Thank you for mentioning the imprisonment of red soldiers at 44:30. My wife's grandfather was one of those prisoners. He was taken as a POW by the Nazis, and although he was Jewish, his blonde hair and blue eyes allowed him to pretend he wasn't, and survive. After 3 years, he was liberated from the camp but was then sent to a gulag for 10 years until the death of Stalin...something about being a traitor for not dying in the war. He lived until 91, always a smile on his face. The man was tough as nails.
The spectrum of what Russia considered "betrayal" in WWII was as broad as the day is long. You can see its remnants today in Putin's hunting and killing of former soviet spies.
TRUTH! Too many people are unaware of how paranoid Stalin was. We of course now have his correspondence records where he mentions the soviet people cannot trust the Red Army POW's because they have now seen the "western spoils" and have now become one of the "bourgeois". Now historians call this the 1st peek behind the Iron Curtain, because at the time of the conference, which signed over the return of RA POWs, the allied leaders were informed RA soldiers were pleading to remain because they would killed.
Papa Stalin always used to say: "There are no Soviet prisoners of war, only traitors" The soldiers knew that surviving enemy imprisonment wont make their lifes any better and they most likely will end up beeing executed or working in a gulag in the siberian ice. Even decades after Stalins death these people were still considered second class veterans and in general treated as traitors.
@DJ Xistential dude that is disgusting. By saying this you are just as bad as the nazis. And to have the nerve to write this on a jordan peterson podcast. Disgusting
I worked with a woman from Bosnia in a bakery many years ago. She told me about sneaking into harvested potato fields across from her home. Her best friend was by her side. She told me, “one minute I was taking to my friend, we were laughing - and the next, she was gone.” Her friend had stepped on a mine that the soldiers had buried in the fields after harvesting was finished. She told me, “It was life, and that’s how life was there. So now I am here.” How I wish those voices of past and present experience could be louder than the ignorant shouts of today.
@@anthonykaiser974 Makes sense, we in Croatia had a lot of them to deal with as well. Btw, never call Yugoslav wars civil wars in front of Balkan people if you don't want a heated explanation how it was for independence (or preserving Yugoslavia, if you're talking to a Serb) :P
In Kosovo Albanians were not allowed to give birth in the same hospitals as serbs In fact in some towns and villages serbain soldiers would hide on the mountainside and sniper civilians in the town or shell them. After Bosnia i woukd say Kosovo was the worst affected.
Knowing that there are warriors like Jocko who are willing to die in defense of Western values, and thinkers like Jordan Peterson who are willing to articulate their importance to the layman gives me tremendous peace.
Unfortunately, Peterson lacks the vision to make the connection to current events, made evident by his decision to line up for an experimental medical procedure. How can someone so well versed in the evils and atrocities of human history not make the connection? If you're in it even the most learned can miss the forest for the trees. Requires outside perspective.
@@craigmathis5856 Remind me where Nietzsche wrote about the American military doing defense contracting with Israel. Also, try not to be a nihilistic prick.
If I get married JP will have full privileges in my home, I will not hide my wife from such a marvel! Someone needs to make this man a crown of diamonds and take pictures of him with it on for GQ! Yes yes it will be most marvelous its time he was photoed in a crown you see!
I watched all three of these Jocko/Peterson podcasts consecutively over the last week or so. both of these men come from very different back grounds, but have basically came to the same moral conclusions about life. When a really smart tough guy and a really tough smart guy come together to brainstorm!!!!!!!!!!! chilling, thrilling, life changing!!!!!
@@chitterlingsrtasty We need Men like these Men who Speak Up and use their Voice as a Platform to confront what’s going on in America /World these days.
@@matheusaguiar2736 yeah. The western mind more specifically. Of course, it applies everywhere. But the soviets really did some work on destroying the West.
Newbport I think it’s because the values and ethic that hold the west up are under attack. The culture is showing all the signs of early ussr and maoist doctrine. Kangaroo courts, citizen mob justice. Etc.
Time is the most valuable asset that you have and two hours of listening to JP and Jocko is one of the highest return on assets that you can experience! Merry Christmas everyone!
I’ve recently realized time is NOT the most valuable asset. Character is. Spending serious time and effort developing strong character will change the course of your life.
@@adamb8317 you say that time is not the most valuable, character is, then mention spending “time” to build character , how you spend your time is very important
50:35 - 53:50 Jordan peterson had me so captivated in his explanation here, and made me get what he was saying so perfectly. You can see why he is truly suited to the profession of a teacher/lecturer
You're a castrated Monk who's wanting his genitals back? GOOD. Gio get your genitals back. Be a man! When you finally get them back sew them back on! That's what men do! .... Jesus Jocko started off rough there Jesus Jesus jocko jocko
Although the topics discussed here are similar to many of Peterson's discussions, Jocko is able to draw out new lines of thinking and get deeper into Jordan's head space than most of Peterson's interviewers or interlocutors. Jordan brings out the best of Jocko, too. One thing that makes this conversation great is that they have such different backgrounds but they are both intellectually rigorous and their goals are incredibly closely aligned; so we get a mind-meld that is very interesting and satisfying to watch.
I know it doesnt seem like much, but the fact this episode has 400k views, and not 7 thousand as I expected given the brilliance of the content, is satisfying enough for me. Thank you for inviting JP again.
Absolutely it just goes to show what happens when corruption stops feigning to care and pulls back the curtain to be obnoxiously in the public face, totally unchecked or even openly supported by those who could care less about empirical & historical facts, regardless of sociopolitical or legal norms while the public outcry reaches a fevered pitch.
Jocko, please make Peterson a monthly appearance. He drives home all of your real world experiences from a psychological/historical/religious context that is so enlightening and addicting. I know he's a busy guy, but I'm sure you could make him an offer he couldn't refuse
Joe T lol. “Make Peterson......” sure, those that sub and love Jocko are here because we admire his remarkable makeup, but on a broader scale, Dr Peterson is the most consequential thinker that’s been born in the last 50 years. He’s a world wide icon now. Not to mention between his Patreon and his trans continental tour, is making $50 million a year (every penny deserved). In other words, he’s doing Jocko a favor being on the podcast. Be grateful he’s appeared frequently.
Goggins talks _a lot_ about Hell Week. Jocko talks about how Hell Week was a joke, and that people that constantly harp about Hell Week probably are too [more or less: not a direct quote from Jocko, but if you listen to a lot of his Q & A regarding Hell Week, you're aware of his feelings about it. He found it extremely easy and said it's a joke compared to other training they do. If I remember right, I think he said workups were way harder than BUD/S / Hell Week]. Have you heard Goggins talk about his reputation in the Teams? He was apparently extremely polarizing. A lot of Jocko's lessons explicitly talk about not being polarizing. In a Facebook or Instagram live, he [Jocko] said something along the lines of, "Goggins is a great athlete, and he had a life-story interview with Rogan, so I don't think there's anything to talk about." Not an exact quote, but that's its essence. Jocko is aware of David Goggins-I _guarantee_ there's more to why he hasn't had him on. Maybe it's related to Goggins' Teams reputation. Another awesome guest would be Pat McNamara, or get Big Tony back on!
Wow the universe lined up because I listened to the other 2 episodes with you and JP yesterday and boom part three is out, Thanks for being a beast y'all two! I worked out hard today, cleaned my room, and ate badass. God bless.
As a former Communist, former member of Communist Party of Canada... The amount of pure ignorance I had as a teen up till I was 20. I always thought I'd be a benevolent leader, I would do this right because I'm a righteous person. How naive I was, glad I found JP when I did and others such as Dave Rubin and Sargon of Akkad. Reading of Voltaire, Gulag Archipelago, John Locke and such.
Hey there. We're happy you recovered! But as JP says, it's up to us to change the world and stabilize the state. Canada has a long way to go since we started down this path in 2015!
It’s really scary that we had our own little taste of this when people would call the police on their neighbors for breaking lockdown rules during the pandemic. And what’s even scarier is that I don’t feel like anybody realized just what that leads to.
Next time Jordan is on it’d be cool to have questions submitted by listeners so the conversation can target more specific situations. Anyways great podcast regardless!
"These people... there only as good as the world allows them to be, youll see ill show ya, when the chips are down, these civilized people....they'll eat each other..."
Jocko seems to bring out the best in Peterson in a way the other interviewers don't. Not that Peterson is ever bad to listen to, but he hits the nail on the head every time talking to Jocko.
51:14 That's what happened to my grandfather's family. We live at the borders of Russia ( in Lithuania ). When he was 7 yrs old, some villigers that were doing poorly, full of envy, because of my grandad's father success, reported him to politicians. 3 months later, whole family ended in sybiria forests. And that intro... Thank you guys.
I truly enjoy when Dr. Peterson and you get together. You two communicate so well. Kindred spirits? Soul brothers? Something. It just works. Glad that Echo Charles got in there on the last quarter. If Dr. Peterson does the audiobook of "The Gulag Archipelago", Jocko, you should do the foreword. That would be EPIC. Carry on, gentlemen.
Bedtime with Jocko Willink on BBC children's channel: Jocko: After devouring the dead human flesh... the purified left over bodies of tortured men were collecting in the corner of the room.....
Anyone who believes in socialism or communism needs to read that book otherwise they don't know what they're talking about. The reason communism or socialism "hasn't been done right" is simply because it isn't actually achievable. Which is why we should not aim for it.
Great conversation and perspectives. Actually read day in the life of Ivan Denisovich as a junior high student - will have to check out Gulag archipelago.
I admire p.peterson fellow Canadian , this's podcast hits home for me. On a personal level: my grand father served in the German army and was captured after Stalingrad he survived 4 yrs his release as a pow was nothing short of a miracle ,I believed his very few a counts to me about his experience ,when I decided to inlist in the Canadian military,my opa sat me down and told essentially his experience of what any one of us is capable of....I changed my mind ,and decided to serve my fellow man in other capacities thank you🇨🇦
As I listened to the intro of this episode, I thought of several "peers" and others in my age group who are proud socialists. Everytime they mouth off I am reminded of this and similar works and am filled with dread and rage.
The line that really stood out to me from The Archipelago was when he described one of the camps that were just burying the dead naked in the dirt. An official was buried in a wooden coffin and the island's inmates were impressed. This led to the sign "Work well and you too can be buried in a wooden coffin."
Jocko and Peterson showing the world that book clubs are actually a pretty great. Thank you guys for re-igniting my thirst for knowledge through reading
tank you sr. for your services, i'm pride of show it, absolutely free... it's the key of all things that all of us want, DISCIPLINE, and you give us free.
I remember Jordan saying that people in hard manual labor jobs are often pretty funny b/c that's the only way they can make work not completely miserable. I'm one of the people that prefers jobs like that b/c I like working hard, but I'm still pretty introverted and recently took JP's understand myself quiz. He even quoted the results of low extraversion in one of these episodes I think. I definitely keep to myself more and focus on work. I don't give a fuck about cracking jokes. I feel some of my coworkers just assume I'm shy or rude. Not really posting for advice b/c I have no insecurities with my introversion anymore; I'm not gonna talk just to fill empty space with words. Just wanted to share.
You're at the very least aware of the social dynamic you exist in and am aware of what you should provide into it to participate. Not every enlightenment results in fundamental change. Sometimes it just helps you survive.
This is my first of your podcasts sir, and I'd like to say, this is amazing. You now have a new subscriber and I'll be consuming all of this podcast. Thank you for your amazing work, and please keep up the awesome.
Dr.Peterson and Jocko blow my mind in this podcast. Amazing minds... such thought provoking dilemmas and ethics/values not only from within ourselves but each other and history, personality/nurture and nature, race and social class.
A book series I enjoy is by Steven Erikson. It features a military unit by the name of the Bridgeburners. In this unit, bad officers, that generally got there by nepotism or wealth, generally die with a knife in the back. The soldiers reasoned better one might get caught and hung, than a bad commander getting them all wiped out. Fantasy setting, does a good job of integrating mages with warfare, and the series of books is 10 deep, with the largest being 1.2k pages.
Playing the game is equivolent to ...being faithful in the little things will make you trusted to be faithful in the big things. It's showing humility and strength of character, it's washing feet being a leader.
