I think the thing that sets Joe apart from all other instrumental only guitar players is that HE JUST FLAT OUT WRITES GOOD TUNES !! This being no exception.

Nintariz I say the same thing about Jimi Hendrix. I think he’s been surpassed, but he was the first. For that matter, Joe Satriani quit football and dedicated his life to the guitar when he heard that Hendrix died.

I appreciate steve vais skill and speed and everything he does is amazing technically speaking but joe for me is number 1, his music is so much better on the ear than steves is, even tho vai is a techical genius, like his teacher joe, joes musical knowledge is far greater than steves in my opinion and u can tell through his music he is the king of melody no doubt about that and my number 1 guitarist of all time

Absolutely..many guys out there can play fast and are technically brilliant, but few can actually compose a beautiful sounding song on a guitar from start to finish as well!

To all the peeps dissing the audience - you do realize that to really really appreciate a song you need to LISTEN to it, that's why they aren't screaming and shouting appreciation DURING the song. They have the maturity to sit back and enjoy it unlike many of you posting here. The applause at the end IS enthusiastic. Oh yeah I'm over 40 and grew up with some of the greatest rock music ever to be created.

To see that song performed live with all the nuances and phrasing is awesome. His efficiency on the neck is unparalleled. Taking nothing away from shredders, his flurry of notes is like an intricate carving versus a whittled stick.

The thing that I like about Joe Satriani is that his music with a lot of practice is obtainable to all guitarists of higher intermediate level . You don’t need ridiculous technique it’s about melody over technique first. And so much fun to learn and play and learn from what he’s doing to incorporate into your own music

People don`t like to admit it, but you have a perfectly good point. And I`ve spent my whole life playing the guitar, and make my living from it. Itt's not coincidence that the only people who buy his records play guitar, and his crowd at gigs is 99.9% guys, and everyone`s a guitarist there too. I'm a huge Malmsteen fan...but he's much in the same category. Less cheesy though.

It appears to me that the crowd is just older and appreciative, not boring. They are old enough to know yelling and screaming will block out the sound from the band, and they aren't there to be 'cool' they are there to hear music. When you young people freak out at a show, its to let everyone around you know that your there, its a basic animal reaction to a heard. Its not necessary to 'prove' how much you 'rock' over 30, your allowed to just enjoy it.

+Billbill80s This is not a concert, it's technical demonstration. People in that room are there to gain insight from the most technically proficient guitarist in the world and that demands a certain amount of formal behavior.
@Billbill80s
@Billbill80s 8 лет назад
Worm I'll skip your opinion of the guitarist. My point stands, a drunken EVH at Nam 2007 received countless claps and cheers. And he is most definitely in front of the Satchurator on the influencial guitarist list whether you enjoy three note tapping or not.
@yes100yessireebob6
@yes100yessireebob6 7 лет назад
Billbill80s EVH at NAM 2007, is far from the Sweetwater theatre, and Eddie, does not have anything CLOSE to Joe Satriani's technical ability, or Joe's mastery of the pitch axis theory, which is on full display in this song. I like EVH, he is truly one of the greats, but Joe Satriani is another level, with the ability to compose an instrumental guitar song, name the song, and evoke the feeling of the Songs name.

@schism206

I'm that not big on most of the music of the virtuoso guitar guys like Satch, Vai, Gilbert etc., just personal preference. But that aside, I have much respect for them, and Satch undeniably awesome, and this is probably my favorite track of his. He's got so much control over everything, clarity in tone and his bends are great, and he nails this song in every performance I've seen online. In my opinion its much harder to put bends in solos like these than just play a bunch of single 16th note, fast picking scales all over the place, and sounds 1000% better too.
@schism206
@schism206 8 лет назад
I agree, I'm definitely more of a "song" guy myself, but over the years I've grown to appreciate some of the virtuoso's work a bit more than I used to.

+JB P Are you kidding me?! You obviously need to check out Vai's "Passion and Warfare " and Satriani's "Surfing With The Alien" and then tell me they're not good songwriters.. I'll wait lol
@yes100yessireebob6
@yes100yessireebob6 7 лет назад
JB P Exactly, Surfng with the Alien evoked a sense of video games, or comic book heroes, EXACTLY what the song was intended to do. Joe did it with instruments. Songs with singers, and bands, express vocally, what the song is about, and how you should feel. Instrumental music doesn't tell you how to feel, it draws the feelings out of your soul.
