I love hearing Joe talk about what he does. He's always so passionate and detailed when he gives information.

If ONLY I had the money to take Dave's Blackbird course... Seeing Dave mix from scratch and explain what he's hearing and why he's making the mixing decisions that he is would be a priceless experience to have.

The most important part about the industy is being involved. They are giving great talking points and are talking about the things that most never do like thought process and inspiration instead of just "do this and put this microphone here." Whats important is that we get involved in the community of audio to help it grow. RU-vid isnt going to teach you how to mix. There's books and multi tracks online for you to find your own sound.

Closest to CLA mixes I heard was Raz Klinghoffer's, if youre lookng to mix your song, that's your guy...

I appreciate all these great vids but, is it me or have they more and more got to talking more about who the mixer/producer has worked with and anecdotes rather than the in detail and inspiring technical advice they used to get out of the star guests? Seems the past 5-10 episodes have been that way. Anyone else feeling that? Either way thanks and keep up the good work Dave and Co.

Agreed. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels this way. Sure, these episodes are great, always great to hear from industry pros and their experiences, but I find that there are less and less info or tips which you could possibly apply to your own projects.

I agree, and I'm sure they will see this and respond because its about the community. i think we all want detailed information about exact methods and reasons why they came to that method. i think all of us a trying and failing methods over and over to try to understand how the tools react, it would be very helpful to hear people have tried and failed for certain reasons so we don't have to go down the dead end path. i don't want to hear follow your dreams every episode. The best episode was with Bill Horn who gave great and exact info with styles like frequency trading and side chain bass management. we are missing a big opportunity to have all these pros talk for an hour each week but not provide useful information. Pensados place will have support for a long time but i think we should let them know they are drifting off track.

SirAudio1 yep! I used to watch these episodes and felt fired up and empowered afterwards to go try new things or even feeling confident because some method I was already using was explained and liked by a pro-producer, I either learned new stuff or validated that I was already heading in the right direction. It was always interesting either way as you'd hear the guest explaining and talking just how we think when we are trying to mix, it was both useful and inspiring. I have to skip large parts of these recent uploads as they really go way off track into, as you say, 'follow your dreams' and other stuff which isn't really applicable to many of us already following our dreams and doing it all ourselves. We just want to make better mixes so let us have those cool bits of info and techniques back that expanded our mixing ideas and let us know we were heading in the right direction. I can't blame the guests, Dave just isn't asking them the right kind of questions any more and I have no idea why. Dave??

well since were speaking our minds.. can I add this.. I been watching tons of this type of vids being a long time engineer I still believe in continueing education. That said.. All these guys have become jaded to distortion. Granted harmonic distortion can bring warmth. but my GOD people pure overdrive breaking up into absolute sqauare wave at the peaks does NOT sound good! Stop it everyone! For the sake of clean music! ha!

start from scratch please Dave,...including whats you first instrument that u set the level of, like is it the kick or the snare and do you set it to infinity/0 or where? or, as I guess, it depends on genre, I would love to know how you attack different genres at initial mix stage

Dave says "the bass is featured" (Greetings from California album) and he's right. It's mixed too loud in the Madden stuff, IMHO. But Dave is more diplomatic than me. On my Neumann KH120's the bass is too darn loud. Yeah, Dave is right, it's too hot. Joe says "no one complains when there's too much bass on a record." True, they don't say nothin' 'till the mix gets muddy! Ha! Love Dave's interviews with their diplomatic slant.

I miss the old PP. This is slowly venturing into infomercial territory. I'm starting to wonder if the "guests" are not paying to be on the show to advertise themselves. Just an opinion and feedback. I've been watching the show since day one and have been to one of the events. Love everything you have done and are doing for the industry but come on guys.

When they get new sponsors, they get nicer stuff, can do bigger things and give away a lot of cool gear. I'm failing to see what's so wrong with that. Advertising is a necessary "evil" - and they do it well. The only thing I can even remotely begin to complain about is the lack of new ITL's, which has been addressed. No offense, but those kind of complaints wreak of entitlement and greed. When they start charging for episodes, then you have good reason to complain.

Herb: "Joe, the hour goes fast...". Joe Chiccarelli: "That can't be an hour..." (Well the 16 minute intro JUST to talk about sponsors left only 36 minutes for the interview to plug the Morrissey album. Mind you, this is an episide where we don't even have an ITL.). Still watch the show and grateful for the free content and the time dedicated for this. We also understand that there are limits to anything original that can be talked about when repeat guests come on. But when the sponsors are mentioned right in the middle of an interview, and blatently asking the guest how they feel about them, that's just annoying. Maybe they've figured out that a bunch of us automatically fast forward the first 15 minutes when we watch each show so they now have to be smacked right in the middle.

I'm just glad it's still at least 60-40 (content to sponsor recognition)!... These guys are busting ass to give us free content, I can deal with some ads and sponsor-dropping for the sake of Dave's invaluable production commentary.

I have a right to my opinion Ryan. And in my opinion I enjoyed the show more in the earlier episodes. You speak of weakness and greed. Well the show has gotten weak and the 20 min of selling shit in each episode shows greed.
