We're on Episode 83 of Bengals On The Brain with Joe Goodberry, presented by First Star Logistics, with a deep dive into Cincinnati Bengals seventh-round draft pick Matt Lee, out of the University of Miami.
See why the Hagerty High School (Oveido, FL) product is my favorite pick by the Bengals in the past draft, as he brings great pass-pro technique and more to a position that needs a solid backup for Ted Karras this coming season and a possible replacement for Karras in the years that follow.

I’m in agreement with you about Matt Lee. Great player lots of guys had a 5th round grade on him and I even found one with a 4th round grade on him. He does remind me of Jason Kelce. Almost identical in size. Kelce is 6’3’’ 295 and Lee is listed as 6’4’’ 295 but was 301 when he tested. I have very little doubt that he will be our starting center in 2025. He is the new backup center. Lees ras is 8.66 and Trey Hills ras is 2.08. So I rest my case. Lee is stronger than Trey Hill is too. I would rather waive Trey Hill and sign him to the practice squad or just show him the door entirely.

GREAT breakdown. It's good to see Lee, not only taking care of the 1st guy but often embracing the 2nd defender. If this guy can contribute like this as a Bengal with the twin towers on the outside, Burrow and the offensive weapons will LOVE IT. CHEERS to ALL

I was really looking forward to this one. I knew that Miami had put a lot of NIL money into that OL, and getting him to stay last season was seen as a huge win for Mario, so I was really curious what the film showed. Thanks as always.

Yes Matt Lee was a 5th hear senior BUT he is only 22 years old. He will be 23 this summer but that better than say Fiske from Florida State who will turn 25 during his rookie year.

0 is fabian lovett . I actually had him one spot above mckinnley jackson. He's not the athlete McKinnley is, but he's solid at holding his spots and was just more consistent down to down. Mckinnley has a higher upside but fabian who went undrafted can be a solid backup nose in the league. Talked about him on X and spaces

I'd be hard pressed to name a center who was quicker getting out of their stance. His quickness is such an advantage for his game which is superior positioning as opposed to displacement by brute strength. The major question on Lee is how did he make it to round 7? When we drafted him I was thinking he could be the backup center. I think he has a legit chance to start at center down the road.

Lee was my 4th center this year. After JPJ and Zach Frazier and Beaux Limmer the center/guard from Arkansas. I really wanted the Bengals to pick Limmer in round 6 but the Rams got him right after we picked. We could have gotten him but Matt Lee is good. A little smaller but a still athletic as hell. Not quite as athletic as Limmer though. Limmers RAS is 9.80 and Lees is 8.66 so they are both good. How in the fuck did anyone think it was a good idea to draft Trey Hill in 2021? His RAS is 2.08.

Why do you think he wasn’t drafted until we took him in the 7th if he’s this good? Simply size? Worse players were selected far before him..

Lack of perceived positional flexibility. Hard to make it as a Center only unless you're a blue chipper

He’s very good but he has a tell that season players will pick up on. He bobs his head just as he releases the ball

Not one of y'all has made a video the last few days without Dogging Borrow for his injuries man... WOW!!!!! He had the worst O line in the History in the NFL his first season and got hurt... His wrist was from the same type of thing... A SACK!!!! That shouldn't have happened!! TO ME BOTH HIS INJURIES WAS NOT HIS FAULT> I blame the O-line so why do you think he got hurt? If it is from the O-LINE MISSINC a BLOCK... THEN STOP DOGGING HIM!!! HAHAHAHA How's that?

Agreed Any qb would've been hurt as much as joe if not more. If they had to deal with what he dealt with

I agree with the sentiment. However, pay attention to the time. Any pressure or hit on a QB in 2.9 sec or less is a blocking failure; while any pressure or hit on a QB in 3 sec or more is a QB failure. 3 seconds is the golden rule. That's why all the great QB's and schemes aim to get the ball out of the QBs hands in less than 3 seconds. Burrow is a very competitive QB and at times, he does hold onto the ball looking for his wide outs to get open. I am very optimistic for this season, however. The addition of Trent Brown with Mims and Lee backing up Center and tackle spots. The only major weakness on paper is LG and who's backing up the guard positions. Volson is certainly serviceable, but we could use someone to challenge. Carmen and Hill aren't that.

@@BrnMrcm Actually I used to count when Dalton started having issues. He went from 3 or 4 seconds to less than 2... They used to say Dalton had the fastest release in football at the time. I'd say he HAD TO HAHAH Thats what Burrow came into... less than 2 seconds man... I always counted actually... It's always always on third down too! Especially the Browns and Steelers. We never could stop a team's Number one edge rusher! To me THAT is why Mixon struggled at times. Defenses just blew right through!!! I hope that changes because if not we will be close but no cigar again... Fort some reason Dalton had a decent record against the Ravens though Much better than the Steelers HAHAH Go Figure.... When we lost Whit it was over...
