prior to manson there was a long running cult at the ranch.manson claimed a lot of cult stuff and busciliogisi went along with it that was stuff left over in boxes from the previous owner.manson wasnt the messiah he made out! he and hubbard were cut from the same cloth manson found using cult techniques allowed him to manipulate people he wasnt bothered by the ideology.he just wanted fame and money! he thought scientology was a step too far even for him! visitors to the ranch commune prior to manson after ww2 included hubbard and gene rodenberry and most of the sci fi writers.rodenberry and hubbard were similar had the same kind of background and were often confused with each other.hubbard often got work meant for rodenberry and plagiarised the whole community.gene said in the early 50s they all hung out in communes smoking pot boozing and shmoozing hubbard was very theoretically facist as oddly were several writers who saw the future needing a firm hand to prevent dystopian decay! rodenberry was more hopeful outlining an idea he had for a earth planets federation a society where money is obsolete etc and space exploration is peaceful basically his first draft of star trek.hubbard he says stole the concept to form the basis of scientology .i could be a pope like him said gene but it was the only way he could roll stolen ideas and phony religeon .he didnt have the skill to make my ideas into a sucessful series.i mean have you read his stuff?
Haha, funny story about the 85 games unbeaten. My sister got front row tickets and got pippin mj and rodman signatures after the match in Chicago. Could have been the 87th game, anyway she posted it on to me for my birthday and I said I'd wear it once around the town and look like a right cool lad. I took it off and my mother had it in the wash before I even knew erasing all the autographs.
I know that Joe has covered Scientology before but he should really get Tony Ortega onto his podcast. Tony is a journalist who's covered Scientology for over 20 years. He's probably forgotten more about Scientology than the rest of us are ever going to learn.
@@hyrulemazta2296 Oh I'll look that one up as I haven't seen it. I've had Chris Shelton who's a former Scientologist on my humble little channel a couple of times. He's a really cool guy to speak to.
The last time the Church of Scientology took someone to court, the defendant"s testimony was so damaging to the organization and its leader that the church ended up dropping the case and paying the defendant hush money. After the video of her testimony went viral, I think the church started thinking twice about taking their enemies to court.
@@PInk77W1 ,you are right. That's what happened. They backed out after she began testifying(it may have been just a deposition, but it looked like a courtroom) and offered her a settlement. I don't blame her tho. With the money they throw around,I bet it was huge.
It started before South Park! South Park was the First Public Cartoon of what they Teach. Before that it was interviews and people asking questions that were similar to people questioning their own Religion. South Park has an Aggressive type audience too. It isn’t the usual Family Dinner and TV type crowd.
@Joe Mamania na he left because of that episode not before it, watch the DVD commentary that matt and trey did for that episode and the episode "the return of chef" they explain all of what went on with Isaac
I am a pastor, so here is the deal. The vast majority of churches have yearly budgets of around 100,000 and pastors get paid less than teachers with the same amount of training. The thing about property tax is true, and not only that but we can write off any household expenses. This is an old law to help churches have a pastor who could not pay a living salary. This law should probably be looked at again. The Televangelist are the bane of all true pastors. They are embarrassing and damaging. Most pastors look at them the way a good cop looks at a dirty cop or a teacher looks at a pedophile teacher. We cannot stand them.
That's a good example of attempting to remove the speck in another's eye and neglecting the plank in your own. Christianity is based on coercion, largely of small children. You are made to believe you are ill and the only cure is belief in invisible forces. Failure to submit results in damnation to hell. This is not something that you would find compelling in any other context. Fear makes people embrace dementia and willfully blind themselves to an obvious fraud. You are the current pusher of an old con.
There simply is no evidence for or indication of the existence of any god, much less the despicable god described in the bible. For some reason they don't mention the profound problems regarding the historical accuracy and validity of the bible in church. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pGKe6YzHiME.html
The fact that there is not a universal condemnation from every christian denomination of the christian fascist movement is really all that needs to be said. It seems appropriate that it should be the christian community to correct this error that they have enabled.
@@Addeladle-St-James In that case, the climate change movement is no different. Scare people, mostly kids, into forsaking the evil sin of emitting CO2 into the environment. Don't be fooled into thinking atheists don't have a religion.
Yes Joe - we gotta take Scientology down. Thanks for keeping the topic current on your show it’s important. I’m cheering you on. Your interview with Leah Remini was great, too.
It's simple-minded to think all religions are the same. You may not believe their "miraculous" stories, but they treat people VERY differently. Scientology is the worst because it requires you to give money to learn higher truths. In the meantime, it hides doctrines until you "pay" enough to learn them.
Obviously, different beliefs have different outcomes. But you can definitely argue that some churches have a similar game plan. It's not that they are all the same, it's that many are bad in the same way.
All religions are the same in that they get rich from the poor. Call it “pay”, “dues”, “cooperation plate”, “donation for Christ”. It’s all the same in the end lol
@@BriarHood Scientology is a cult, not a religion. The terrorism you referred to is the result of a political ideology fueled by a religion. So, yes, while Scientologists are not violent as a rule, members have died as a result of the organization's action/inaction.
I wish that were the case, but I doubt it. People still believe the Jesus bullshittin and even the Catholic Church won't topple with its known history of sex crimes. people, myself included, are largely uneducated until they become much older. In many cases a 60 year old is just as dumb as a fourteen-year-old but with worse vision. I don't think religion should be illegal, but rather mocked at every chance and let people question their belief of a boogeyman.
His son Jet got sick, Scientology says you have to believe that they will get well by themselves or their not pure, or something like that, they wouldn't take him to the hospital, Jet died! Makes me wonder what happened to his wife Kelly Preston, she died of breast cancer!!!!
@@robertcates4066 Are you serious? That is what scientology wants? People to die once they get sick? This is one inhuman highly criminal mindset holy shit how does this cult still exist
even more amazing is how desperate people are to find enlightenment and faith and pureness in religions which beg their members for money and are responsible for so much violence and death on earth.
Easy to fall into. Personality tests, scientific and modern sounding, fashionable and hip with other celebrities doing it, the internet exposes didn't exist yet. And it's hard enough for an ordinary person to get out - admitting to yourself you've been scammed, being humiliated, the fear of losing friends and family etc. Now a celebrity? When on top of all that you've been revered and your experience is as pleasant as they can make it? And you also might have skeletons in your closet?
On of those churches is at the end of my street. It’s always very suspiciously EMPTY. I’ve never seen more than one car in the parking lot, even Sundays. There’s a no trespassing sign and the parking is roped off. It’s a totally obvious scam. I have no idea how this continues. Although the lights are always on in the entire building.... no one is ever there. Creepy!
I get the criticism of corruption in churches, but the whole "tax the churches" spiel really hurts being on the other end of churches barely scraping by and still trying to do everything they can for their communities.
There should be a cap on where they (religious organizations) would get taxed. And, it’s not that hard to point at who needs to get it-just look at the televangelists with mansions or Scientology as a whole.
True - they’re usually always struggling. Another solution would be don’t let fake churches or cults be recognized by the IRS or the government as a religion. They give the real churches a bad name.
Yup, back in the day when people thought about Scientology, they thought about as some weird "self help" shit that called itself a religion. And i watched a documentary where one former member said he got hooked when some guy offered him to read some of their texts and flat out said "hey, if you try it and it works who cares if it's true?" And that is how they hook people. People who lack motivation, lack "purpose" etc suddenly gets some religion who flat out tells them to earn a shit of money and how to earn that money etc (in order to pay in to the religion aswell). Off course some people are going to get hooked by it. That's how cults works
blue diamond gem You should really do some more studying and soul-searching. Anti-vaxxers spend their lives researching and fighting for their children and loved ones. Once one finds out how corrupt “Big Pharma,” the CDC etc. truly are and research a bit about what actually goes into vaccines and why, it becomes painfully obvious that something isn’t right.
Andrew Woodson I’ve always been shocked that Kevin James hasn’t done the podcast. I’m not sure if he would because Kevin James doesn’t do a lot of long form shows
People don't contribute? Literally, a lot of churches serve the poor: clothing ministry, soup kitchens, meals throughout the week, hypothermia shelters, etc. Not talking about Scientology, but the whole thing about churches not contributing isn't true. I don't respect the folks who only give through taxes or around Christmas. Say what you want about it, but some folks are genuine in their faith and service to their community.
Some religions do but most are just full of shit and do nothing but judge their fellow human beings, and do nothing to help anyone but themselves. Like Alexandre said they fuck children and destroy their lives but because we’re brought up to believe they are all good society gives them a free pass. Some of the most evil predators ever are “good religious people”. Anyone remember Dennis Rader? If there really is a God, and I ever get to meet him I would love to punch the asshole right in the face.
TV Evangelists don't contribute would be more accurate. All these frauds need a department that can investigate all religious foundations and root out the frauds and expose them. That's best for all of us, whether you're religious or not. I mean John fucking Oliver created a church praise be, praise be
@@rob9965 I wouldn't say most but I do believe those people need to be rooted out and punished like hell hath no further whether they are Buddhist priests, Muslim mullahs, Jewish rabbis, Christian priests or any other. Also frauds should be rooted out as well
@@antonioperez6386 yeah religion is the excuse but people confuse it with cause. Greed, arrogance and hate arethe real problem. Greed, arrogance and hate cause war, cause terrorism and all the historical tragedies. Religion is just the easiest excuse to use to trick people into supporting you because most of humanity is very gullible whether we admit it or not
@@Prowsky Uh no. You and Joe Rogan both know that if he said a word about Islam there would be a huge fuss, death threats, maybe riots overseas etc. People died over some CARTOONS of Mohammed
South Park should be praised, not just for a wildly entertaining show but for bringing complete and utter ridiculousness to light. Their show on Scientology was excellent. I would put money on it that there were devout Scientologists that watched that episode and disbanded from Scientology all together. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are a couple very weird dudes. They do however have some great qualities. They bring complete bullshit to light and do not hold any punches when mocking it. They don't let huge social issues get away with anything if they can help it. They always seem to be on the right side as well. Religion in itself is the greatest practical joke that has ever existed in the Universe. It was a necessary tool to create order in some very dark times of humanity. It is definitely not needed anymore as it has just become lunacy in it's practices. Like the Great George Carlin said, worship whoever you want and your prayers will typically be answered 50/50. George said he chose to pray to Joe Pesci and his prayers were answered 50/50 most of the time.
I just want to address the early part of this video when Joe talks about taxation on religions, and uses examples of mega-churches. This is a poorly used example because it’s always applied broadly. “Joel Olsteen is mega rich from robbing people in his church, ergo tax churches.” There’s a lot more “small-time” churches, synagogues, mosques, temples or whatever you wanna call it that don’t have a bank account in the Cayman Islands. Lots of them that don’t belong to some larger catholic/Mormon mega group that pools their money. You’d end up closing a lot of doors. On top of which, and probably more importantly, once you open the door up wider between government and organized religion via taxation, you invite more influence and a stronger takeover. Because now they can have a stronger say in what you do.
I think the point of the podcast is to discuss differing ideas and opinions. Joe could ask pointed questions and Ravi or Lee could answer, instead of just bashing. It would be a good forum to have a Mormon and a Church of Scientology representative as well, though they won't as their ideas probably won't stand scrutiny.
How do they never mention that the man who created it was a pupil of Crowley. That's huge. He was inspired by Crowley, like how can you leave that fact out.
@@Robertedwinhouse38 Got in a time machine to see the birth of Christ. Turns out, he was born in a back room of the Vatican in 700 AD. Must be a bad translation of the Bible.
One of my favorite shows! Love the MMA interviews I saw here. Lots of details you never knew before. These guys kinda remind me of the real estate company Sears Holdings was before the values of malls declined. It’s a private real estate investment trust.
Leonard Cohen and friends were into it for a while. ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ has a line like ‘on the night that you planned to go clear’. I wonder if Cohen ever got to hear the Xenu story back then or if they were a bit more open with that story back then (or if LRH had even pulled that out of thin air yet back then).
At the end he said that she said "Don't start with this". But at least those religions are upfront about it. With Scientology you got to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to find out about it.
I said the same thing Julia said when I arrived at the missionary training center before my mission. I’m like, “We’re telling this the first time we meet them?!” The hard thing for Mormons is that we have all of the Book of Mormon stuff he mentioned PLUS the Catholic stuff. And that’s the Disney version. Most Mormons don’t even know the correct version. South Park was closer there too.
Yeah, they need to do better at planning out how to teach the discussions to make the process a little more uniform. Why would you go 0-800mph when you haven’t even gotten to 60 yet.
flaw: Dianetics wasn't marketed as a religion but as a "modern science of mental health". There is no religion in the book. The religion angle came many years later.
The problem people have with Scientology isn’t their beliefs - it’s their practices. Other religions in the US don’t treat ppl the way Scientology does.
I can hear him now , “joe,”joe,”joe you don’t know the history of Scientology joe , I know the history .”Well too bad Hubbard is dead , he would’ve been proud of junior .
Hunter Thompson would be the most admired guest on jre if he'd be alive. 100% sure he would be on in the first 500 episodes and again in some 1300, 1500 th episode. He was here and there really bashing Scientology in some of his public speeches. He would cover the psychedelic aspect, writer, politician, hell's angels, guns, the american dream... *edit: Wasn't his son on one episode?
He says imagine the Catholic Church not allowing people to read their texts. They literally did for hundreds of years. Only those who spoke Latin could and it was forbidden to be translated so that only the most highly educated eg the bishops could deceminate the word of God. Its all about power folks
What do you mean by pay taxes. Any employee the church has to pay income taxes. if they own their own home they have to pay property taxes on it. Churches are, as are all nonprofits, exempt from corporate taxes and property taxes. So, in case you didn't get it, these wealthy televangelists have to pay income tax on all of their income and property taxes on any homes that they own. If you insist that all churches should start paying taxes, then you should also insist that all nonprofits should start paying taxes.
Nothing on this correction of Joe's belief for 6 months. People believe what they want to believe, until when? Until they really feel the pain of the lie. Getting the approval of your audience seems to keep the pain hidden. Wanting to be special is why we left the Oneness of God. Thinking you are special is a drug. This is not a condemnation of Joe and the service he is doing. He has done much positive. It's just a correction of one idea.
Clearwater, FL is a hotbed. U can’t go downtown without waves of people in suits and dresses walking around a humongous church. Travolta comes annually
So you want all non-profit orgs to pay taxes? Good call, who needs Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Food Banks, Clothing Facilities, Homeless Shelters, etc. Let's just take your hatred of God, and make the world worse off.
those other ones you mentioned actually provide the services they are suppose to...not about hating god ts about providing the services they are suppose to.. do you have any idea the wealth the catholic church has in proportion to services they provide??
Thank goodness for the internet! It struck huge blows against Scientology. I want to see Tom Cruise defect. I know that it would be a miracle, but still, what a scene that would be!
