The only time I saw my dad cry was when I asked him if he wished his dad was still alive to see how successful he had become. There is a powerful bond between a father and son and it was emotional for me to watch this video.
These episodes are really good, and we appreciate the work gone into it. What some people don't understand is this isn't just about the car, but the owners and the lifestyle in general. Why that's so confusing to some of you, I just don't understand. Maybe you're just fronting a tough-guy persona, pretend you're too cool for real talk, but you're not fooling anyone. Those of us who enjoy this series, are people who can appreciate life and the things involved, and what it takes to pursue our passion for cars, no matter what they may be. As adults, we aren't afraid to shed a tear, we understand that's part of life, we're all going head first through this world, scared of the future, scared of losing family and friends, scared of death. You get to a point where you don't care about appearing macho and 'cool', because you realize we're all in the same boat with the way we feel.
I met Joe Ray at the 2012 Las Vegas Super Show and had a long conversation with him like we were old friends very nice person for taking the time to talk to a spectator from Philadelphia great guy for that looking forward to seeing him again and finishing our conversation cuz he was in the middle of judging cars God bless
I just bought an 89 Lincoln. I am also a young white dude(18). I get some weird looks, but always from younger people. The main thing I love about the car is the conversations I have with the older guys about it.
I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! seriously every episode of lowrider rollmodels is really good....the portret of the cars and the people that build them are spot on...and somehow i get emotional watching this....the passion these people have for their cars is awesome....the feeling of family values that runs through this series is one of the best things of the series....really really good job guys...keep it coming..
Thanks Joe for all you have done for the lowrider scene your influence stretch’s farther than you think, family first then cars keep up the good work !
After 23 yrs..I've finally ripped out the HUGE poster of Joe Rays 79 Lincoln out My July 95 LowRider issue..Its now hangn in me n my son's ManCave... RESPECT n Always 100!
That Lincoln (Las Vegas) and Riviera brought back memories of my early teen years. I used to ask my parents to drive me to a bookstore across town to check and see if the latest copy of Lowrider was out. Gracing the covers, I'd see these famous cars and dream about a '63 Impala SS (My Fav). To be here and still appreciate Lowriders in 2019 and to be able to see the faces and stories behind the cars is all a gift. Thanks!
Great video and story joe ray. That's how I got into low riding. Helping my cousins with their low riders listening to their stores. Plus i learned how to install hydralics. Do interior paint but most of all respect everyone and yourself. Those are the best times I remembered growing up.
I remember last vagas and dressed to kill I had poster of both of them cars. I loved those cars when I was a kid but times change and the Eldo he put together is probably the best lowrider ever this dude is the man !!! He came a long way in his life I have noting but respect for this dude even though I don't even know him.
Mom N Pops Joe, Mom n Pops. People don’t have to look far to see them in you Mijo. Congrats, you are, and deserve to be a Lowrider Hall of Famer, and an Absolute Lowrider Roll Model. Thank you. 🙏🙏🙏
There's something so special about the car community that just amazes me. No matter what your taste or your preference may be, everyone who see's a car beyond a use of A to B transportation, has their self embodied in that car. Every different community and every club has such a unique culture in of it's self. I just love hearing these stories of how a vehicle is such a large impact on one's life. I can really relate to Joe, this goes to show what car's are all about. How your project is an extension of your personality. Although I may not be a fan of hydraulics myself. The attention to detail, the craftsmanship in this community just amazes me. This isn't something that can just be built in any shop. The best builds in my opinion are when that personal vehicle has it's own impact on yourself. And it is really present here. I'm rectally new into this scene but this 68 impala that I've been cursed by, has actually helped ME throughout my life more than I've realized. I'm just glad that there is a community where there's an escape from the world, where segregation of race, politics, or religion doesn't exist. Where nothing matters but appreciating one another's art.
heart and soul, I love this. What a man, what a path, what a journey. A true icon. It doesn't matter what car you have or what background you come from if you love cars, this is how you feel about them.
A very honest telling of your life. I think that your dad was always proud of you but times were different and harder in a number of ways. The cars are amazing good work.
I don't know if you will read this Joe. You've done right by your parents, I have not. I have that obsession with cars and bikes. I work at a pawn shop. I'm getting evicted from my home this Monday. I don't have a good job, I havn't made my parents proud. Never forget where you come from. Seeing people like you who have made their dream is what keeps me going every day. I hope to live my dream someday too. You have made some beautiful cars and I look up to you. God bless.
as a kid I cut the door handles off model cars with a razor blade then used sand paper to finish them up I removed the door handles on my first car, a '63 Impala. I wasn't swimming in $ at the time so I had a hidden switch outside to let me lower the electric window then just reached in and opened the door. Didn't have access to a torch so I used window screen and Bondo to fill the holes - it worked and looked good A bit latter when $ started rolling in I put in starter solenoids. that was 100 years ago this summer Ha Ha Ha
Man..... Joe.... I think your dad know you did good....ive seen you work, know about the club (hoping I could join but my bike isn't to y'all level) you've still done good.....even though I could never afford to build my 60 Dart I still love y'all guys!......orale Cleveland and my Ranfla Seymourville Cadillac -1
Joe, I walked the same path that you did. My parents were also disappointed that I didn't make something of myself. I told my mom before she died, if I did mom, I wouldn't be here to help take care of you. After my mom passed I wrote in the card I got for my dad for Fathers Day, "Imitation is the best form of admiration."
Much Respect to U Karnalito , I'm An O.G all so and still have my Low Low and have had a lot and different kinds from Caddies, Trucks, Cutlass, Regals and Now a Euro Lowrider. To me a Lowrider is a Lowrider and the culture is the life........ Stay strong Jente and Much RESPECT 😎👍💯KEEP IT ROLL'N ........ Q-VO
Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of warm water for the blood pressure, my Hispanic brutha. Love the Eldo but the Chevy is just as slick too. Enjoyed your story as well. Lost my mom and my dad a few years ago too so I can relate. Warheads have more in common with each other, regardless of what we work on: I wrench on cars, trucks, buses, locomotives, airplanes...
Why oh why didn't my Eldo look like yours. It was a '71, I had to work on it every weekend and occasional weeknights for the privledge of driving that beauty. 525 inches of smooth horsepower, everything worked, only because iworkexd on everything. My favorite ride overall! You build a beat car!!
Wow Joe great story. I remember that casino car. Growing up I always wanted a low rider had a couple Buick regales on 14” wheels but never build them like your cars.
Funny thing, lowrider stories always go real deep. Really opens mens hearts in conversation somehow. Cool car by the way🙂 Cool dudes too, got their hearts in the right place.
Louie Villa the caprice and Impala were the same car, but i think the impala had an angled quarter glass, but the caprice had that straight cut quarter glass. But I don't know why anyone else hasn't said this?? Is there a Cadillac I missed somewhere??
Man, you really know how to tell a story. 👍 Joe, check out some of the videos Wranglerstar puts out. You guys come from different place on earth but your hearts are in the same place.
when I see lowriders I appreciated the ride; I been to a low rider show and most of them dudes there were all rrespectful and gearheads just as I am. I live near Compton and Gardena ; and I also see gangsters riding all crazy all the time ; Mostly Cholo or Black gangsters rolling around here sitting low and I know this sounds stereotypical but its the truth. I think there are two sides to this identity or call it movement, A good side and a bad side. No disrespect
