I'm fully convinced you're the greatest man on earth Joe. Restoring such a fascinating and historic instrument Is just wonderful. I hope your goofy noises play far, far into the future. Godspeed you magnificent bastard.
This is such an awesome instrument, you would think because of its uniqueness and sound more places would use them - carnivals, circuses, theme parks, cruises etc...Hell I'd pay to see someone like Joe going to town on one of these! I wonder if there's an instructional video on how to use one of these things for posterity so people can learn how to use them in the future! Glad to see Joe healthy during this pandemic.
Joe, this is the best demonstration I've seen of the Photoplayer! Hilarious. In the 1970s I saw one sitting in an old theater in Southern Idaho. The theater was closed (it has since been restored. But the photoplayer is (gone)? I would have followed up on it back then, but 4 years later a 2/8 theater organ was being installed in my home. Followed by 2 small Wurlitzers. I now have a style 260 3/17. Perhaps I should check out the whereabouts of that old 'player' which would save a lot of space! Cheers!
These videos are nothing short of a blessing. I wish there were more of these gems still in use. You truly are a National Treasure. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Shalom from Israel, Joe and Co.! I’m from Israel, and your Fotoplayer, is quite amazing, I wish I can fly ALL THE WAY To the USA to see you, but unfortunately there’s in 2023, well, October 2023, a conflict with Palestine! And y’all are cheering me up!
The last video got me thinking, if someone could reliably get one of those craft cutter machines like the Silhouette set up right and the right type of paper, it may be possible to clone rolls in a semi efficient manner, you’d just need to play with the settings and make sure it feeds the right way, and you could have a way to suddenly mass produce out of print or rare rolls, or if smart enough, convert basic MIDI files to new rolls.
I remember the first time i saw this crazy contraption a couple of years ago, i immediately wanted one, but god knows where i can get one, and i probably couldn't fit it in my house either, hah! Anyway, glad you're staying safe in these trying times, Joe.
Is there any way to contact Mr. Rinaudo directly? I want to personally thank him for all the joy he’s brought me with the videos of him at the fotoplayer
Great performance for that wonderful loural and hardy show now that was 100 times better then a regular player piano performance I've seen for that same show.
And thank you for posting videos on playin your amarican fotoplayer so we can see and hear one and i have learn a lot about it from you and now you made me wish i had one now.
Hello. It's almost that time of year again but no one is locked down this year which is great. However, I do want to wish Joe a very happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Anyway, whoever is in charge of this channel, tell Joe,Keep it up joe. I love the photoplayer. Can you do the cuckoo waltz on that one sometime? Keep that photoplayer running. Don't let it go to waste like all the other ones
Piano de rodillo de aire.... Increíble con sintetizador de tubos de aire.... Simplemente un editor musical mecánico no hay ningún sistema eléctrico y suena perfecto verdaderamente hombre orquesta..

This has to be one of the most cool, neat, unique of instruments. What a treat to hear and see it being played. If this doesn’t put a big smile on your face, you are soulless and dead inside!
It's a wind siren. Remember those siren whistles we got as kids ? It's a larger version with a bellows that pushes air out of it when you pull the cord.
@@garygibson5983 I had completely forgotten about those! Thank you for taking the time to respond! It's such a fun sound effect, I wanna try to make one despite a crippling lack of carpentry skills.
Those things are pouches like bellows that regulate air. It's an air motor which is driven by vacuum. Each pouch closes a little bit and then the next one and the next one like pistons in a car engine. It's what makes the piano rolls spin.
I like this fotoplayer. Reminds me of the Worlds Largest Wurlitzer that have at this restaurant called "Organ Stop Pizza". I wonder if it came from this concept?
Where can I see someone play a wonderful machine like this since I'm into stuff like this and I only listen to songs that Billy Murray, American quortet, herald quortet and ads jones sings and yes I know he is a pianier of phonograph recording and my preferred time period is 1903-1918
I prefer the Edison, US indestructible records, Columbia, and oxford cylinder recordings since they sound better then disc recordings but I still listen to some victor, Colombia, Zonophone,, Berliner, voice of music, and little wonder disc records that doesn't have recording's on cylinders
Since comments are turned off on your video "Joe Rinaudo's Fotoplayer Corona Virus Quarantine Concert" I'll ask here, What are the names of the songs he played, specifically the 1st song he plays? Twelfth Street Rag
Yeah, this is the newest one. (although if you go to fotoplayer joe on facebook he has a page that is open to everyone even if you aren't on facebook) His Fotoplayer is being repaired to some degree...mostly waiting on some custom silicone valves that are being custom made. Joe is fine and impatiently waiting for the valves.
@@imstupidbut The air pressure that is needed to properly run the machine just isn't there. Joe found a few air leaks and rebuilt the pouches but there seems to be some internal leak and he isn't going to tear the machine apart until he moves it from his living room into his theater when he is planning on a complete rebuild of the Fotoplayer. He hasn't rebuilt it since 1976 and it has played near perfectly since then. That's far beyond the lifespan of a machine like this.
@@raistlinmills131 while there were specific models made, style 15, 20, 25...thru to the largest style 50, there was lots of customization on each model so you might have a style 31 or so. That's the best answer I can give. I was with Joe when we met the Vanvulkenberg family and was able to see some of their archival material with original factory photos.
I set the videos up on this RU-vid channel and when I put them up it asks a question if it is for adults or children. How am I supposed to answer that. The video is for everybody, but I thought it meant if it was suitable for children. I clicked the box for children and posted the video. A while layer I visited it again and noticed the comments were turned off. I did some investigating and found that if the video is for children the comments are automatically turned off. Go figure.
@@garygibson5983 If you select “made for children”, it also recommends videos from the children’s category. But luckily you’re able to change this setting even after you’ve published the video.
