The man’s record was 887-2. One of those losses was his swansong at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the gold medal match which he lost by one point because Rulon Gardner was simply too big to lift and they had literally changed the rules to make Karelin less dominant. Karelin incurred a single point penalty and that was how Gardner won. Prior to that, no one had even scored a single point against him for 6 YEARS. He won three Olympic gold medals, 9 World Championship gold medals, 12 Europeans Championship gold medals, 1 World Cup gold medal and a bunch of junior gold medals. It is no exaggeration to say the Karelin is probably the most dominant athlete of all time.

Throw hay. Bales and bales of it. I'm only six foot and I'm what most would consider slim. But when I played college ball I kept up with or out lifted guys way bigger than me. It's farm work. Get an axe and cut down trees by hand, dig trenches, whatever. Lifting weights makes you big but it's labor what makes you strong. You do both and you get to do something really special, at least for awhile.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I may be mis-remembering, but I'm pretty certain that I read a few years back that Karelin also had a PHD, spoke 4 or 5 languages, studied rocketry, and a successful career in politics as well? I'm sure I got a few things wrong, but if I did, I think it's in that his actual accomplishments outside of wrestling were far more impressive than what I wrote above. I'd love if someone who has the details corrects me here. Either way, this is one impressive human.
