Great ballad. I love the arrangement. Seems like Joe is not trying to impress anyone with crazy techniques and speed. Just pure music from the heart which is more impressive.
@@alephii It's got a slow BPM but that's the point Joe is telling a little story how is that not interesting or cool? Broaden your horizons my friend!! Much love.
I truly believe that the most inspiring moment in my life was receiving surfing with the alien on my 10th birthday. My dad could've got me Smash Mouth or Green Day or Nirvana, but he gave me the Satchman. It has made all the difference in my life.
And the way he plays with the rhythm of the notes creating this pushing and pulling effect with the main beat. He can play fast alright, but the attention he puts into each and every single note is what separates him from the other shredders.
Unfortunately Joe's only the greatest guitarist that ever lived. Now if he had a great set of tits to go along with his playing.... well...50 grammy's.... 1 trillion views...
The Grammys are for plastic people. Having generations of people study your playing is not something the Grammy winning people can say about themselves
@@DavidDevero Well said. I have always thought Satriani was super hard to copy on his more laid back writing. He has so many small nuances. You always recognize him.
@@EvilVulthoomthank you for your kind words, and I agree on all counts. That nuanced approach to playing guitar, people who really "feel the music" pick up on those subtleties I think. I know Joe does when he listens to others, and then of course that "feeling the music" shows up in his playing all the time. That is how we use the instrument to "speak". At least that's how I try to do it anyway. The artist Imogen Heap was singing in a band called Frou Frou, in a song called The Dumbing Down of Love, and she applied this lyric saying that "music is worthless unless it can make a complete stranger break down and cry". And I don't think she means crying just out of a place of pain. Joe's music often has such deep joy in it. Brother is playing through tears of joy too. I wish sometimes I could just sit down with Joe and Steve and just communicate openly, like when they were still teenagers developing their friendship and musical language.. And now all I can think of is Language by The Contortionist hahaha!
This one and "Teardrops" make me cry each time I listen to them. Two absolutely beautiful and amazing songs! Thank you for all your amazing music Mr. Satriani!
There are no memories of my life that are more clear than looking up at my parents 1974 Scott Speakers, with a first generation CD player in an old Pioneer SX receiver spinning “Always With Me.” I’d learned some AC/DC songs, but in that moment, I experienced a determination and a confidence I’ve not experienced since. “I WILL play this!” Said the 15 year old kid who had yet to find his thing. And I did, measure by measure, after getting my hands more nimble with “Midnight.” I say all that to say, this record is one of your greatest achievements. I’ve watched the interviews and that high bar you set for yourself and the band-it’s just a total success. I implore everyone who may not feel this to listen to this record a good 8-10 times before you make up your mind about it. I think it wasn’t until the 7th listen of Faceless when I recognized its utter beauty and emotion. I had a similar thing happen with OK Computer by Radiohead. The Bends is what got me out of “shredding” and into serving the song, and it took 5 listens to “get” OK Computer. There’s something about our brains where sometimes you have to learn all the notes before you can really feel the music. Amazing job and a big tip of the hat to everyone involved, and thanks to Ear Music for giving what I assume is a really good and fair record deal to my favorite guitar player on earth. Sammy is right, there is no better guitar singer out there! Much love, Joe and co, and great job ZZ on the trippiest video in recent memory for the title track!
The emotion of this song lies in its shifting, "sloppy" melody rhythm. Listen to it and imagine someone barely able to walk up a long steep road that seems to go on forever. I did and it brought me tears. Thanks for all the amazing music Satch! You've been the soundtrack to much of many of our lives!
I tottaly agree with you.. that sloppy rythm is insane. I tried to play it i get in "normal" timing..its milliseconds off on some notes. Truly incredible
Once again - Simply Blown Away. I am 53 and started listening to Satch when I was 16 - WOW, was that 37 Y E A R S ago ? Thank YOU JS - You have brought me to tears more than I would like to admit - but it is You, so I am not ashamed, I am BLOWN AWAY. I look forward to seeing you Live in April in the FORT. Thank You kind Sir for being such an amazing inspiration for so many who need what it is that you most certainly have blessed us with. GodSpeed Good Sir !
I was cooking dinner downstairs the other day and I heard the most beautiful song coming from my son's bedroom. My son was upstairs playing his guitar and I ran up there and said "what in the world is this? So beautiful!" I am very impressed.
Agree, amazing crescendo, almost like a Gospel tune there, it’s like we are faceless and helpless creatures facing the pain and the death, but then there is this powerful spark of Gods love and hope from above that can change everything, if we trust.
Faceless people are unrecognisable. Spirituality makes us all faceless, in good ways and helps us to be seen as divine in small senses because spirituality is faceless in personal and spiritual nature. The face we carry is the face of love and respect to all.
For me the best song from Joe. I have goose bumps anytime I hear this song, even after 20 times it's the same. There is all what I like. The middle part is just fantastic.
My personal requirements for JS is that one, he puts out an album every two years and second, he live longer than me so that I can hear all the albums he puts out every two years.
I know there is hope as long as there is still music that gives me goosebumps and shivers down my spine. This song did just this. No showing of,pure emotion. Thx Joe, you are a God.
