That is an incredible version. It just shows that it doesn't need to be similar to the one of Hugh Laurie or whoever. I love both versions! It's the soul they put into the performance!
I have been going back, and forth between versions of this amazing song and I was trying to figure out which version is the best..... I think I have a winner. This was amazing
Random, same here for years, listening to both, making comparisons, and maybe this one gets it. But for years I listened to the guitar solo on the other version and was amazed by how inspired it is.
Qué versión pasional y desgarrada hizo Joe de esta canción inmensa. La banda (todos sin excepción) me parecen magníficos. Gracias por compartir está belleza. Joe, te amo ❤
It's a wonderful Version, to be sure. But the BEST VERSION EVER by Joe Cocker is the one with a hammond organ instead of the piano: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ICtvvIj-xyA.html This is THE blues… Close your eyes and stop doing anything else… Listen, how he sings "her" in "Let her go, let her go! - God bless her …" so weak of depression.... And the soli of the other Instruments (I'm talking like his voice is an Instrument, i just realize…. but it kind of is ...), especially the flute which goes double-voice at some point, but the others, too …. Gorgeous! So musical …. Uncomparable!

there are many version recorded by many different artist, all ok in their own way, but cockers version is the only version that is from the heart and soul. He sings as if it was him who lived it. This is why this version will be the only version which will be remembered forever. With all that said however, I have come across a piano version who has the same exact soul and feel. Check out on you tube, Henri Hebert, "Pianoman Soothes Busy Train Station". He is a concert pianist, If only we could have gotten him and Joe together on this, OMG!!!
Van Morrison version simply classy & elegant as hell. Joe Cocker's, dirty & gutsy as hell Both God damn great versions. I hope Louie Armstrong would agree.
Lieber Joe, warum bist Du nur in Deinem späteren Leben so krank geworden? Du hattest eine liebende Frau gefunden und Du hast so gern im Garten gearbeitet. Ich glaube fest, dass Du jetzt glücklich bist!
The one and only version! I'll do a RU-vid demo of his cd album on my Dynaudio's C2 Speakers soon, have'nt got this album on vinyl regretably, anybody?
Great voice but he completely cut out a giant chunk of the song An' give me six crap shooting pall bearers, Let a chorus girl sing me a song. Put a red hot jazz band at the top of my head So we can raise Hallelujah as we go along. Folks, now that you have heard my story, Say, boy, hand me over another shot of that booze; If anyone should ask you, Tell 'em I've got those St. James Infirmary blues
