You know.. George is 73 as I'm writing this. His status as a pioneer and legend of rock & roll is untouchable, and he's gifted us with music that will last the test of time. But I'm more grateful for the fact that, after such a hard working career, he's been able to reach his 70's and enjoy them. Far too many great entertainers, not just musicians, die far too early. I often feel guilty that so many men and women spent their strongest years working to entertain us, sacrificing time with family (or having a family at all) and the regular perks of life we enjoy, only to pass away at 40, 50, 60 - before they ever got to slow down and start prioritizing themselves before their fans. Thank you, George and Joe, as well as your bands!
Thanks for that. His real age was like not a thought but confirming 72' just adds so much more respect to an Icon. Because .... You know when I drink alone...I prefer to be by myself. One Bourbon...One Scotch and One Beer.
Happy 72nd Birthday George Lawrence Thorogood. February 24, 1950 Wilmington, DE.. Many, many more George Lawrence I'll never forget seeing George for the first time opening for The Stones in Boulder in 81'..

First time I saw George was in Boulder at Folsom Field in 1981. He was so good, I begged my sister to take me back to see him the next day as he was on the same ticket as the Stones and Heart. Just saw him in KCMO a few weeks ago, still rocking hard!!
@Joe Bonamassa Thank you for your welcome reply..it might be time for you and George to get your bandmates together and head out on tour and hit the studios to make some bluesy R&R memories!
What I dig is how Joe stepped back and let George have the stage. To me that showed a lot of respect to him. He wasn't going to let his ego upstage George. That makes me respect and appreciate him that much more.
His entrance was Legendary ! Coming on in those average clothes, bandanna and then saying to The younger boys: I Play Loud and I Play Fast......... So try and keep up...to this Old Man!
That's "Lonesome George" for you.... Rock legend, and blues pioneer. He's all or nothing. He's either wide open, or he's not playing. Got a slew of memories, attached to his music... all of them fantastic.
i worked as a roadie in 94 or 95 and George played our State Fair venue. 2nd song the power was cut and a city official came to the stage and told him that he was violating the city's (Salem, Oregon) decibel ordinance. George just yelled 'how much is the fine?'. George just yelled "cut a check and get this idiot off my stage. oh and turn this up, if we're paying the full amount we're getting our money's worth". I don't recall the amount but it was several thousand dollars.
I saw him in concert several times, he was the best! Talk about a good, awesome time I had. We even got up front! Dancing having the best time ever! Thank you George!!
Living in St. Louis for 63 years I had many opportunities to see Chuck live. He played once a month down on the Loop at the Blueberry Hill Bar in the Duck Room. It was always a blast!
Yeah the things its bringing out. Your comment instantly gave me a vision of Chuck down low, jammin the guitar while doing his hop with the guitar to the side. She told me ...it was my dinga ling.
@@shawnfreeoftyranny8849 Yep, named the room at the bar after his duck walk. His daughter had his casket lid made to hold his red hollow body electric guitar. Who says, "you can't take it with you."
St.Louis, the Loop, Blueberry Hill Bar, the Duck Room. Now that, my friend, is rock n roll. It was probably thick with cigarette and pot smoke hanging in the air. God, I’d have love to been there.
George is The MAN. My future wife and I saw him play at a movie theater turned concert venue in Norman, OK. What an Entertainer, with a capital E. It was like going to church, with Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley as Deacons.
Actually how could I forget he opened for the stones Philly jfk stadium 81(?)...thats the 1st time I saw him...journey opened too lol they got booed, George got called back for an encore! I was teenager
He didn't open for the heart and rolling stones as much as stole a boulder show from them? Got lost in boulder walked around all night! Destroyers added a saxophone and made all the diff. Love ya George.
I enjoyed George in Haggerstown MD. in the early 80's he was powerful and endearing. He would always mix well with the crowd and give his full for his fans.
George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers as I remember them in the 70's. He still sound amazing!! Some of the old-timers have really suffered from strain.
I saw GT at UCSB in 1980 with my Cal Poly SLO buddies… What a show… They rocked out for hours… Every one of those guys in the Destroyers were crazy good… Rock and Roll Rhythm and Blues…
Always liked George...listen to all his early live concerts with my earphones on. Last November he came to town..(Tri-cities, Wa) and I had tickets...a band member got sick (damn Covid) and they canceled the show. I'm 80, probably never get to see my "quitar god" 😮💨
George thorogood will always be my favorite guitarist I remember on his bad to the Bone tour in Akron Ohio I was wearing a white dress and looking fine on the second tier of the Jar arena ready to jump down on him and he looked at me and gave me the finger to come on down because they had to leave the stage underneath where I was sitting Security had to hold me back oh if I only would have made it to that first floor...... I LOVE YOU GEORGIE PORGIE
Saw him in 1984 at Capital Theater in Jersey. It happened to be an MTV filmed concert. The acoustics in the Capital were awesome & Loud. He had a slew of guests John Hammond, Elvin Bishop, Albert Collins, & Willie Dixon…..encore with Johnny Lee Hooker….Incredible
George is the shit! I’ve been a fan since the first time I saw the video for bad to the bone. Then I bought every album before that one and many after that one. Saw him 4 times, once Elvin Bishop opened for him and also Big head Todd did as well. Great shows!
@@jamesgibson5876 When Elvin Bishop opened for George, Elvin brought a girl up on stage from the audience. The girl was a year behind me in high school and I knew her pretty well. He put his guitar on her and helped her play some chords, it was really cool. After the concert the group I was with went down to this little college bar called “Ellas” for a few beers. Elvins band showed up there and I drank beer with the saxophone player. It was really cool!
I saw George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers at Live Aid in Philadelphia back in 1985. I was 16 or 17. I thought they were Great. George can play a mean Guitar!
Saw him playing All over the country! Last time with Johnny Winter! At the Illinois state fair in 87. Still got it! Joe's playing that Les Paul standard.
George playing here in Dunedin New Zealand October 20, 2022. Am so looking forward to seeing him again but would love to see Joe as well. Last time George played in Dunedin was with the late great Joe Cocker. EX++++++++++
saw george play outside a few years ago in the fall and even though it was like 40 degrees out, george rocked the crap out of the place... even took a request from the audience and rocked it too....
I seen George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers play at Expo 86 in Vancouver. He played for 3 hours by far the best concert I've been to. Even Prince Charles and Princess Diana were there. The venue held 1500 people. It was just perfect and the sound was unmistakable George Thorogood. Good old Marshall amps and glass tubes 🎙🎸🎷🎸🎼🎛🥁🎺🎛🎙🍻🍻🇨🇦
Really super cool rock 'n' roll... kudos to you all... I'll swing the jive-dance leg back seat change step, back seat change step... kick place change step, kick... with Joe, George and Crew...this is mega, it sweeps, love it
I never had the pleasure of seeing George but I know more than one person that had the chance to not only see him live but got to hang out with the legend. From the stories I heard George was not only a great performer and guitarist he was a great story teller and a very funny man. I heard this from multiple people. One very special girl from Deleware and hung out on many occasions after shows. Actually talked to Pierre Robert at a show and we got on the subject of Lonsome George. Anyone I ever talked tk who had the pleasure of seeing and knowing George only great things to say. Very generous and fun guy to be around.
Thank you so much for sharing your post. Many travels & concert tickets in the past to see GT. Shows kept getting shorter & shorter. But still no regrets. A real rocker!
@@unclewillie1866 good morning from LA to you Uncle Willie, nice to hear from you. I hope you don’t mind me writing you sir. I’m looking for a new friendship Ok😊
@@mikeg.9238 I saw Ted Nugent at a small venue about ten years ago..a lot of the audience were turned off by his political rantings between songs...I didn't pay to hear Ted bash Obama..just play Cat Scratch Fever and leave the heavy thinking at the door.
@@thomasmurphy9348 Also it really sucks that politics has infected every part of society now. Wasn't like this when i first started going to concerts 40 years ago. It's actually sickening , there's no escape anymore...
funny interview long time ago asking him about practicing scales and stuff and he was like, i dont do any of that. i dont even like one in the dressing room because i keep kicking it over when i cross a leg or something. lol i thought, wow, hes real dedicated huh. lol now i get it. he is just too cool for the room so, hes cool with or without the guitar sorta thing. lol good ol george. he rocks it
Had tix to see Joe this past march in Knoxville and then got a cancer diagnosis and placed on chemo. Missing that concert is what REALLY chapped my ass. Finally get the chance to see him in concert and fate gives me the 'Ol "F" you finger
Cat stevens 1970s nyc George opens for cat stevens rocks the house. Everybody is dancing, place is jumping. Less then a hour into cat stevens set. Half the place leaves, the other half is sleeping seriously was crazy.
So this guy has been in the rock and roll business for something like 50 years and you think he’s just average as a guitar player. Well, that would be fine if his guitar playing was all he has going for him. If you read the other comments on here from people who have actually seen him live, you’d see there is more to his performances than just guitar playing.
