This was a special show commemorating the 20th anniversary of Surfing With The Alien. Filmed during the show at the Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco - only 40 people there.
i don't know what i'll listen to when he'll be gone. He truly inspires me in this godless world. So humble and most of the time i feel as if his guitar is telling a story to everybody.u rock joe. Forever joe.
Absolutely one of the best shows I've ever been to. Way to go KP!! Almost brings tears to my eyes to see it again. I've got that alien poster signed and a couple of signed picks framed in my office. It's a beautiful thing!! Joe is one cool cat!!!!
I should say this a song I really respect. A perfect mix of harmony, melody, odding and playing. This is that one song that I would be able to play in an air guitar in any time. _And this is the report of a drummer.
So many memories from my days as a beginning guitar player. Others that rocked were Eric Johnson, Scott Henderson, John Lukather, Mike Landau, Brett Garsed, Frank Gambale, Al DiMeola!!
nice surfing top hes wearing too... wish I had been there, I saw him in Manchester a few months ago... first time seeing him live ! certainly wont be the last !!
@budsyremo his rig allows him to pull feedback with just holding one note. ive noticed him do it alot mostly on G string since its quickest way for feedback. same thing if u held your guitar up to your amp for 5 secs or so. But with his tone it's more celestial soothing then over the top feedback..... theres a fine fine line thats for sure
I wonder how the Beatles (memory fails me but I think it was Paul McCartney) managed to get feedback in the studio. "First guitar feedback ever recorded on studio" if I recall correctly. 1964 I believe. Recalling most of it from memory from stuff I've been reading recently
learning more about the Beatles from youtube comments than any book, magazine or documentary could EVER compile in a collection... some of these comments are pure gold
he can do all this with just an acoustic guitar. He is a model I always keep in mind when I see giutarists with huge rigs.. (me as well.. :) I've seen him the 27/07/2011 at the "hard rock cafè" in Venice and he really can do that beautifull stuff with just an amplifyer. Unbeliveable how cool guy he is. I've seen tons of live performances and Joe have the gift to make very technic stuff seem easy (while when you try.. actually it is not..)
@BaneOfXistence4 hes got a new one he used for the jimi tour that he had a prototype for awhile. also Ice9 pedal hes had since dec when working with vox. i bet hes got a ton of prototypes not purchasable by the public... Yet
@Aldryami yea satch taught vai when they were teenagers, satch 15 and vai 13 i believe, vai knocked on satches door with a pack of strings and a guitar and asked for help.
Why do we have to be better or worse than someone else? Can't we each be valued for what we contribute by just being and sharing our gifts? I know that sounds really preachy in type, but I genuinely feel so. I think Lady Gaga is great for what she does and Satch is awesome for what he does. Can't we all just get along? :) Have a good one everyone!
bassline makes this song............ well obviously the ridiculouly amazin guitar playing plays a large factor........ but that bass line sets up that beautiful feel.
great performance.. although Satch isn't my favorite guitarist...I have to admit, when he's in the zone he's hard to top. I wish he would do more songs like this ... introspective and soulfull ... much better than Satch Boogie or Summer Song, for example.
@igknightus Because, mainly due to marketing, most people cannot differentiate between music and entertainment. In the 'modern' world music doesn't have any great inherent value to corporations unless there is an entertainment angle to help 'push' it. Thankfully, we now have the internet so £$&* corporate music and the people that never grow out of it. Leave 'em to it, you couldn't convince them that JS Bach was a musical genius compared to Lady GaGa let alone Joe Satriani. * Deep breath *
@igknightus Lady gaga is Industrially created music for the "Sheep" of the world... its sad because i have yet to find some one as passionate about every aspect of the music they listen to because its all crap... this will hold up with its fans for years and years.. were gaga will make a "New" song in a few months and it will sound like shit... again lol
