Joe uses several different colored hackle. Light tan and gray and his two favorites but I have seen him use grizzly so many times. I’m spoiled to know Joe and he is always willing to share recipes.

Joe Humphrey's is awesome. I am truly jealous of the folks who have the opportunity to meet him. I live in San Antonio Texas, and I have been Fly Fishing here for 6 years. We have the Guadalupe River that has been stocked with Rainbows and Brownies for almost 3 years, the process of adaptation is slow but we have some very large Trout who have adapted. Trout Unlimited has a chapter her called Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited which works with Texas Parks and Wildlife to protect the Guadalupe River, the Trout which is very challenging. I have been using Joe's Nymphing style and it is truly the best way to catch Trout. Nice video, I have to start dropping hints with my wife to get me a Fly Fishing set up so I can start tying my own flies.

I only crimp my barb on flies for trout and panfish particularly but any other fish are pretty resilient and don’t get stressed out by that barb like trout and panfish do they also have bigger mouth so it’s easier getting that fly out

But if I was tying a cress big I would do it in black or dark grey as crest bugs are black and dark grey but it shouldn’t matter honestly aquatic insects are all different colours
