Joe was one of the flair players and some of his pots were absolutely awesome :)

Yeah. He was a bit like Willie Thorne. Tremendously talented, great break builder, but never really performed under T.V conditions, until that year of course. He was a 150/1 outsider as well. Tremendous fairy tale.

Very naturally gifted quick player. Must not be much fun to be on the receiving end of such a player.

Some of Joe's pots are spectacular even by todays standards - but 36 years ago this type of potting was almost unheard of.

I remember this match the last 4 frames from Joe were devastating poor Terry was in total shock by the end of it ..

The Green Griffiths missed after 40 seconds changed the career of Johnson Terry was 12/9 up and well set but following that Johnson changed his tactics started to attack and won 38 of the final 58 frames he played in that tournament

To think that terry Griffiths missed that green because he played it too quickly! Also that was a rin through shot on and off the baulk cushion, wrong decision to try and screw it, white was always going too close to the middle pocket. Should have been a Davis Griffiths final for sure. Johnson did start to pot everything after that mistake tho. Joining the ranks of Taylor Dott Parrot and indeed Griffiths as 1 win wonders.

Never mind Joe, the bravery of refereeJohn Williams to sport a grand spanking pair of grey flannel flares in 1986

Griffiths with his cigarette when Johnson won yet another frame. Was that nervous tension?

Griffiths lost by playing safe when he has ball in hand to try and win it. Typical terry

He sure was far too negative with most of his play still A good player though. You don’t win a world title else

Not really it was a tough pot with not a great angle. Modern players may have taken it on, but he played a good shot getting the red out

@@samadbaksh- He was born Joseph Malik. His step-father was named Johnson and Joe took his surname. I don't think Joe had anything to do with his biological Dad..
