Been obsessing over the 80s the last few months, Jody Watley is beautiful, I follow her on Instagram. I'm stuck in 20th century Black pop culture of the 70s, 80s, and 90s!
@@estellacohen7122On my part, it's a 2021 Howard Hewett interview on the VladTV RU-vid channel that I've just been watching that reminded me of this great jam by Jody Watley. Regards, Michael M. Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 3rd March 2024.
Jody was verrrry influential and isn’t given nearly enough credit. Her music and videos were fresh and new, and she ruled the charts with every single from 87-90.
She was first 'discovered' as a Soul Train dancer and then reappeared on that very same show (RIP & thank you Don Cornelius) as a lead member of the group Shalamar. 🕺🪩💃🙏✨
I love this song! When I hear that melody at the start, I can close my eyes and be immediately taken back to such good memories and happy times in the 80s. The way this video uses every 80s technique is awesome. The neon colors and color blocking, satin sheets, use of light and shadow, it's so great. Not forgetting Jody and her natural beauty. She sang about taking back her power back long before the wannabes of today.
taylor dayne is a very talented singer and she has this magical voice and lyrics that i love💖her songs will never be forgotten in this word. since when have you been listening to Taylor's songs?
When it comes on at Starbucks, we jam out! All the young kids always want it on the 80s station and they play this! Love me some Jody any day of the week!
The 80s were definitely a diverse decade of music for me. I could listen to this, then hop to Luther, thug it out with some NWA, break dance to some Curtis Blow, then jam to the Phil Collins and Cyndi Lauper and Pat Benatar all on the same mixed tape!! I just want it back!! BIG TEARS OF NOSTALGIA!!!😭😭😭😭😭
That's exactly how it was! Top 40 radio in the 80's had a diversity I haven't heard before or since. You could turn on the radio and hear R&B, funk, early hip-hop, new wave, punk and post-punk, hard rock, metal, 2nd wave ska, reggae, country rock, blues, folk, house, 50's and 60's revivalism, college rock, sophisticated pop like Sade, Latin freestyle, world music, and a lot more...all in the same programming block. I can't imagine turning on the radio today and hearing Jody Watley, Duran Duran, Sade, Eddy Grant, George Michael, and Janet Jackson back to back, but in the 80's that kind of thing happened all the time!
Hmm.. Beyonce. Luther. Michael. Diana. Teddy Pendergast. Patti LaBelle. Bobby Brown. Teddy Riley.. I can go on forever naming artists whose careers blew up after going solo.
@crow woman1 Guess what? You can't contour those type of cheekbones and the eyes come with the package. You can't tolerate someone giving another woman a compliment? Damn!

Elsewhere on RU-vid, yesterday, 2nd March 2024, I saw a comment by a guy stating that "The 1980s should be made a tourist destination"🙂 Regards, Michael M. Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 3rd March 2024.
This song was up against the holy trinity of music - Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston at the 1988 Sout Train Music Awards. That is truly a feat in itself - not many can say that 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love this era. So nice to see the woman we're not all into pumped up asses & fake boobs. We were comfy as is. And some of the 80's Divas look good as hell compared to this fake Barbies we have now
Moby Dick I saw her at a music convention, 1st thing in the a.m. (before "business" and seminars), getting breakfast, no makeup…STiLL very pretty. When did YOU see her?
fjohnson747 …you might need a new gig, bc comedy is obviously NOT your thing. *smh* …and I'll ask YOU the same question: "When did YOU see her" (face to face, and not on TV, or at a concert venue)?"
JW just pretty all around, period. She could wear a Nia long, a Halle berry, damn.. she could do big hair, big curls, long straight, big afro, small afro or even shaved and that face still will look heavenly fine
This should be required viewing for new female singers. They need to learn there is a difference between a sexy video, which is what this is, and a sex video. Plus talent. Gotta have a whole of talent like Jody does.

I bet that was so cute! I was 15 when this came out. I had one station on my car stereo (yes, I was driving illegally) and use to blast this on my 1 speaker
No!!! She wasn’t underrated. She was DaBomb!!! She got her Grammy, toured the globe and slayed!!! She did her thing and had an outstanding run during that era.
,,, is that the only thing you all know how to say is that somebody is underrated? Can you get a new line already that is literally all you people post and don't know what you're talkin about! Get a new word!!!!!!!!!
Jody was a first class dancer on Soul Train back before she started her singing career with Shalamar. Her style of dress was often copied by Madonna and others.
pink lady I thought Jody copied Madonna in fact she wore bustiers like Madonna did. In fact Jody was called the black Madonna I hope you will respond to this post
@@sherryhannah498 Exactly! Madonna already had that style in 1983-1985. People be rewriting history but a quick google search can fix that! Look it UP!
