I was blessed to meet Mr. Sample in the Mezzanine of the Worthington Hotel, Ft. Worth, TX. It was after The Crusaders (w/Randy Crawford, Ray Parker Jr., and "Ready" Freddie Washington) had amazed the audience at the Bass Performance Hall. I introduced myself and said, "Mr. Sample, you guy got down tonight." He kindly took a chair at our table and kicked it with us a more than an hour. He chilled with us like we were old friends. It is a night none of us will ever forget. Thank you sir!

The first time I heard this song I was totally SMITTEN by this songs magical quality. Joe Sample's music has always had a most potent influence in my song. I want to meet this pianist before I surcease. I was in my middle 20s when I first heard his most "gottlich music". Life is short but our most gracious God most needs must have touched this musical genius with an indescribable talent. I wholly revere your angelic music, JOE SAMPLE>
Joe Sample was a wonderful artist, he and his friends Wayne, Stix, and Wilton first created The Jazz Crusaders and as they say the rest is great musical history 👏🏽🙏🏾🕊️🎵🎶🎵🎶
Met Joe many years ago at the Regatta Bar in Cambridge. This video solidifies that fact that this cat can play. Bringing two friends to see him at Scullers in Boston in two weeks. They have no clue what they're in for. Sample forever!

Give Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Lyle Mays, Brad Mehldau and many more a listen and you'll realise you're scratching the surface with Joe. But when it comes to "smoothe" Jazz piano, Joe was indeed in a class of his own...
@@eshamo2006 Must admit, I'm not familiar with Brian Culbertson. But Wikipedia says he grew up on Yellowjackets amongst some other major voices on the jazz scene. Which brings me to another great keyboardist and composer, Russel Ferrante. Brian Culbertson has had zero exposure down here in deepest, darkest Africa, but I'll certainly check him out...
In NYC 1990 I purchase this Album, I fell in love with it Complete, I play it on my stereo system for my daughter born 1991 and then for my 2nd daughter born 1994, I still have this original CD, I hope when I died one of them play it for me, the entire CD, Ashes to Ashes.
