Joe Satriani talks about his live rig 

Very awesome, especially to hear Joe talk about his rig and he's still searching for that sound he desires. I've met him before and he doesn't disappoint as far as how genuine of a person he is, down to earth and easily approachable...Great interview...

i'd definitely tell the story of Joe Satriani to my kid one day..to constant feed him influence..Joe is phenomenal

Both Joe Satriani and Danny Gill have had a huge influence on me musically the last couple of years. Joe for inspiring me with his wonderful music, obviously, and Danny for teaching me how to play like Joe via the LickLibrary DVDs. Keep it up guys. You rock!

I have this Amp Joe and it's Incredible

I love the part, too, when he talks about the DS-1. That is the exact way I use it as he explains it - in terms of amp volume levels, I use a little bit different settings as he did though.

@gunsproof He changed back to Marshalls during his stunt with Chickenfoot. In fact, he said in an interview that he was disappointed by the lack of reactiveness and commitment from Peavey in the development of his signature line.

Wasn't Gill a student of Satriani's? .. Gill sounds delighted to be talking to him about his gear...they're both great players and seem cool together.

@MattChalkGuitar I agree, I don't even need a distorsion pedal since i've had my Mark-3, nothing sounds like it.I tried a mark-5 combo last weekend it is sick!!! No Mods needed here...........Although I love Satch and his sound don't get me wrong iam a huge fan..

The JVMs distorion on the red setting of the 3rd channel OD 2 is Great it sounds better than a satchurator played on the clean channel in my opinion, and thats on the stock JVM. Those Ice 9 and Satcurator pedals are very good and sound great though. The JVM OD2 channel though is noisy so I can see why he put a noise gate put in. Never tried his JSX so can't comment, not sure if he just used the Satchurator on the clean channel of the Peavey or used the amps distortion??

looks like satch is trying to make a jsx of the jvm; what's the point on that :S? going from having a signature model to just a regular noise amp... jsx was a great amp

@MattChalkGuitar Well I imagine that if you were developing an amp based on another platform (Triple Rectifier), then they would play around with swapping components and values and such.

@TerrorNoctus oh right, i didnt know this haha...... i read this on mesa's site "Our Artists also don’t use specially chosen or modified amplifiers or cabinets, they play the exact same models available to you. So when you see someone playing a Mesa product you know everything is "for real" still there ya go.... ive always prefered Mesa's or Engls to marshalls anyyy day!! though satch's tone is awesome, and satch is a killer player!

@PrettyRecords ahh thats why mesa ask you to ring the dealer for whichever country you are from.. :) ive never really been a marshall fan.... always found the sound too harsh and kinda cheap sounding (epesically on the non valve stuff) id love something liek a plexi but cant say im a fan of anything else theve made.... i love joes sound though awesome tone..... even it is all overdrive pedals and running through an amp that you cant buy! haha

@pmacFTO Ive thought about that too. Maybe since so many musicians mod their equipment, its better to help the famous ones than to not. Also a PR person could always say, its personalization, not improvement. Haha anyway thats me guessing.

So Satch's JVM's are modded? Any chance that his mods will be part of an update for the JVM-series? Or will there be a Satriani signature model?

@Robertpaulgood I have a 5150 block letter...the crunch and lead sound great. But it has way too much gain! It is very hard to get a clean sound out of it. I looked at the JSX peavey, but I am not impressed. I think I might just spend the extra money for a marshall.

Wow Goodbye Peavey amps??? I owned his JSX amp head, for 120 watts it was the WEAKEST amp in terms of volume. I had it checked out by a tech, and it WAS cranking 120 watts. Gigging it I had it on 8 and I could BARELY hear it on stage..

Mesa modified a couple Stilettos to take 6L6 power tubes for Kirk Hammett....they won't do that for someone off the street
