Such a sixties Superstars on stage: Cocker himself, legendary Alan Spenner on Bass (he played bass in "JC Superstar" recording sessions), marvelous Chris Stainton on Keyboards...
Jack Evans I transcribed his Original Bass Line and played it over the NBC John Legend version. www.dropbox.com/s/imbplymiktttq2v/What%27s%20The%20Buzz-NBC%20with%20Dave%20Lowrey%20on%20Alan%20Spenner%27s%20Original%20bass%20Line%20.mp3?dl=0
Yeah, Spenner is "Steppin'" on this one. Like he did on most all he played. Great to hear them do a reasonably good sounding recording, live in a pseudo club situation. You can really hear the energy of the band. They get forgotten when mention comes of great old bands. The Greace band kicked butt!
Spenner at his best can be found on "To Be Cool," a CD from a rehearsal of his fabulous soul/r&b revue Kokomo. He was incredible. The James Jamerson or Chuck Rainey of the UK -- with a little extra thrown in. I used to see a lot of him in Kokomo and always believed I'd never see a better bassist -- and I haven't.
