It is a misconception that you need 2 talkers to generate interest with shit-talking. The best examples are McGregor vs. Aldo and Sonnen vs. Silva. Both fights had HUGE interest generated due to trash-talk, but both were totally one-sided.
True but you aren't making the comparison between Silva/Aldo and Lawler. Lawler is a guy who falls asleep during the post-fight press conference because he literally gives zero fucks whereas Silva and Aldo are both pretty emo. It would be wasted effort on Askren's side because it won't have any effect on Lawler.
I actually agree with Schaub. I would've way preferred Till for Askren to fight. Unfortunately Colby is spoken for, or that would've been ideal. With all of the momentum of Askren's arrival, he could've made an even bigger splash w one if the many people he called out when he arrived. Lawler feels kind of like a letdown, no disrespect to Robbie.
Nick Taylor lol till is skilled, why would you not want to watch him fight? He has slick striking with an unusual stance thats interesting to watch, good power. Whats annoying about him?
I gotta admit, i agree with Brendan. Its not that hes encouraging negativity or anything like that, but a fight becomes more than just another regular fight when you throw in some suspense added by drama. Look at the Khabib - Mcgregor fight and the DC - Jones fights, those are 2 of the most iconic fights of this era and its mostly because of the real beef that was brewed before the fight. Humanity loves drama, point blank period. Sorry Joe, but if it means anything, im usually on your side lol 💯
I watched a ONE FC event with Askren fighting. He was getting tuned-up by a kickboxer, and in desperation Askren poked him in the eye. The fight was called no contest on an 'accidental' eye poke. He never rematched the dude. I was not impressed.
You 100% should give him a fighter who will talk shit to him. That's what builds hype, that's what makes your casuals watch. If you can sell a wrestler to the casuals, you've won. Brendan was right.
Why they are underestimating Colby that much, Colby is a good wrestler infact wrestling is his speciality. Many people might not like him but it doesn't change how good he is a fighter specially performances against Damian and RDA

I love Askren and want him to do great but I think Lawler is the worst matchup for him, Lawler has great takedown defence especially compared to Til and Thompson

This is a test. Is he at the UFC's level (duh). Throwing him in with Colby or Till and he either gets outworked by the former or deaded by the latter does nothing for Askren in the future. Lawler sells fights on 'There Will be Blood', lets see if Askren is a bigger Khabib. Then you start with the promos and build toward a Khabib fight.
