Throughout Joe's many band configurations and members one thing is consistent- Graham Maby ALWAYS directly behind Joe. A humble, driving, eloquent bassist with an incredible feel across all spectrums- from Punk to Funk, Bach to Rock...
Adele wouldn't set foot on stage in Vegas because she didn't like the stage set/pond that had been created for her residency . Here is Joe and his excellent band ( what a guitar player ) performing with a pile of guitar cases stacked on top of some flight cases . It's all about the MUSIC !!!!
Great to see the legend that is long time bassist ( with Joe Jackson ) that is Gary Maby who after over 40 yrs is still playing with him . I recommend the footage on RU-vid of Joe Jackson playing “ Stepping out “ at The Palladium ,London , It’s a lot of fun as Joe explains about the drum machine they had just bought and used on that track and actually use in that clip The drummer has a sense of humour at the start of the track and Gary Maby plays xylophone very well and the performance is a lot of fun .
I don’t know if Joe Jackson was free and available but I would much rather have seen him on the Queens jubilee concert than some of the crap on the bill like ……. Sir Rod Stewart ! Hmm . Please ! He should have been taken to Tower of London after his “performance “.
Christopher i like your comment , this lovely guy as never been in the lime light , i think thats a reason ive always adored him xx hes such a great talent his voice is second to none ,,i agree with you about Sir Rod Stuart , he should be in the Tower of London and the key thrown away ,,,,, lol Jane x
@@oughtonoughton2634 Thanks for your kind comments Jane I think the only time that the music press in Uk were interested in Joe Jackson was about the same time as his A&M label mates Squeeze back at the end of the 70’s and early 80’s when they had early hits and then again briefly when “ Stepping out “ was released but apart from that , since then I would agree he’s not been in the limelight . Joe has just been steady making new albums and touring for his loyal diehard fans . This performance and others I’ve seen from this tour show that he’s as good as ever , as are his incredible musicians in his band A nice “shout out” to bassist Gary Maby who has been with Joe Jackson a very long time ( over 40 yrs I think. ? ) Bit of fun …. How would you rank your top 5 albums by Joe Jackson ? Btw . You can include live albums by him Over to you ……. Lol
Have to say Joe always had a top notch band rem hearing him years back man that bass n drums steady as a rock, guitar sublime as per usual didnt know he was still gigging tho but a great performance.
I always thought of this guy as a New Wave artist and wasn't familiar with his entire catalog and I was surprised by how many hits he has. When he first came out I was caught up in a " us against them" kind of social scene and didn't pay attention to New Wave music. Only now ( I'm 59) do I appreciate his talent. This guitarist is great!
First, Joe Jackson is one of the most talented people that I search for on RU-vid. I've been listening to Joe Jackson since 1982. That being said, I think his bass player really let the song down in this production! In addition, it was quite noticeable that the horns were not present!
Jesus!!! Some people just shouldn't! First of all, no horn, so no Bueno, and Joe jumped the shark decades ago. This is NOT how people want to remember him. Just a brutal bastardization of a once great song. Should have left it in the past where it belongs as this is just an abomination!!! Stay in the Retirement Home Joe, your time was great, but it's long gone. Trying to relive your youth just never works out right.
