I fear the sheer height of some of the current champs would be too much for him. Foreman perfected the use of the height and strength advantage over Joe - pushing him off at the shoulders, then hooking big before he can reposition. That's how Oscar almost beat him and how Big George obliterated him twice and fast. My guess is that AJ, Deontay, and Fury, all three much taller even than Foreman, would figure this out too. And all three are strong enough to make it matter. A fun matchup, however, might be Smokin Joe and Dell Boy Chisora.

I wasn't even born during his prime and reigning days but I grew up to love his boxing skills, charisma, stamina, strength and determination. To further make it worst, all the opponent's he defeated were all bigger and taller in body size than him and he is a type of boxer that keep coming at you like a bee with no intent of retreat until he finally knocks you off your feet .As for me he is the best heavyweight boxer of all time after Muhammad Ali may be debatable because his unbeatable left hook was a death sentence❤😮😢 RIP to my favourite boxer of all time #Smoking Joe Frazer

Great analysis of Smokin' Joe's most unique & underated fighting style. The first time I saw him fight on live TV he was getting up off the mat six times against the much bigger Foreman. I couldn't believe my eyes. Nobody else ever got up more than once from a Big George knockdown. Toughest fighter ever. His first & last fights against Ali were two of the best fights of all time. Even though Ali won two, I thought Joe won more rounds in all three. They may have been even in the ring but Joe was much classier outside of it. My favorite boxer and athlete. I try to live my life like Joe lived and fought... never give up and wear down your opponent or obstacle. Great heart; RIP Champ!

Fraizer Career record (all fights): 32-4 (not too impressive) Career record real heavyweight fights 200×2 lbs: 13-4 Career record real superheavyweight fights 215×2 lbs: 1-2 Frazier fought 20x against bums: KO'ratio 90% Frazier fought 17x against non-bums (that's very good): KO'ratio 52% and of these 17 ALL were natural cruisers except 2 ( Buster Mathis (win) and Foreman (2x loss) Frazier outweighed his opponents in 21 fights: KO'Ratio 95% (he KO'ed all of them but 1) Frazier was outweighed in 15 fights: KO'ratio 46% (featherfist) Median weight of Frazier's KO'victim: 197 lbs (cruiser) Frazier boxed 9 times against natural heavies (that's good) He scored 4 KOs (featherfist) of which 3 were against bums ·Don Smith (11-7) ·Ron Stander (37-21) ·Mel Turnbow (8-13) and 1 KO (round 11) was against a non-bum ·Buster Mathis (30-4, 61% KO'ratio), a very fat boxer. No wonder Frazier could KO him in the 11th round: It was the first time that Buster went more than 10 rounds and already the previous 10-rounder of Buster was merely a split decision against bum ·Bob Stallings (31-32, 201 lbs). Frazier never fought some of the better boxers of his time like Mac Foster, Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton, etc Joe Frazier KO'ed 14 opponents within 3 rounds (that's pretty good, considering he had only 37 fights). But it turns out that ALL of them were bums (median career record of these bums 11-23) except for 2 opponents: ·Bob Foster 188 lbs (= cruiser) and ·Dave Zyglewycz 190 lbs (= cruiser) whom tiny Frazier (hold your hat) out-weighed, out-reached and out-talled. Dave Zyglewycz has been called "the worst guy to ever get a title shot" and once you check his wins (ONLY bums, median record 10-16) you will have to agree.

18:44 I totally agree. Isn't it funny how these small guys like frazier and tyson are really in full flow when they have their jab working. It's like they are so much smaller that if they have the timing and rhythm that they are landing their jab then they can land anything. Mike Tyson most important punch in his prime was his jab in my opinion. Maybe the same with Frazier. Or maybe when we see their jab working, its just a sign that they are in their elite mode and can start landing anything because of their high level timing?

no, joe frazier was near to his prime in first confrontation (of course he may declined in terms of pace but he was still decent level boxer) , foreman's fighting style was totally nullified all possible attack of frazier. The difference between a great great champion and all others is the ability to adapt. Ali adapted when he lost his speed. He became a punching bag because he never learned classic boxing style. His holding behind the head and often leaning on the ropes and his great chin and tremendous heart and character make him maybe the greatest. Robinson adapted. When he got old and in his comeback he adapted to his old age and was able to beat beasts like Fullmer and Basilio and even under rated Bobo Olson. Robinson was fighting on memory when he fought Fullmer and Basilio but because he has had classic boxing techniques he was able to adapt. Foreman adapted in his comeback. Smoking Joe was not able to adapt. He fought Foreman the same way he fought Ali. He had one gear. A great champion but not among the all time best.
@fights1397

That is some of the best analysis I've ever seen. The warning signs for Frazier are shown when he gets hurt by Bonavena and that uppercut from Ramos which buckled his legs. His only survival skills are head movement which is fine in his prime as it was that good but after the first Ali fight he was never the same fighter and when he got hurt vs George he just couldn't avoid the punches. He should have developed some clinching. He wasn't the kind of guy who was going to start using lateral movement.

That’s right , the Ali of 67 was the best heavyweight of all time he would have beat Joe. Ali nearly beat Joe in 71 and he had been out of the ring for 3 years and only had two fights after his enforced exile. Joe was a great fighter and a great human being but was vulnerable against big punchers

Tyson in his prime would have knocked Frazier out in the first round

I bet if he didnt evade liston nobody will know who joe frazier was , because liston and foreman carried similarity in their style. I think all success of joe frazier was beating up Ali in 1971.

@@mustafaatalay212 Liston was a bit before my time, but he was a beast! Rumor has it he had mob obligations against Clay, not sure how true that is/was. Never like Frazier, but no denying his heart. Ali back in his day was not as popular as the bandwagon would have us believe, he was cocky as hell and that turned a LOT of people off. Thought Foreman as going to kill him in Zaire. Cheers!

Frazier was a good fighter but not great. He fought a lot of stiffs. His style worked well with Ali but when he faced better competition he lost. 2 of 3 to Ali, 2 to Foreman. He didn't face the best fighters. No Norton, no Lyle or Shavers, no Young.

In his prime he was unbeatable. I dont think anyone could have beaten him between 1968 - 1971. The first Ali fight which he won convincingly and which I think is the greatest boxing match in boxing history, took a lot out of him. He was never the same fighter after that fight. Ali was not the same fighter either...but he had more boxing talent than Frazier to offset the physical assets he lost during that fight.
