This is one my favorite songs by Joe aside from being one of my favorite singers. I heard about it about a couple of years ago and have loved it ever since then.
I was shocked by his death! I hadn't heard he was ill. My understanding is he isn't even in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. What???!!!
Spam will be deleted.
I've always wanted to see him in concert! Well, to my surprise after i ordered my Tina Turner tickets(2000) and shortly before attending i discovered Joe was to be the opening act!!! Attending the concert was worth a million times over. Talk about drooling...LOL! He sang for an hour. I wish i had a camera with me. :( I sure would like to see him again.

When Joe stood up to sing you knew you were in for something special. Doesn't matter what the song was, he gave his listeners everything he had, every time.

Joe did 2 studio versions of this songs. The other one has an organ solo instead of the steel guitar. I have both & the LS original in my Cocker playlist!

let us not forget that this IS NOT A JOE COCKER song. John Sebastian & the Lovin' Spoonful deserve the credit. Yeah, the same dude who wrote "Welcome Back, Kotter". Cheers! Frankc32

It is one great song! Joe was and is a great singer! And the man has been known to blow the doors off every now and again! The video was fantastic! I have a tendency to forget, that people must be making movies like this all the time! Afterall, it is the Internet, where else would you find such jems if not here?

You're a woman?! That's crazy! I'm a huge fan of you guys!! lol. I listened to this tune like 10 times in a row the other night. I've always known the Cocker stuff we've all heard on the classic rock stations, growing up. This track is making me get out the shovel and unearth dudemans work. Better late then never. Sooo looking forward. Thank you:)

Can anyone tell me about this version? It sounds VERY close to the original studio, but it isn't. The studio track has piano all throughout and strings. It also doesn't sound live. Frankly, his very was never this crisp live. I am wondering if this is either a studio outtake, or the original studio vocal track with a different music mix behind him. I think I like this version better... it's cleaner. Whoah... just got to the end and heard the slide guitar. If this is from the 60s or 70s, there is really only one guy for pedal steel... Jerry Garcia. Just found out Joe died today, so I am soaking in this song over and over. It's his best, by a thousand miles. Thoughts out there?

Yes - I agree -- don't know which version this is but it's beautiful. RIP Joe - you are a beautiful soul - gone to the rainbow bridge where there is no more pain.

I believe the pedal steel was probably played by Sneaky Pete Kleinow, who was a major session man for pedal steel throughout the 60s - 70s. He played with Cocker on some albums, and was ubiquitous throughout the period. All props to Jerry, but Sneaky Pete was the major influence on pedal steel players who came after him, like Jerry and Buddy Cage

This version was recorded for the 1996 album Organic. The album is kind of a Joe Cocker Unplugged. Better mixes, stripped down, and more, well, "organic" versions of a number of his previous hits.
@Ragameleff

sounds like Greg Leisz on pedal steel here

Ragameleff It is Greg Leisz, but the album credits show only Dobro. What I hear sure sounds like pedal steel, though.
