drug that was found in Medina Spirit's sample was an approved drug except on race day and it was in a salve where it was not observed since the salve was advertised for a skin rash, not for a benefit to a horse in a race. The amount of it was so insignificant it could have had no effect. Medina Spirit proved his value and ability by winning two more races before finishing second to the Horse of the Year in the BCC and ahead of the "Three Year Old Champion." This was the second time Medina Spirit had beaten the so-called Three Year Old Champion.

All you guys on the panel got the Derby fever . Its the BIGGEST HORSE RACE IN AMERICA WHERE TRAINERS, JOCKEYS, OWNERS GROOMS, PUNTERS EVEN THE NEWS MEDIA FEATURED IT TOO. LOTS OF TRAINER CHEAT BUT BAFFERT GOT THE WORST RECORD DOPE HORSES IN THE HISTORY OF RACING IN THE USA.

Nope. Baffert does not have the worst record even though he has had the most success and probably among the most horses to ever run in big time races. Where is your evidence he has the most record. You wrote it and that means the burden of proof is on you. There is NO EVIDENCE whatsoever that any of his horses have benefited from doping and the new standards detect drugs that may have come from incidental contact. They are in such minute amounts detected that they could have no positive impact and many of them could have a negative effect. Take the case of Justify who tested positive for scopolamine between the Santa Anita Derby and the Kentucky Derby. Investigation showed that a wild plant called jimson weed was the source and another half dozen horses were affected. Jimson weed grows in fields and is sometimes not noticed as machinery is used which quickly cuts the plants. It could only have harmed Justify, not helped him.

@@MatthewWoodruff-cm7hl i dont care what people want. It is a business and if someone is cheating/stealing money from those investing in bets, they need to be GONE. They knew Baffert wasn't welcome at CD, they could've changed trainers. Baffert has cost me over $20k and others i know much more than that. There is NO room in any business for cheats or thieves. Period

@@MatthewWoodruff-cm7hl go back and look at Baffert face when walks thru the tunnel with his wife after MS won the derby. I knew right then for a fact that he juiced that horse. He had that look like, i thought he would hit the board, not win. He knew he was caught. No time for it. Bye bye forever

It's reality ; Baffert as a trainer have the best record winning big race and he also got the Worst Record as a DOPE trainer in the history of horse racing in USA. Any one of you guys can name a trainer in USA who have more dope horses than Baffert ?
