Why Guitar "Villains", you ask? Because villains are cooler than heroes, it's just a fact. Today’s Guitar Villain is Joe Satriani. Known in his truest form as a literal alien, Satriani’s music can certainly transport you to various places in the universe, and after paving the way for so many guitar players after him, Satch is still the master of the six-string sonic highway we’re all driving down. With dozens of Grammy nominations and what seems like an endless catalogue of music, Joe is constantly innovating and always inspiring in the realm of guitar, and if you know me, you know how pumped I am for this episode of Guitar Villains. Check out Joe's latest album, Shapeshifting, streaming everywhere now: bit.ly/JS_GuitarVillains

Tyler, I have really grown to enjoy your channel. I'm posting this from my MTB channel, but I am indeed a 30 year guitar veteran (albeit I'm a GIT guy. Too cold in Boston for me to do more than one semester at Berklee!). Like many of us, Joe has been my #1 influence from the beginning and I had the pinnacle of fortune to be able to have studied with him briefly. This video really captures a side of Joe the world doesn't get to see often. Thanks for this one :)

Cool interview man. JS seems like a really cool, down to earth guy. This is the guy who originally inspired me and gazillions of others to play guitar. I like what he says about slowing down to say something, seems kinda ironic coming from someone who is a master of shred, but it's very true.

Tyler!!! I absolutely loved this vid. Getting guitar-god Joe Satrianti onto Guitar Villains is a joyous accomplishment. His fascinating and fluid frame-of-mind for the "goals" of interesting music is very interesting. His final wisdom about making music "significant" is deeply rewarding. Joe clearly had a great time on this episode... In the future, he could be a reference for future guests on Guitar Villains. He is friends with music theory "professor" Rick Beato (who himself has numerous guitar friends like Rhett Shult, and Paul Davids, who is friends with Guitar Samurai, etc., etc., etc...). Joe taught "noodling-addict" Steve Vai, who is friends with "guitar transcendent" Yngwie Malmsteen. How cool would it be to get those guys on Guitar Villains???? ... A professional interviewer had said he researches to find the "nugget of glee" in his guest, which would invigorate that guest to take over the interview. Then the interview would accelerate and get deep and fascinating and rewarding. You were great: entirely clear, lucid, and quirky.

My 3rd time I got to see Joe play live, it was the happiest day of my life. My younger sister had bought me a ticket for the G3 Show in Boston, on February 15th, 2018. It was my Christmas present from her. So thoughtful because she knows how much I love Joe Satriani's music. I got there safely from my dwelling in NH, and right before the show started, whilst puffing my cigarette furiously (as to not be late), I struck up a conversation with an older couple. Just random small talk..... During the intermission before Joe was about to start, (amazing job John, so cool that your kid+woman were in the crowd!! Phil...., :) ) I went out to smoke. I came across the couple I had made small chat with earlier, and the lovely lady asked me how I was enjoying the show. I said it's amazing except the security asked me to go back to my seat, because I got too close to the railing on the balcony, (which wasnt sold out, this is in the Orpheum Theatre btw, Boston). The ticket my sister had bought for me was the last row of the balcony. All good, Joe Satriani would be like, 200 feet away! Sweet! So this woman, who I had only talked to for all of several minutes, said something I will NEVER forget : "How would you like to be in the front row?" WHAT?! It turns out, her husband recently had double hip replacement surgery, and could not stand for too long. Well if you were there for the show, you remember that everyone was standing up. So they had to relocate them (her husband was there to see Frank Zappa's drummer) This woman then gifted me not one, but BOTH (thats 2) 3rd row tickets..! So, overly extatic and feeling amazing, I headed inside. Intermission is almost done and Joe is up next. I am so giddy!! I show the security guard my 2 tickets and she leads me towards my new seats....incomprehensible But it gets better. Because I had 2 seats all to myself and Joe is like, 10 feet away, I stuck out in the crowd! And I swear, after every song he finished, he threw his pick straight AT ME! I only managed to catch two picks. It's been a little while since that concert, but I still have one pick. I gave the other one away to a random store clerk whose eyes lit up when I told him this story. heh. So there it is, the story of the happiest day of my life, and how it came to be. Tyler, keep up the good work!! I feel like we are life-long friends whenever I watch your videos... maybe one day we will get to jam (I play a little :)) Joe, I really hope you read this : Your music and your presence, your picks that you toss out to the crowd...it changes people's lives. You give joy and hope to so many... all over the entire planet. Bless you. If you're ever in the Manchester, NH area, stop by 900 Degrees Nepolitan Pizzeria. I will put my heart and soul into making you the best pizza I ever have, because you deserve it! Thank you for reading... -Zivko Mihajlica

Very cool interview, man. Really well done. I love Joe's final answer about the tools in the toolbox and musician's job to evoke emotions.
