Mayweather wasn't being slapped around with combinations in both hands and never had his right hand taken away from him. Mayweather with his defense could shut you down and simplify your fight strategy. while all this is happening he's hitting a jab, little combination, couple counters, pot shotting, making you miss, etc. Watch mayweather's fights. Watch Mayweather fight Canelo actually. Mayweather did GGG's game 1 million times better, but you'd give that fight to ggg on the merit that he had more jabs landed like its the basketball arcade game at Chucki Cheese. Canelo dominated
@@pvnchos1478 they don't care that Canelo will dominate a round for over 2 minutes. his power punches, combinations, counters, and defense don't mean shit lol apparently
Ronald Quin wtf. Mayweather shit canelo down. It wasn’t even competitive. That fight changed Canelo for the better tho. The judges will score a power shot over 3 jabs it’s just they way it is
Who's the bigger cash cow for the boxing industry? The fighter at the end of his career in his late 30's or the younger guy who can continue to sell out arenas and sell millions of ppv's for the next 5+ years? GGG was only going to win by TKO/KO.
@Alfred Stanback I think Canelo lost the first ggg fight, but definitely won the second. He’s defeated Daniel Jacobs and Callum Smith who was arguably the best super middleweight at the time. He then defeated an out of his prime kovalev, who was still regarded as the best LHW at the time. I’m not a big Canelo fan, but dang is it hard to argue against his recent accomplishments. Now he’s preparing to fight Saunders. If Canelo wins this, the only person he has left to fight is Beterbiev or however you spell his name. Andrade and Charlo should both fight it out, they both have been avoiding any real competition hoping Canelo looks their way.
@DanTheMan GGG Canelo first fight was definitely not a draw, the second fight was closer to a draw (Canelo winning was a justifiable decision). Canelo had his back on the ropes the whole first fight, he’d work for 30 seconds then take the rest of the round off while Golovkin had him back peddling the whole fight
I met Teddy personally in a beach town one time. It was an amazing experience. I always admired his opinion me being a life long boxing fan. I was working at Verizon one day and heard the unmistakable voice of Teddy Atlas to my left. I turned around and there he was talking to his friend. I said, “Are you Teddy?” Before I could finish he said, “Atlas.” He was such a humble man. We talked a little boxing. When he shook my hand before leaving, it was like shaking a hand of steel. He wasn’t flexing at all. This guy is the real thing, no joke. You just automatically feel naturally comfortable around this guy when talking to him. He is such a genuinely nice guy.
I agree with Teddy, I thought GGG won both fights. But the second fight was very close, and 117-112 for GGG is a bit wide. He’s right, that judges award “aggression” too much, and for me much of the fight Canelo was in affective. I had it 116-114 for GGG and that was being generous to Canelo
And you can see the double standard s again, first fight GGG was the agresor and punching cheatnello through the ring and it's a draw, second fight cheatnello landed a couple shot's,he is in their eyes clearly the agresor and won the fight. They such ruined boxing so badly that the people are more and more looking to MMA
I used to think so also. He’s a brilliant mind and a deep thinker. Listen to his whole interview. Yeah, he rambles but when he gets to the point, he really nails it.
By far Teddy deserves a lot of RESPECT because he has openly called out the injustices done to fighters. He makes it a point to address things on the spot. He has called the sport of Boxing out for being bias and unfair. He loves the fighters and what they sacrifice to get where they are. He doesn’t back promoters and the social aspect of selling a fight. He sees the sport for what the fighters put in and do in the ring. Joe, I’ve become a big fan of yours over the years. I appreciate your eye on more than just sports. I loved the 2nd fight greatly. I did not appreciate the unprofessionalism GGG showed by leaving the ring but I also am not GGG and I don’t know the emotions he was feeling at that very moment when losing the fight so I can not appreciate it but I can not condemn him for it. Real people have real emotions and this sport has a huge toll on fighters mentally as well as physically. Great job by both fighters. I’ve watched the fight 4 times and loved it every time. We couldn’t have asked for a more action packed fight.
Imagine being robbed in the first fight. No one can honestly say that was a draw by any standard. And then the second fight, which GGG definitely did enough to win that fight, gets robbed a second time. I’d you want to say the second fight was a draw I’d be fine with that. But Canelo did not win either of those fights and 100% lost the first one.
Originally I scored this fight 116-114 for Golovkin. Then I rewatched it and had it 117-113 for Golovkin. I then analysed the punches and then rescored it 115-114 for Golovkin. It could have been a Draw, but I think GGG deserved the win. Canelo didn’t win this fight
First fight had fewer swing rounds and it ended up with a draw with one judge having it extremely wide for Canelo. Second fight had a lot more swing rounds and Canelo seems to have received all of those and two definitive rounds that should have favored Golovkin
In the first fight GGG was the effective aggressor and should have won; in the second fight, he decided to box (mainly) and should have won on volume of punches landed. Two questionable decisions -- well, outright robbery. Anyone might imagine there was an element of corruption in boxing. Well, whoda thunk it?!
“He decided to box” yeah no he didn’t 😂 he didn’t have a choice canelo pushed him back the entire fight, out worked him n out landed him. I can understand someone thinking ggg won by a round but robbery? Have a day off canelo was hitting him clean all night long n also did great body work while ggg neglected the body completely. No one can complain about canelo getting the win. GGG won the first fight n slightly showed his age in the second
@@slickdon1 It was a long time ago. I'd argue that GGG won the first bout by a margin and Canelo did enough to win the second. There was a crazy woman judge in the first fight who may have surprised even Canelo.
I just think it’s interesting that ever time someone goes the distance with Golovkin that they “ obviously “ beat him. You can’t knock out everyone!! That’s why there’s a point system. I’m a little “Old School “. ... I believe you have to beat the champ convincingly to take the title.
Aaron Chambers get the fuck outta here robbed my ass he wasn’t robbed the second fight at all I don’t give a fuck what you say rewatch it until you get it right stop being biased I saw the fight 10 fucking times it could have gone either way nobody got robbed
I was always told snapping someones head back with jabs causes the lower back to tighten up. At a point in the fight canelo started stretching his back in between rounds and continued doing this the rest of the fight.
@@jacobdestern4288 except I am denying that he won the second one. Triple G got hosed because he was older and on the way out, the only reason canelo was able to get the draw and ultimately the “win”
@@pillcosby3949 Canelo heavily outlanded GGG in both Body shots and Total Power punches during the second fight. And walked him down the entire time. There’s absolutely no way you could give that fight to GGG 😂
I'm a huge GGG fan. He clearly won the first fight with effective aggressiveness and accurate jabbing throughout the contest. With that having been said, Canelo clearly won this fight.
@@juanjosevazquez8065 Yea, too bad most of the boxing community is a echo chamber and saying the contrary means you're a casual or don't know shit about boxing.
That's how I saw it too man, shame GGG didn't get his victory in the first fight.. the path to a trilogy would've been a lot smoother if it was 1 to 1... Hopefully they'll end up fighting, who knows?
559 MAKAVELI DISCIPLE I think ggg is too old. He’s slowed down, big time imo. I thought first fight went ggg. Second was a draw favoring ggg. I like both tho
@@juancena8329 yeah, okay. He 100% lost the 1st 7 rounds. Go back and watch the fight... or ask Abel Sanchez why he told him he was losing the fight. How are you gonna cry about mexican style for a year, call someone out and then run... especially when GGG was the natural 160. Sorry, bro.
G boxed around canelo.bcanelo never drove him back. Last time I checked, canelo was backing up in the ropes. Not G. and canelo was the one that was hurt in the fight.
@@poppat3238 I like how you completely skip over the first fight because we all know that was a clear robbery, the second one was closer but GGG still outboxed him and the fight and round stats reflect that. Sure he didn’t walk them down but real boxers do whatever it takes to win, if Mayweather made a career out of winning using jabs and landing soft punches then GGG definitely won the second fight too. Also the “natural 160” comment is a bs excuse because canelo always fought smaller opponents at 155 and only went up 5 pounds for this fight with a clause for GGG so that he couldn’t weigh more than 160 even on fight night, and canelo was visibly the fuller more muscular framed fighter (who has even fought at 175). Face it, canelo needed PEDs, crooked judges, a lot of time to duck and avoid and wait for GGG to get older, an 8 YEAR youth advantage (HUGE in boxing) just to stand a chance and get a controversial win.
if I were GGG, I would take 2 more money fights: Charlo and Canelo. He will destroy Charlo and will probably lose to Canelo on a controversial split decision. Get your money champ and run far from away from the corrupt world of boxing.
What Atlas didn't mention when talking about "the easy route" is how in Boxing they take "the easy route" and give it to the guy who walks forward and that they agve it to Canelo this time for it, but did not give it to GGG in the first fight despite Canelo was walking backwards the whole fight. A lack of consistency... glad he talk about the boxing corruption in this same podcast!
Jujhar Bling everytime i watch teddy atlas speak, he has this way about him where i just want to shut up, and listen to everything hes got to say! Hes so interesting and opinionated. He has a view on everything, but more importantly, his views are always original. Like an artist, he takes in what he sees, and then shares his views and opinions in a very deep way to the world. Im so glad hes on JRE! He should be regular guest
@@Wendigo922 Nah. GGG outboxed him. And you say that GGG was gassed by the 7th round yet he's the one who won all of the late rounds and almost KO'd Canelo in those rounds.
Haha..he has respect for ybe sport? Your a fool as well. You ever hear him shit on the sport or accuse boxers of cheating w no PROOF? or you just happen to miss that? He is A prejudice old man..leaving in the past.
He did control the space and showed superior command and boxing . He did this after everyone said he can do nothing but come forward. Gennady is the only person to do this to Alvarez. Robbed and it's driving me from the sport
@@ТодорСтаматов-ъ4я I agree with you. I think GGG got robbed. The second fight I scored the same as Teddy. No one gives credit for golovkins jabs. It's not like those are pawing jabs they were strong stiff jabs. He fought like the taller longer boxer should.
@@Karimkarim-bj4gi Seriously? You are joking are you not? or do you know fu** all about fighting? The jab is the most important in boxing it sets everything else up. For a start it provides distance and makes the opponent defend. Muhammad Ali used his jab like no other as he threw it from low down because its hard to see coming
All constructive criticism are ok but I remember when Canelo ggg 1 happened teddy got laugh and said that it was a robbery for ggg , when ggg sergy fought he had a total different reaction you can tell who he likes as a fighter
Canelo/GGG 2 post fight... Canelo’s so 90% of the people watching excluding so called boxing experts couldn’t catch the dog shit ass beating he put on G 😂
Uzair Waheed that’s what I’m saying. Lol you got to take what females say when it comes to sport with a grain of salt man. Most of the time they don’t know what they’re talking about and are just repeating what their boyfriend said
@@Ramirezbaby24 When I watched it live I though it was a draw or a close decision either way. I wasn’t mad Canelo won bu GGG needed that W in major way.
@@juanbravo2314 Excuses!? Golovkin was fucking robbed. It doesn't matter who you like or root for. If you're a boxing fan, and you're objective, like real boxing fans ought to be, you already know who won. I'd be saying the same damn thing if Alvarez was the recipient of these bad scores. Christ, get real.
GGG won the first. Then they made him fight Alvarez again. Just didn't look like GGG thought it would be fair. Pretty sad when they called it a draw bc suddenly jabs don't matter.
So let me explain something to those of you just counting the power punches, boxing does not work that way. Clean punches and power shots count. Power shots can outweigh a jab, however the number of power shots has to be close to the number of jab and it wasn’t. Skill wins fights, Canelo didn’t show up to fight he showed up to survive and get the nod.
Andrew Morisseau look it up bro I’m not telling lies, he said after the fight canelo deserved that win. I was impressed I thought ggg was going to win and I had canelo up by the end of the fight.
Damn Deal Done don’t be a moron. Spread lies? You can literally look up Sanchez saying it on RU-vid? After the fight he said canelo deserved the win and respect to him and his team. I expected ggg to win the second fight like he won the first, but to my surprise canelo won a solid fight. If you don’t box don’t speak on it because right now you sound like a ggg fangirl. Go away kid
@@seanpiersonjr8964 his last comment says 7 months ago, this one said 3 months ago.. That means he wrote this one 4 months later,, you wrote 3 months later .. Just an observation.
The important tool for a boxer is the liver shot, ko punch, upper cut, and the power punch. But most people end up focusing on what themselves can throw. There have been many boxers that forget they have more tools. That is why a good coach is better than a jab...Khan was ko by Canelo because of bad instructions by his coach. no instructions is worse Check it out... Many ko happen that way.
Wouldn't it be great if they put the rules for judging up before every fight? Power shot Strong jab Body shot Defensive technique Aggression Etc and made a clear demarcation of what is valued in these
With Canelo, you'll have to knock him out to beat him now. He'll never lose on the cards, too many people making money off him. And even if you do KO him, they'll give him a 20 count and smelling salts.
@@austinroccaro2219 With a Knockdown for GGG in that fight, Jacobs would have needed to win 8 rounds to win the fight. He didn't. The most generous you can be to Jacobs is to give him 6 rounds, but then that's still a win for Golovkin, since he has 6 rounds and a knockdown. Same for Derevyanchenko. Golovkin put them both on their arses, so even though they both fought well, neither of them won the 8 rounds they needed after the knockdowns. This is why Golovkin took both fights.
I think canelo won the second fight clearly but it was decently close....and the second fight I thought was pretty close. Canelo always lands the CLEANER shots
ESCOEXCLUSIVE canelo was on the ropes and GGG threw 30 punches to land 4 while canelo would land one. Then he would circle and go back to leaning in the ropes. In the second fight, GGG consistently threw the jab and circled around and went right back to the center of the ring and continued to stay active and throw punches. where as in the first fight canelo looked like he was willing to throw punches for 1 min and let GGG continue to outworked him for the other 2mins while he rested on the ropes and dodge.
Dara Pot GGG WAS MISSING ALL nite . FIRST FIGTH . Canelo defenses was great . Just like mayweather did to a lot of fighters . Just Becuz you just swing and swing , don’t mean those shots are affected . in both fights Canelo walk throw GGG BIG SHOTS . Dint even move him . Canelo beat him on points in the first . SECOND FIGTH CANELO DID WHAT GGG AND HIS WHOLE MYTH WAS ABOUT , mexican style he claim he FOUGTH . Canelo came foward and he was on the back foot all fight. ALL THE TALK ABOUT MEXICAN STYLE And YOU RUN . Stop !!! You fraud ...big bad wolf gat his ass kick . Period . GGG WAS A FAKE . He beat bums and if Jacob FOUGTH him from the beginning of the fight , he beats him too . GGG a fraud . Lost to devachenko too . fighting bum , won’t he Figth charlo or Andrade . This next fight Canelo will KO him . Will beat HIs ASS BAD .
ESCOEXCLUSIVE difference between mayweather and canelo, mayweather threw back like i said. Who landed more punches a guy who threw 50 punches but landed 10 or a guy who threw 15 but land 3? A lot of boxers throw punches to set up others and canelo just pot shotted triple GGG for one min and leaned on the ropes for 2 mins. Second fight was closer but GGG still landed more shots than canelo. Compubox said GGG landed more punches in both fights so i still dont understand your point
For me the crowd was the difference in both fights, Every time canelo farted the crowd went bananas. Judges should be in an environment where they cannot hear the crowd but can head the fight (connection of punches etc).
I completely agree with Joe. First fight was triple G and second fight was def a draw, and I usually disagree with him. And the point of body's are to gas your opponent. I wouldn't score a good body punch higher than jabs. If the clean body punches don't gas out the opponent then it wasn't that good of a hit. Now I could easily see g getting tired but he tanked that shit so good , once it got to the later rounds he was still throwing and then canelo was getting tired, so second fight was easily a tie leaning toward triple G slightly
Jesus Christ! I mean, I disagree with Atlas' opinion of Mike Tyson, but I love this man's ZERO BS approach to life. Unbelievable. I would love to be coached by him if only in the psychological aspect.
GGG has the jab of a 300lb heavyweight. Those Kazakh bones are made of titanium. Every punch hurts his opponent. He never gets in the ring with any other plan than get the other guy out of there asap. Cuts the ring off and breaks you up.
Fernando Salgado true but worse case scenario it should be 1-1 and even still the second fight was very close so there’s a case ggg should’ve won since he was the champion and a close fight should go to the champion.
@Beardio dude you are so wrong 90% of the people in boxing!? Where did you come up with this stat. Most of the actual boxers who actually do this professionally think canelo won. Benard hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, mikey garcia, Andre ward, sugar Ray leonard, to name a few. I trust there judgement more then a sore loser fan..
I thought it was close , and could be scored either way , but the biggest surprise to me was Canelo looking like the more aggressive fighter , I didn’t expect ggg to be backing up
I knew from the beginning that teddy was upset with the results of the fight, he knows boxing but cause ur boxer looses also pay respect 117-112 wtf was is that come on.
Canelo is the latest young Mexican superstar of boxing - the card was a GBP card, the judges are all NSAC appointed, it was on a Mexican weekend, in Vegas, at the T-Mobile... anyone who knows boxing knows GGG was 2-3 rounds down before he stepped through the ropes.... making the winner a 37 year old Kazakh makes no sense to Boxing, the sanctioning bodies, Casino's, sponsors and everyone else that runs boxing. In the second fight Canelo boxed the way he was supposed to, and won, I dont personally think he won, but he did enough, and thats all he ever has to do. Vega's likes the cash cow.. same way it preferred Floyd before Canelo, Tyson before Floyd and Chavez Sr before Tyson, Canelo will lose when the next superstar comes through.

I actually had the exact same score as Teddy. It’s all marketing tho. GGG was at the end of his career and the boxing business wanted to continue to make money off of Canelo. It’s funny when the champion has to win by knockout to win, it used to be the other way around.
