We all know how great Lovano is but Tony Lakotos is a revelation. His solo is quite amazing and the exchanges are really special. A big vibe in this music. Lovano looks stunned at some points. What a great video, thanks for putting it up. Great tune, great band . I love it.

This is a perfect example of jazz as a visual art form too. Watching the exchange, the reaction to the other's phrases..is not only sheer entertainment, even humorous at times, but also gives insights to the true ability to engage, connect, and communicate with the other. The exchange often inspires the creative genius in this type of live setting. It allows the players to go out on a limb...to become bolder and take paths into somewhat uncharted territory. Thanks for making this available

I spent several years listening to Tony Lakatos while I was working it Hungary! To say that he is the premier saxophonist in Hungary would be an understatement!

I too have been checking him out! ......... strange I find his sound thin compared to Joe lovano’s! I bet it’s his horn is not vintage!

@@Jazzmarcel Agreed! A much lighter sound for sure! He and his brother, Roby (violin), would have to be the among the premier jazz musicians in Hungary which has superb jazz at all levels.

@@chuckciao1 unfortunately, I don’t know about other Hungarian musicians, he is fine horn man that I don’t pass over new videos of him playing!👊🏾😡

@@Jazzmarcel man, please stop this shit about new horns not sounding as fat as vintage ones.. you can change so much with mouthpieces and setup. It’s really not about the horn you’re playing!

This is jazz from Frankfurt am Main. The interpreters take the best possible freedom, always create new surprises about the form of old jazz standards and thereby reflect current events. It shows that the jazz standards are far from over.

Both are tarogato masters. It could be interesting to hear them play this wonderful instrument together. And one day maybe, the glissotar.

I enjoyed this exchange, but it reminds me how different Lovano is from other modern tenor players in the Trane Rollins lineage. The notes Lovano plays, his freedom with harmony has a lot to do with Dewey Redman and Jim Pepper I think, he's quite different from Brecker and Bergonzi etc. At least that is my impression having transcribed some of his lines. He sounds similar on the surface, but underneath it's a bit different. I don't know how he does it, but I like it. Big soul, jumps in, shapes and colors, lands on feet like a cat.

Νice Lovanian deviations towards Henderson or .. Ayler , but Lakatos is far more better on the changes ...

Joe Lovano KNOWS the changes!!! What you hear is Lakatos is a clearer player. Lovano is more post modern.
