That guitar tone is absolutely out of this world. The chrome created an unusual overtone which is unique and beautiful. To me, this is when he was at his best. Incredible performance.
I am going on 55 years old, and have been at over 120 rock concerts!! I have been listening to this greatness since the early 80's, and to this day, will say, that Joe Satriani is the greatest of All Time!!! G.O.A.T.!!!
The album cover what chat my I surging with the aliens Joe liked like the silver surfer on cover the days artd s got oayed for covers it was eye catching iron maadiens Eddie I was sold
Had hair when I saw Joe, Stu Hamm, and Jonathan Mover at Tommys in DeepEllum(Dallas) when "Surfing with the Alien "came out.... many years ago. Besides Stevie Ray and Jeff beck together, Surfing w Alien was the best show Ive ever seen. It was a perfect small venue. Deep Ellum used to be da shiot
I saw him play at Andrews Amphitheater at University of Hawaii in the 80s with Stu Hamm. Unbelievable concert. One of the best concerts I've ever been to hands down. It's an outside venue, but the sound was incredible. Aloha!
There's something about his chrome guitar that creates a unique tone. I can immediately tell it's him playing with that guitar. The resonance is fantastic. What a performance.
Discovered JS with this song in 89..i guess🤔.. While learning to fly a hangglider during the uni years where there were great expectations at the beginning of a big life ahead.. Life be in it.. Still pounding the old heart tough
I’m not saying he is not good… but…. Off the top of my head I could name atleast 5 guitarists he couldn’t be on the same stage as…. But it’s all subjective!!!…. Like I say I’m not saying he isn’t good… hence why I’m watchin this to include it in my repertoire on guitar as I can’t read music!!!
I had video I shot on stage of Ninja playing with a guy named Robert Seidler (aka Cole Panther) back in about ‘85 or so. Was so excited when he got the Satch gig. He’s THE MAN.
Here are some possible lyrics for the Joe Satriani song "Flying in a Blue Dream": **Verse 1** I'm flying in a blue dream Above the clouds, so far from here I can see the world below And all its troubles, they just melt away **Chorus** I'm flying in a blue dream And I don't want to wake up I'm flying in a blue dream And I'm never coming down **Verse 2** I'm free from all my worries I'm free from all my pain I'm flying in a blue dream And I don't want to go back **Chorus** I'm flying in a blue dream And I don't want to wake up I'm flying in a blue dream And I'm never coming down **Bridge** I'm soaring through the sky I'm flying like a bird I'm free as the wind And I'm never going back **Chorus** I'm flying in a blue dream And I don't want to wake up I'm flying in a blue dream And I'm never coming down **Outro** I'm flying in a blue dream And I'm never coming down
At 13 he inspired me to play guitar! I love all his tracks! Every song he releases is mind blowing. And its amazing that songs like Midnight that were put out decades ago still stand as amazing songs!
I too was mesmerized by this song. I struggle to find an answer....then I read Satch talk about "Modes". The Lydian mode (raised 4th) is the foundation of many film scores....thats' why you cry when you hear it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydian_mode
Good stuff, Ben! I'm surprised you didn't mention Vai at all in this video. I thought for sure you were about to play the intro to Shy Boy around the 2:34 mark.
