@@johngalt60 Than Now? not much but I'm not talking about Now. The point is referring to the Montana era vs. Brady's era, BIG difference. It was probably before your time I assume by the sound of your response but trust me, Not the same by a long shot. The rule changes mostly started happening when Brady was drafted because of contract investments in QBs skyrocketing.
@@johngalt60Tellingly, that was also the half of Brady's career where all the big games were decided by defense and kicking (not to mention cheating).
Joe is the original GOAT! Thanks for the memories Joe! And yes, he'd tear it up in today's league, just like many other greats from his generation that weren't covered in a force field of rules when they played.
I'm guessing you might be young @crohm... because BART STARR won 6 total championships...(4 NFL titles, 2 super bowls)...and remember, the niners were loaded with talent in offense AND defense...like Aikmans cowboy teams and tommies patriots....after all , it's a team game.. BUT YEAH, JOE MONTANA WAS ABSOLUTELY GREAT...in that offense...
@Steven-kl6lh. Relatively young, didn't get to see Bart Starr but wish I had. Sounds like he may have been the original GOAT?! My first NFL game I remember watching was Montana and the 9ers against Miami in the SB so I am biased for sure 😀
@@crohm42 YEAH but there were guys way way back that were exceptional... different eras different game...it just seems every generation wants the best at that time to be the goat...I love the way mahomie plays but there's people already giving him goat status...where are you, what's your team?
@@Steven-kl6lhMahomes isn't close and people are crazy just to keep the narrative because the truth is the NFL is boring. The games are bad and we have had to many injuries . This year was abysmal
Joe is the GOAT. Say what you want about Brady I will take Joe every time. My favorite quarterback growing up. Pulling for Brock this Sunday also. Go Niners.
What an interview. I’ve seen a thousand Joe interviews, the man was my hero growing up. I emulated his play growing up, in pee wee, in high school and you know what, it worked! But what a great guy. He is so damn humble it’s unreal. He doesn’t want to take credit for anything he’s done. To me, that just makes him even more of the GOAT. I don’t care how many rings these guys get. I’ll tell you one thing Mahomes and Brady can’t do and didn’t do respectively, Joe didn’t throw 1 interception in a Super Bowl. Not one. To play in 4 Super Bowls against the best team on the other side and not throw an INT is something special. I think that gets overlooked. Respect Joe. Someday Brock will get his ring, hopefully next year.
I don’t buy the Brady as GOAT theory (why isn’t Bill Russell a GOAT? Why isn’t Yogi one?). The best QBs I ever saw were Marino and Joe Cool here. And while he may try to make it sound like he just tossed the ball to Taylor and Rice, remember he was already a legend before either was even in the NFL.
I thought the 1988 NFC Championship game in against the Bears at Soldier Field was perhaps the coldest. The wind-chill was 26 below zero. Joe had a great game. The field was frozen solid.
Joe was the funnest QB to watch ever. He just had..it. Probably the most cerebral QB that ever played. Another Joe... Burrow, will put an end to all the Mahones talk for the next several years if he stays injury free.
Joe is cooler than coooL. He's Funkadelic! My my, How the Game has changed over the years! Rule #1 protecting the QB, Montana, Staubach, Bradshaw paved the way for Brady & Mahomes
Would have rather seen Joe Montana carrying the TROPHY to the Chiefs, or 9'rs if they would have won, than Elway. He's still loved by both teams. Montana was/is so great. Was kinda funny though with Elway. IMNSHO. My 1st NFL game (at stadium) was Joe playing for KC. Hell yes KC won. Loved him when with San Fran. Loved him even more with KC. GO CHIEFS!!
I really wish that Dan or whoever interviews Joe Montana would ask some better questions than the same old stuff like who was his Favorite player growing up or what teams Def did he hate playing against the most during his NFL career but no it’s always the same questions in every interview
This guy is 4 & 0 in the Superbowl with no turnovers. He was the QB that to me was the greatest. Many can argue Brady and I couldn't argue against that but this was the guy for decades.
and Joe did it in en era where hitting QBs was open game. Brady owes his career and longevity on all the new [soft] rules favoring QBs when he started.
Brady lost back to back Superbowls to the Giants. If Michael Jordan lost back to back championships to Utah would M.J be in the Goat debate? Oh I forgot Joe faced the Bengals twice in the Superbowl. Brady has 3 Superbowl loses thats one less loss than Jim Kelly
Many sports commentators still say Purdy had three terrible quarters against the Packers and one good drive. That was more or less the same kind of game as Montana had against the Cowboys in that "the catch" game. But everybody would say "that was Montana, a four quarter guy", that shows for me the double standard. And by the way, I still consider that NFC championship is still one of Montana's career greateast games because of the come back, what it meant, etc. My comment is more about how we shoud see greatness in what Brock is building brick by brick.
Everyone says the NFL now and the past 15 years is a shadow of what it once was so how can any players that played the past 15 - 20 years be the GOAT? Joe played in the real NFL when it was great not FLAG FOOTBALL like today.. JOE IS THE GOAT
Joe Montana is reciting play calls from 30 years ago like he just learned them, but look at how he's saying he "doesn't remember his stats" from his most impressive games. Take notes, kids: Brag about others, and let others brag about you.
Dan seems to be a lost soul that even at his age seems to like being a celebrity worship Joe Montana's a great quarterback but he's just a person it seems like a cool guy good family man but he's just a great football player he's Dan is so much in a celebrity worship it's crazy
