Ok Joe, some Guinness education is in order from an ex employee and bartender of 20 years in both Ireland and NYC. First off I actually agree that SOME of the bollocks surrounding Guinness is exactly that, bollocks. But there is definitely key differences between Guinness in Ireland and Guinness abroad. Transportation: Sure, Manchester is closer as the crow flies to Dublin than West Cork, but that’s ignoring several key facts. When kegs leave Dublin for West Cork they do so on the back of a lorry, and are at their destination (the actual pub) within hours. Kegs bound for the UK leave St. James’ Gate on a lorry which goes to a storehouse on Dublin docks, where they wait to be loaded on to a ship. Once they’re loaded and then offloaded from that ship they go to another storehouse in England, where they wait to be transported to whatever British city they’re going to. You will never drink a pint closer or as close to the date of barreling in England as you will in Ireland. It just doesn’t happen. And freshness is the number one factor when determining the quality of a pint of Guinness. Every day it’s in the barrel it’s deteriorating in terms of creaminess and general freshness of taste (lack of bitterness). Storage and service: Not only the cleanliness of the line is key when it comes to the quality of a pint, the length of the line is also extremely important. You’ll find a massive percentage of the pubs in Ireland, especially in the more rural areas, store the keg immediately under the tap. We’re talking a line of literally less than six feet. Think cask ale. This almost never happens in England (or the US) where kegs are usually stored in a keg room and beer has to travel up through the building before it comes out of the tap. This of course makes it much harder to keep the lines clean. It also means that there’s way too much of the beer sitting in the lines between pours. And that brings me to the final point. There are loads of pubs in Ireland, again especially in rural areas, where the Guinness tap is basically going from open to close, ensuring every pint that comes out is as fresh as possible. Again, definitely not the case in most English pubs. Hope this all helps :-)

Guinness is perhaps a little better in Ireland because they get through barrels quickly. In England, it may take several days before its drunk. Ps. Sloppys, Guinness is also brewed in Nigeria and bottled for export. You should try it. Its a doozy 😀

To be fair Joe, I think the biggest difference between Ireland Guinness and UK Guinness is how bar staff treat the product in Ireland. Guinness 'Quality' teams frequently visit pubs here to clean the lines and ensure the product is good. I dont think that happens anywhere else in the world. Also, generally, the barstaff in Ireland care more for it than abroad and wouldnt be let away with serving shit pints of Guinness - mainly by the old men in the pubs 🤣 I travel to Manc frequently for football and Ive only ever had one pint come close to an average Irish Guinness and that was in Mulligans in Deansgate.

On the Guinness debate it generally just about the identity of Guinness being Irish. Been a bartender for years and the truth more or less is how the keg is taken care of, the gas, how clean the line is, the set up of the tap it comes out of and if the bartender can make a Guinness. Btw you have to let the Guinness settle unless you want an angry Irishman or upset customer Also Ethan should watch Inglorious Bastard i think he'd love it

Guinness varies from pub to pub basically because it's not only to do with the pipes and equipment being clean,but the nitrogen to co2 ratio used to pour it some pubs don't use nitrogen because it's expensive or they use less nitrogen than the required amount ....that my friends is fact and you can taste the difference, without the correct amount of nitrogen it tastes too bitter and beefy like Oxo gravy,every draught can of Guinness tastes the same every time because of that widget filled with the correct amount of nitrogen 🎉

Joe Smith tries all the different ways to feel better, yet we all know his diet is still full of takeaways, coffee, and other unhealthy things. I’m not saying I don’t enjoy those things, but that is the fastest way to feeling better. Just stop eating bread and only drink water for a week and see if you feel more energised.

Listening to this podcast is no longer an option unless you skip adds. Within the first 15mins of this episode I had roughly 50 minutes of ads including hair transplant advice ( not sponsored by suns) . I've watched EVERY episode of sloppy Joe's up until this point twice or more but this is getting a little intense. The aggressive nature of RU-vid ads has made this podcast unlistenable as an audio format.

All this Guiness talk is nonsense. The facts are when you tap a keg it will start to go off like any consumable produce. If you go to crappy pub where they take 3 weeks to sell the keg you’ll have shit pint cos it’s been sitting there. If you go to an Irish pub they’ll be selling kegs every few hours. Therefor your pint is fresh. Simple

The fact that Heineken made a list of "Best Pints" actually, unfortunately, nullifies all of your lists. Sorry, mates. Just cut that whole bit out and reupload the podcast.
