I saw joe claussell play in a now defunct club in amsterdam called truow, in 2014. I was 19 and it was the first time i really ~got~ house music. It started a love affair for the rest of my life until present, and even then, partying a lot, doing a lot of drugs and drinking, going all over the place, I hadn't ever seen a set as good. Years later, I ended up getting sober, partying less. Joe headlined a party in melbourne called freedom time. I luckily scored free tickets from my then housemate, a photographer at the festival. Only problem was, I had a shift that night at the bar I was working at. I spent the ENTIRE day ignoring the rest of the festival trying to get a cover for my shift that night. I wanted so badly to see his set it honestly hurt a lot. Like being there would have some symbolic weight or numinous quality. All the other sets to me, as grand as they were, werent priotity. But try as I might, I couldn't find anyone. Saddest uber I ever called. I was crushed, and knew i would likely never see him play again. But then, on the cusp of the city I found someone on a bartender exchange facebook group! I told my manager immediately but he wasn't happy. He said he needed someone who knew the close procedure. We struck a deal. If the dude filling in worked and I came in STRAIGHT from the show, and did the last hour of the close - we would be golden. Granted, it was a weekend and they were understaffed. I turned that uber around and didnt miss a goddamn second of the set. I think it felt in many ways like the closing of a loop. When I started partying, with the cosmopolitanism and conceit you often find in these spaces, mixed with the perfect storm of substances and chaotic people - I went through some emotional turmoil, and man. Standing there listening to an absolute masterclass in house music, I honestly cried. Hardest, and probably stupidest-looking I ever danced at a show - sober as a judge. It sounds pretty dramatic but I got in that uber to close the bar with the dumbest grin on my face and wouldn't shut up when I got there apologising and thanking everyone for putting up with my antics. I went home, and absolutely exhausted, I slept a mighty sleep. That next morning, it just so happened that a friend I was with that night was catching a flight to the states. Joe was there at the airport (if not on his flight? I dont recall). He told Joe the story, sent me a photo of the two together and by all accounts he's a really sweet dude. Thanks joe. Seeing your music has meant a lot to me over the years. House music will never die ❤
that's an awesome story!!!! gonna see him live for the first time next week for a 4hour session. looking forward to it, as a big fan of Fred P and other house masters, i'm sure i'll get emotional as you did. music heals! hope you're good man.
This is it guys, something that you rarely can see on Boiler Room, this is Joe Claussell, this is house music, this is something that you have to live, this is underground music in its highest point, unbelivable set, perfect, beautiful and unstonishing in any point, pity for the quality of this recording wich is really bad...
I met Joe in a restaurant in Italy last Sunday. We become friends immediately, a wonderful man ,he gave us an invitation to his gig on the Marrakesh beach on Porto Garibaldi...it was magical, his music was great.Wonderful!!!
LADIES and GENTLEMEN FOR ALL YOU THAT DONT UNDERSTAND THIS MAN DO YOUR DAM RESEARCH THIS IS WORLDWIDE DJ THE LEGENDARY DJ JOE CLAUSELL LEARN IT AND LEARN IT WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Sooo... yeah, the sound in this vid sux on our listening end, but there is a huge difference in what we hear on this end and the electricity that was felt live. DJ ing is about a lot more than just scratching, and track transitions being smooth and seamless. It's about sound control, sound manipulation and navigation. Being an artist accentuating other artists and themselves, being a complete technician. This man Joe Claussell, along with so nanny other greats and in varied genres, has been doing this for soooooo dang long and in a way that confirms that he knows every chord and inch of each track. His mixing style, seemingly unorthodox to some, showcases his understanding the DNA of a track... the footprint and emotions in the selection. His mixing will make you feel like there is a speaker where there isn't, like someone is performing or singing right next to you and yet the speakers are across the venue! You young house heads need to level uuup and do some research and study of the originators and shaman of this thing we old heads know of called H-O-U-S-E!! Just let it be and try to understand it's more than just a sound, it's also about a feeling, a spirit, a communal resonance that goes beyond our drab comprehension at times. Blessings and good times to all that know and desire understand and know... get the bug! House, techno, trance, dnb, acid forever!!! 🤗 mr. Mo, gone until the next
It looks like Joe was running the mixer directly into a RMX 1000.The engineer keep trying to turn it down but Joe would turn it back up. I'm glad that the sound was good at the venue .
@@ceeweight3845 ooh nah, lol meant acid house champ. Im just serious about this music. Been listening since 1987. I guess in short, maybe I could have compared it to watching a game on TV at home and then being in the stadium, seeing it live. 🤷🏽♂️👍🏽👌🏽
Boiler Guy: "Hey mate, we need your mixer for a party" Mixer's Owner: "All Right take it, who's going to play" Boiler Guy: "I can't tell you, it's a surprisse" Mixer's Owner: "Ok no problem, just take care of it" Boiler Guy: "Yes, don't worry"
Nobody: Not even a single soul: Joe: 1:16:18 If somebody got that fire track, let me know ❤️ edit: So after 26 RU-vid adds and some research, I did find a mix: The vision - Heaven (Danny Krivit Edit)
This joint is lit !!! Kudos to master DJ Claussell who knows exactly how to deliver and create an off- tha-chain event! An added treat is the Black Magic Woman track by lyricist and vocalist Harry Dennis who shares his innovative style of poetry to evoke the imagination…”I would walk a crooked mile on the backs of crocodiles just to get with you…etc.” love it…!!

is that "Ron Trent ft. Harry Dennis - Black Magic Woman" an edit or is it mixed with another track? I mean that sax solo not the "Do you remember House".
Just when I’m about to go to sleep and this pops up on my recommendations. O well I’ll sleep in the morning then. Thanks Joe Clauseell always a pleasure.
Remarkable. This entire set was in my soul. My spirit flew. Joe is probably the single most influential DJ music journey man in my life. Truly a blessing to be alive to experience this.
@@bartomiejweglarz1162 I was waiting for him for the fifth anniversary of Odyssia festival 2020 but cause of the Corona the have postponed it the for next year. Hope we Will see his name on the lineup
When u mix at home or in a studio, subtle changes in volume can be heard obviously. In a club environment you need to be more bold with the controls. This doesn't always translate well over a recording but you have to absorb the vibe as well as the audio, you will see Claussell got the vibes. Yas
So warm, raw, natural and organic. Just look at the crowd, there is magic. A welcome change to overly perfected and synthetic DJ sets scared to push things musically out of fear for being rejected or making mistakes. This is full soul, no ego, and music and crowd (and him) at same level. And isolator manipulation bringing physical modulation of the energy. This is a very NYC and Chicago frame of mind of DJing / school of DJing
The reality is an analog signal path is way more forgiving than a digital one, so the sound in the venue was likely fine, but it was distorting the signal into whatever recording source they were using. The way he mixes requires a shitload of headroom. So unfortunately the world is stuck with a shitty sounding recording.
You really need to hear this mix with some quality speakers ie: Klipsch Rp 160’s at a minimum, cranked at a high level,(above medium)add a Sub to take it to another level.:)
As a Montrealer, this video makes me sad. In the space of 20 years, this city went from being one of the dance-music and party meccas of North America to what we see in this video. In the 1990s, there is NO WAY that we'd have nearly all just stood around looking at the DJ and 2-stepping. Granted, dance clubs were nearly extinct by the time this generation was old enough to go out at night; so, they are probably more accustomed to listening, and dancing, to house music in the limited spaces of their bedrooms than on the expanse of a dance floor, soaking in the energy of strangers/fellow dancing househeads. You can also tell by many of the comments here by people who don't understand Claussell's use of effects: These effects make PERFECT sense in the context of a LIVE DJ set in a dance venue -- quite less sense if you're only listening on RU-vid and you're not old enough to have gone to danceclubs in the 80s-90s when these effects were the sign of a very experienced DJ, and quite effective when listening in front of 6-foot speakers.

@@cristianopsytrance 07:00 this is an unreleased track called "Magic Carnival" but i don't know if its Ron Trent's or Joe Claussell's. If anyone knows when this will be released please tell, it's been a year and a half since i heared from the first time and still waiting for it. Thanks in advance
Fu#$%^ amazing! The way to make music move with such Grace and indigenous rhythm, and using it to Rock the house, It's all about Dynamics. Like Chic in the 80's. much love!!!!!!
Make sure to ignore the chat, because those MFs are on crack. The technique this guy has is unparalleled (despite the sound clipping, because he gives no fucks). Salute to you Joe!
Joe doesn't soundcheck...He expects them to be ready when he gets there, and they almost always let him down...Then he goes batshit crazy and blows out the system!! You will dance though!!
Saludos.
@@lennyharmony2775 I just checked a bunch of their stuff on Discogs, and none of it sounded even partially close to this. You sure it's the right artist?
This is damn near impossible to enjoy due to the sound quality. It's a shame because the set is absolutely gang busters. I tried listening to it thru the bluetooth in my car and eventually I had to turn it off.
