You can really tell time and time again that Dave loved Cliff, kind of how he always had a soft spot for James but I feel Cliff was like a brother to him
I bet not, dave is a narcissist that says whatever makes him come across better, he knew cliff for mere months and after he was booted from the band had no contact with cliff besides jives in the press
Orion is the reason I became a musician I heard the bass lines and just couldn’t not believe how much the bass guitar made that song. Best instrumental of all time..
@John H I don’t know if I would say Orion is the best song but it’s up there is everything else I agree 100% although Jason Newstead is underrated both as a bassist and is a vocalist
@@jorgex9789 bro so the fuck would you 😂 your kidding yourself if you wouldn’t mention it the rest of your life. Shit my pops lost 10g’s one night and he talks about it to this day 😂 can only imagine
Cliff was a legend. And the Orion break when Dave says it man holy shit sadness and chills. BEST MUSICAL PLACEMENT ON ANY SHORT YOU DID GREAT WORK I LOVE YOU
I discovered Metallica in 1985 when I was in 8th grade. When Cliff died he had no idea how many lives he had touched and how many people were going to miss him
It's crazy how ahead of his time Cliff was and how instrumental he was in shaping the best Metallica songs. It's too bad Cliff never got to see how reveared he became in the music world. R.I.P. Cliff.
He did mention it in one interview where him and James were both being interviewed. Cliff said that Dave's attitude made it very hard to check out what Dave was doing
Well, Dave was very angry about getting fired, especially in a way he did and he did say a bunch of bad shit in interviews...there are some on yt from 84, it was also not unusual to hear crowd chanting "Kirk sucks" at the end of a Megadeth set. So yeah, they probably were friends in Metallica, Cliff sounds like a likable guy with no hate in him. Cliff just said "its hard to like somebody that talks a lot of shit about you (Metallica)". He couldnt even be bothered bcoz of it, class act.
Yeah I remember that day like it was yesterday when Cliff passed. It was gut wrenching . So glad I had the opportunity to see him play live two times. He was one of a kind. 😢
Besides being a friend. Dave realized when he was 19 how good cliff was and looking back at him in his 60’s probably gives him more perspective to what a tragedy it was losing him.
Love you Dave. Being able to see you guys live was on my bucket list. My son William and I did it . Long live Rock and,Roll. Baby Best concert ever and I've seen many.
It’s funny that Joe Rogan would think Dave’s ego is bruised still about the band replacing him. He should’ve had more insight to know it’s all about Cliff. But then again he’s a famous person that just gets to interview whoever he wants without really having to be on his A game as an interviewer.
Ya know. Id met Dave's daughter Electra at a friends show in Nashville last year (22') , she's a singer jut like her Dad except Id say even more talented, but they are such smart wonerful people and so down to earth. Itd have been easy for her to be a rock diva if she wanted but thats totally not the case. Were all part of the Apocalyptic Apes nft holders so that was how we was lumped in together. Soon Megadeth digital will be launching its own nft collection and I cant wait to see what they make available for the holders. They also recently launched House of Mustaine Wine which is kinda unique, such business minded folks.
I wasn't alive back when Cliff died but when i figured out later on that he died and how he died i was quite saddened by it. To this day if i could travel back in time to meet one person it would be Cliff to learn from him on how to play bass because he's my main inspiration for picking one up aside from Lemmy, Newsted, and a couple others.
Cliff'em All is one of the best band videos. It's the only VHS tape I still own, and no matter the fact I have no way of playing it, ill never get rid of it!
You can still pick up VHS players online, at legacy hardware stores, even seen them in some pawn shops (and a few of those record a DVD from a VHS tape machine they use to make for those who wanted to convert home movies or that old, obscure, low budge, B-move (take your pick) VHS movie they never made into a DVD)
@@smkxodnwbwkdns8369 wrong; Cliff is the one who trashed Dave in the press. It’s literally on a video interview from 1986 with James/Cliff Also they were friends and rode to rehearsals together and composed Call of Ktulu together
@@brianvos6394 to be that sad over someone you knew for about three months is disingenuous. and in cliff’s own words he said dave was talking bad about him, do you know better than cliff? and he was full of anger and hatred for being fired, the narcissist he was, cliff was almost certainly in on the decision to let him go.
@@brianvos6394 You know better than cliff who mentioned that! and to be traumatized over someone you know for a couple months is disingenuous and appears to me its yet another way to impose himself closer association to Metallica than he was which was just a guitar player that wrote a few riffs
So You know better than Dave??? So you automatically take Cliffs version of events?? They knew each other more than three months also. They met in mid 1982 and Dave was fired April 1983 Why the bashing?? Your the one calling people names you haven’t met… I love Cliff and didn’t bash him. Your the one going off on Dave for some weird reason
Orion and Battery are my two favorite Metallica songs. Orion is definitely a deep cut. When it comes on after Leper Messiah it’s very unexpected. They just suddenly turn in another direction. I wonder if it was meant to be an instrumental track from the start, or if it was left incomplete when Cliff died.
Cliff and kirk drew cards that night for the bunks, if kirk would have drawn the ace of spades ♠️ then cliff would have survived that accident it would be kirk not here today
Dave loved Cliff Burton....if Dave Mustaine loves you he truly loves you ..I Dave Mustaine doesn't love you . ..you will know it ..he doesn't mince words. .
For context, they were in the same band for a few months, 40 years ago. Obviously people can form bonds really quick, and maybe they remained friends afterwards, but I wonder how close they really were.
A few months?? More like 11 months to a year. A whole year, spending almost every second of it with someone isn’t the same as simply knowing someone for a year.
@@holdtightadele8017 Ron quit Metallica on 10 December 1982; Cliff's first show with Metallica was March 1983. Even if he joined straight away, he would have been in the band with Dave for 4 months, as Dave left on 11 April 1983. So no, not a year, not even close.
I remember back when I was fourteen and Megadeath played in sacramento at the eldorado saloon on fair oaks Blvd I gave Dave a 2⁰dollar bag of meth that he asked for he gave me a hand full of pick and ran back to the bus and that was it we enjoyed the show
How can it not? He had no family wxcept then. Imagine if you sat at the table with your family when you were a child. Then your dad told you. "Leave us, we have replaced you qith another better more perfect son than you" can you imagine how that would crush your hearth?
@@ArturHedlund I agree 100% no matter how much success he had w/ megadeath , that pain of being kicked to the curb will never go away. Personally I think it was bitch move and I have no respect for Lars when it comes to the Dave situation. I mean come on dave broke a dudes leg bc he was bullying Lars and then they use it aginst him.not cool!
@@mcpewpew8267 dave is a narcissist. if metallica was another failed band he was in he wouldnt care. the only pain was a missed opportunity of being in a huge band.
i swear he really doesnt mean that. if you REALLY get to see who he really is i truly think him thinking about cliff is total bs and is only saying to try and get some recognition from metallica
I like Kirk hammett a lot but they probably should’ve kept Dave. I mean, maybe kicking him out might have saved his life…? I mean, he was sorta kinda doing pretty bad with the alcohol… either way, Dave would’ve had incredible guitar parts on those albums. I like megadeth but I would’ve rather had those songs on Metallica albums. Mustaine/Hetfield could’ve been the next Lennon/McCartney. The members of megadeth would’ve undoubtedly found other successes if dave never formed megadeth. I think it’s clear that dave doesn’t blame cliff for his own firing as much as he blames James and Lars. They’re known to be assholes, just look at how they treated Jason newstead. Just despicable behavior and the way they fired dave was irresponsible and reprehensible. Even though they were kids at the time, I would never have treated somebody that badly. Not even in my early 20’s. Cliff must’ve been a genuinely good person because dave still respects him, even with all of the bitterness. Cliff would’ve had to have been a saint to survive being in a band with both Lars ulrich AND Dave mustaine. Especially during the heyday of Dave mustaine’s heavy alcohol use plus, James and Lars was also drinking heavily too. If lars was the way he was 20 years ago, imagine what he must’ve been like at 20 years old. Scary stuff.
he was alive but when they pulled the bus up something went wrong and it fell back on him, after his death Kirk was woken up early in the morning to James Hatfield in the streets outside of the hotel room screaming “CLIFF, WHERE ARE YOU” this is sad
Joe is so ignorant here of the totality of Cliffs passing. He has no clue. Not saying he didn’t care but clearly didn’t read the room or any of Metallica’s early years.
Dave's still trying to talk shit in Guitar World magazine. Cliff kicked him out of the band just as much as the other guys as well. If he was still alive he'd be talking shit about him as well, garanteed.
It was fate that sent Dave a different way. If he weren't "fired" he would have left on his own after Cliff died. If Cliff had lived he would have parted ways with Lars a long time ago, and probably be playing in Megadeth. Cliff and Dave relentlessly pursued playing their instruments to the fullest. Lars has never progressed past kill em all. They would have outgrown him years ago.
He was a kid who was kicked out of the band he had put his heart, and soul into, just for that band to be come the most popular metal band ever. I’d be angry to. He’s learned to live with it in recent years tho
