Louis Theroux is best known for his documentaries in the television series "Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends" and "When Louis Met...", as well as his Louis Theroux's BBC Two specials.
Louis Theroux has a unique style, he manages to be respectful to the subject manner while still exposing what needs to be exposed. He also seems to have no ego which is very disarming and helps people open up to him even though they know what he is up to. Just a genuinely good bloke.
I would love to hear a 2-3 hour podcast between Louis and Duncan Trussell. IMO they both tick all the boxes for an ideal podcast guest - kind souls, super interesting stories, engaging, highly intelligent, humble and funny. They’re like RU-vid unicorns….😂
@@roodog430 His father Paul Theroux would be a an excellent guest. Love his travel books and he has experience teaching in Africa so he knows where the aid money from the west ends up. He also has a low opinion on the 'so called' charitable organisations such as the Rockefeller Foundation.
I don’t know if you’ll ever read this but I went to a Scientology’s meeting and reading in Toronto in 1974 , I am now 63 and still receive mailings from them every other year
Dumbleduke , yes in 1974 I signed up, I followed for about 3-4 months and found it was not for me, actually called my contact and told him I was out, not for me, some things were informative, to each his own.
Yes! I think he makes such amazing films. L Ron Hubbard was bat shit crazy..he was a lying piece of shit. Even lying to everybody about everything. Even lying about his time in the war.. google the guy. I think all religion is completely ridiculous but scientology is so crazy
I love his interview technique, he just keeps going and sort of disarms his guests then they catch on and he has to find another way in and he does that several times in the documentary, it makes for great TV and is very entertaining❤❤✌
James Jones karl pilkington would never go to America to do a podcast. He doesnt like doing interviews or things like that, after his show thats coming out later this year he will bank the cash n go back into living a normal life.
@ 1:24:34 I was also impressed with his ability to just throw out an almost perfect Tom Cruise voice. I sat my pipe down and looked at the screen just to make sure it wasn't really TC. Great job Louis Theroux
34:00 It doesn't matter what Charlie Hebdo's point was. You don't have a right to murder someone because your feelings are hurt. There is no gray area. YOU CAN'T MURDER SOMEONE BECAUSE THEY OFFENDED YOU! End of discussion. Thanks for making that clear in the end.
Stunt Panda Think Louis was trying to frame a devils advocate argument then quickly thought better of it. It's clear that neither of them think that it is in any way shape or form justified. His only point was that being murdered doesn't automatically validate a position which is correct but I agree he was a bit ham handed about it.
Louis pisses me off. He just doesn't have enough material out there to keep me satisfied. I can not get enough of him. Funniest and smartest journalist ever.
Louis Theroux is one of the best journalists in the world. He's one of the last honest, real, unbiased journalists whose only goal is to give his viewers the truth.
@@GasFinger1 If i remember correctly, the Ancient Greeks used to vote a for any citizen in their city to become the leader for a term, whether they wanted to or not. In this way, corruption was reduced.
@@JenniferGonzalez-gx5qv My Ancient Greek Teacher told me the quote, I guess he got it from Connolly as well, because I googled it and it's attributed to Billy
Watching Louis Theroux speak is like crack . Everything he says is balanced and well worth hearing. The guy could have a nuanced opinion on tooth brushing technique and I'd listen.
Or "they were a loner" - with the exception of Fred West, every time he went to the pub he said "I could murder a Tennent" - only Scottish people would get that one.
Nerd corner - Louis is wearing a Casio F-91W digital watch, originally released in 1989 and still in production - available for around $10 or £7 from your favourite retailer
@@kelvinbedford6487 Lol true - I’ve been through a few myself. You can actually buy 3rd party replacement straps for £3.30 from Amazon UK, or genuine Casio only from Amazon US for $12.99. No currency conversion attempted! Either way you have to question if it’s worth it and just get a new watch. Perhaps even consider an ‘upgrade’ to the plastic body stainless steel strapped A158WA, for around £20 / $18. Or the full resin made to look metal but way cooler looking F91WM! About £$18. One thing Casio certainly deliver are tons of options for cheap, good, retro digitals. Wonder how many straps Louis’ been through
Louie is extremely articulate. He’s never too wordy, never sounds like he’s trying to sound smart, and practically every word he says is used perfectly.
One thing I particularly like about these podcasts is that there's a great conversation going on and I'm invested, but then I go to look at how much of it is left and I'm not even half way through - feels like I have such a treat left before me after having gotten so much.
Louis is HANDS DOWN the best documentary maker ever. The guy actually got liposuction on his documentary on plastic surgery. Get him back on the show!!
@A Glass of Freshly Squeezed Ass Juice he had a series called 'When Louis met' back at the turn of the century and did an episode with Saville. He became sort of friends with him in a way. Kept in contact and saw each other occasionally but nothing major from what Louis says. Saville was a master manipulator though and Louis talks in a documentary called 'Saville' which he released a few years ago, after everything came out. No reason to not ask him about the bloke though. Seems very open about Saville when asked
Louis has his style of doing docos... admittedly his more serious stuff is not playing on that sorta ' naive, timid, polite ' Englishman thang, but both his "entertainment" docos and his more serious topic docos really show his intelligence in truth gathering... i fkn love his stuff
Matt Crawley yeah wtf? Dude I’m not on the left or right and I find this guy is absolutely one of the most normal, in a good way, and rational guys I’ve ever listened to on the podcast. He is very understandable and understanding. Edit: sorry I’m agreeing with you lol idk why I’m preaching
My sister worked as Tom and Nichole's gardener in Sydney. She said he was short...5' 4"...and very rude. She said Tom reminded her of "Dicky Knee", an Australian "icon" from the former show "Hey, Hey, It's Saturday...(Daryl Summers Show)...😂
This guy comes off as one of the most friendly approachable people ever. I love people like this, you can detect that there isn’t a bad faith bone In his body

Did u see Louis' fuckin change in his projection when he became Tom cruise??? It was absolutely genius. I love when joe asks for the second round of impression and Louis goes right back into it. Rewound it 50 times
1:35:55 True. We notice our own flaws in others..sometimes only on a subconscious level. Therefore, when we state, "..there was just something about that guy I didn't like." , its probably something you need to own. Not always, but enough to be worth some thought. Remember this oldie, "If you point your finger at another, there are 3 pointing back at you."? Good stuff.
This is my first experience with Louis Theroux... I’ve got to find some of his documentaries, now! I feel like I’m listening to my best friend tell me about his wild experience over the summer!
You definitely have to check out his doco's! I've seen them all, some of them I've seen way more than once. I'm a huge Louis fan! I've never watched this Joe dude before. I'm only watching it because Louis is on it
Kristi you have a real treat in front of you when you start watching his docs. He does a brilliant one on Thai brides. This was one of his earlier ones I think. Then of course there is the Jimmy Savile one. So many interesting docs. M Kennedy.
I love Louis Theroux, he is so open minded and you can tell somethings clearly go against his belief, but he still listens to others point of view. Incredible.
Leah Remini says she wrote a Knowledge Report on Tom Cruise for ‘that’ incident. She said that he was ‘jumping on couches and being inappropriate’. I love that. 👍🏻
Attenborough copied Americans Richard? How the fuck did you work that out? Attenborough was doing docs on the BBC in Black and white and BBC nature docs are the best in the world fact. Name a single American nature doc better than BBC? It doesn't exist you moron.
Nat Geo and Discovery wish they could make an Attenborough nature doc. They copy everything he does at a poorer level. Go and watch Planet Earth 2 and come back to me about what the BBC copied from American nature docs. The BBC are the Elite in the field.
Watching this in March 2024, and its fascinating that I remember my state of mind when I watched it 7 years ago- its trippy how much has changed in that time. 7 years ago, things hadnt started to get crazy yet. Id love to jump into this episode as its being made, to blow both of their minds with whats about to happen. Theyd think i was crazy...
I read an article interviewing Tom Cruise a few years ago, and it was pretty favorable, the reporter went to one of his homes and told what they spent the day doing, etc. And then in the last paragraph, he talked about when he was leaving, he was just feeling so good, felt like he and Tom had made a real connection, that he'd got some great material, etc. Then it hit him as Tom turned to go and he walked to his car...he'd never even been invited inside. He spent the whole day with him, outside. And he just thought that was kind of a metaphor for the whole experience--Tom kept his walls up, even while making you feel like he's your best friend. Just stuck with me.
A journalist is not a total stranger. He represents an institution. He had to ask for permission.Third pretty sure Tom gets to pick the location. Forth Tom has bodyguards. Fifth are you a Scientologist?
OGSpaceCadet we most likely never see the crazy shit going on inside his homes...just the fact celebrities have more than 1 home is fucked up enough ..lol
The Church of Latter Day Saints turns bat sh#t crazy when you actually read about their founder, Joseph Smith who wrote Book of Mormons as a horny 24 year old.
As someone who was raised Mormon, that's so true. People that are Mormon don't read into all the stuff out there that doesn't make sense and is contradictory in the LDS religion. But it's not just the Mormon religion, it's been all the religions i've looked into.
@@user-tk5fi1my5i I was around Scientology for two years.. it isn't a religion it's a dicipline. Never saw the word Love in print, it never referred to itself as some kind of path to spiritual enlightenment and if JC is mentioned, I didn't see it.
When you hear that Joseph Smith's encounter with this "Angel", called 'Moroni', you'd have to be a Real moron to believe anything in Mormonism, or Scientology for that matter(if you think critically, you can see that Scientology is full of Falsehoods, Fantasy and overall just Bad for the followers, who've been taken in by control-freaks. ).
Bernard Curtin yep and banging teenagers as young as 14 after threatening their families that an angel with a flaming sword would kill them all if they didn’t hand her over
This is the first JRE I have listened to. I have read so many tweets etc disparaging Mr Rogan and after listening here I cannot understand why. He comes across as intelligent and is a great interviewer allowing Louis to speak and also making great points. I have subscribed!
@@dashdashdash_ OK, but so far so good, I cannot find anything to dislike about him, he seems fair to me and as a martial artist, I find myself akin to him somewhat!
@@dashdashdash_ please explain, because joe’s interview style is superb. I don’t know who the inner circle of the internet is but I’ll bet not one is as successful as Joe.
@@suziecreamcheese211 I would direct you towards Matthew North (who did a 3 hour documentary), Redbar or Porsalin (who did a 1hr documentary) if you wish to know more. however I am more interested in why you have retorted to a typical A-Logger response, what does popularity have to do with shady antics, has history taught you nothing?
If you haven't watched any of Louis' documentaries, start with the Westboro Baptist Church documentary and follow the rabbit hole. Louis has this way of trolling people without being too obvious.
Internet Police in an odd way sometimes he is very blatant with hanging shit, he just does it when he knows his subject is much too stupid to understand. Like when he corrected that dude about Jesus being a Jew.
Joe Rogan is a great interviewer with a great thirst for knowledge and an condiment consummate professional. He never writes it in and does a lot of research on his guests which is a great sign of respect to his guests.
This is a great podcast. Recently I've been watching a few of Louis documentaries and I've found them really interesting as well as Louis style of journalism. This podcast was a great way of "getting to know him" a little better. The way he articulates his ideas, his opinions and how he's thinking. I'm fascinated by how humble he seems all while maintaining a highly objective attitude while using sharp analyzes to present his point.
New subscriber here. I had no idea Joe Rogan is such a well thought out, deep and very articulate person. I agree with a lot of what he says and he does a great job of carrying on a conversation with a lot of really interesting, smart people. I'm glad I started watching.
He manages to put this ridiculous organisation down, really whipping out the rug from under their feet, in a gentle and funny way. Who doesn't love Louis 🙂
Hearing Louis speak always gives me the warm feeling of hanging out with a friend...that is pretty special. I get a similar feeling from Ricky Gervais, Louis CK and Brian Cox, too.
